Immanue1
Ridgeline, I apologize if I seemed rude in my last post. I was kind of stressed that day and I guess it shown through. I cannot thank you enough for your support. I unplugged myself for a couple of days and I am ready to give this another shot. Again, please pardon me and my poor attitude. You're a HUGE contributor and, once again, thanks. The only reason I quit was because I thought I was burdening you.

ridgeline
Thanks ridgeline. I have a Gainward geforce 210. I did already install 1.4 and it works with the GPU but not like the very perfect first time, this one does not wake up after stand by, it did not boot automatic with your boot in install 2.3. i did update my bios to F8 but i thought, it is not the reason because i did downgrade my bios to F6 again. I try 2 or 3 times, but it was not like the first time. Really don't understand why it did not work. and now the sound dose not work too. my God Here again my system: e5300 geforce 210 512 MB Hdd sata samsung DVD sata LG Help me please, i will try again today. ps: should i do something with the bios? Okay well for starters I would only recommend you use the 2.3v installer and install the nvenabler.kext from kexts.com and then use the applehda10.6.2 from the downloads page at my site ridgel1ne.com after this repairpermissions and restart. repairpermissions through disk utility. set system preferences under energy settings to restart after power failure. iRobie
What firewire card are you using? I'm using this card. I had a PCI version prior to this, but my graphics card was too big so I had to go with PCI-E. Since the PCIE x1 slot sits above the graphics card this one fits perfectly. And as you can see in the comments there, it's flawless on OSX. Ridgline-- I modified the front post to point to your website. I've been gone for quite some time, missed a lot in the Mac world! I updated to 10.6.4 via Software Update, no problems. It killed sound again, but going back to 10.6.2 AppleHDA fixed that. I am having a problem with popping sound that I'm currently hunting down, but I think it may be unrelated because I had it on 10.6.3 as well. Long story short: I fried my G41M by using too much power on a cheap, generic PSU. Woops! So I went through two different boards to see if I could have a stable Mac up and running. RMA finally came through so I'm back on G41M. Popping sound didn't go away, so I'm trying a clean install now. Time Machine worked extremely well Always good to test a backup! Gatzs
Hi Ridgeline, first, I congratulate and thank you for the good work you did on this motherboard. I did a fresh and easy install using an 8 GB flash drive + myHack (because is faster than DVD and i can boot from usb until 10.6.3) in this order: 1) I've updated the BIOS to F8 2) installing SL 10.6 via USB. Then i tried ComboUpdate 10.6.4 without success. 3) ComboUpdate 10.6.2 -> OK 4) Gigabyte G41M-ES2L Post Installer v2.3 -> OK 5) ComboUpdate 10.6.4 -> OK 6) Software Update -> OK 7) 10.6.2-AppleHDAInstaller.pkg -> Audio fixed. OK > With GraphicsEnabler by default my VGA is recognized correctly as GeForce 9400 GT (0x064110de) but it not work properly. Apparently VGA is accelerated but i can't see QE/CI Supported in System Information and occasionally crashes. > Removing GraphicsEnabler and copy NVENABLER64 in /Extra/Extensions + Kexts Utility to repair permissions: my VGA isn't recognized (Unknow nVidia Card), Apparently VGA is accelerated but i can't see QE/CI Supported in System Information and occasionally crashes. > Then i tried an EFI String removing NVENABLER64 and GraphicsEnabler: apparently VGA is accelerated and don't crash but i can't see QE/CI Supported in System Information. So i found some ways you can check to see if your card is fully accelerated. Open Front Row. If it opens and is functional, QE/CI are enabled. Open Dashboard and add a widget. If you see cool ripples, QE/CI are enabled. Open Chess and play. If you can make more of a move, QE/CI are enabled. It's right? Your Gigabyte's Theme is cool but how i can start -x -v -f ? iRobie
Hi Ridgeline, Could you make another DSDT? This is a QX6700. I'm using an 11x multiplier, since this CPU is unlocked. I don't understand why it's not working, here's the DSDT I used: Processor (CPU0, 0x00, 0x00000410, 0x06) { Method (_PSS, 0, NotSerialized) { Return (Package (0x06) { Package (0x06) { Zero, Zero, 0x10, 0x10, 0x0B2A, Zero }, Package (0x06) { Zero, Zero, 0x10, 0x10, 0x0A27, One }, Package (0x06) { Zero, Zero, 0x10, 0x10, 0x0924, 0x02 }, Package (0x06) { Zero, Zero, 0x10, 0x10, 0x0821, 0x03 }, Package (0x06) { Zero, Zero, 0x10, 0x10, 0x071E, 0x04 }, Package (0x06) { Zero, Zero, 0x10, 0x10, 0x061B, 0x05 } }) } I tried compiling with DSDTSE & iASLMe. When I say it doesn't work, it means I have a 'popping' sound when playing music or movies. When the DSDT it correct, I don't have that sound. Right now voodoopstate & a hidden/dockless PStateChanger is getting me everything I need, but it's the principle of the thing! I guess you have the magic touch QX6700, 11x: And if you wanted to compile more DSDTs: QX6700, 10x multiplier: QX6700, 12x multiplier:
Gatzs
Thanks ridgeline. I have a Gainward geforce 210. My experience with a Sparkle GeForce GT210. > with GraphicsEnabler (recognized) or NVenabler64 (Unknow nVidia Card) DVI does not work, even with the DVI>VGA adapter. > VGA port always work. > I tried HDMI port with HDMI>DVI cable and it work. unix_fan
I will be adding the nvenabler to the next installer and I will pst it on the downloads section of my site soon. Ridegline, let me add to the chorus of kudos for the help and the installer. In return, I'm happy to test etc., as needed on NVEenabler. I'm also getting this message at boot: 6/18/10 9:57:46 PM kernel ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::registerLPCDriver - WARNING - LPC device initialization failed: C-state power management not initialized FWIW, my DSDT is identical (except for comments) to the E8400 one you have posted for download on your site. I have a Quadro 540FX and it blue screens (screen turns blue before login screen and stays frozen there) when I run 64 bit mode. So I'm stuck in 32 bit mode. I'd like to get back to 64 bit, since my perf measures during Leopard days in 64 bit were much better in 64 bit. If NVEnabler is the path, I need to check it and see. Also, don't know if you are aware of the work being done by the guy who maintains kakewalk http://puru.se/ I did a test install with kakewalk, it's very similar to yours but support for more boards than just the G41M-ES2L. It would be cool if you guys made contact and combined forces. Kakewalk gave me working audio but only out of the rear Jack. I have another rig to construct for my son this summer, for a Final Cut video editing rig. I briefly thought about a 55 series Gigabyte board but I'll stick with the G41M for now. I think the GT210 or GT240 is the way to go for his video card. E8400 w/Zalman Cooler G41M-ES2L Quadro FX 540 4GB RAM, 2x500GB disk
3th3r
Okay first off I am glad this is working for you and yes your asus drive will break sleep unless you use a program called PleaseSleep but until you get a correct dsdt that won't work either I believe it is post its either 240 or 340 of this thread and follow my steps and I will make you a working dsdt. You should not have installed the voodoohda but rather the legacyhda, That is only there as an after thought for troubleshooting and you should not need nvenabler. Probably what I would recommend you do is go to my site after and download the v2.3 installer and get me your dsdt info as mentioned if you truly want it to work like a mac pro. you will not have speed-step with your current setup and this can cause higher temps and result in problems. Once you get the new installer do a fresh install run the v2.3 installer and select the generic dsdt for the time being until I can get you a correct dsdt. I have tried to make this simple and almost fool proof on the installer so let me know if I can help Quick note I got an email from NewEgg.com this morning the Sony Optiarc I just bought is now on sale for $19.99 with free shipping. so if you need a better functioning dvd drive this one works flawlessly I got mine yesterday in the mail and I am very happy with my purchase. Also iRobie, can we update the first page here to point to the new installer? I first upgraded to 10.6.4, then I removed the 1.4 Installer files, including the VoodooHDA kext, and then I installed the new 2.3 Installer with the E5200 dsdt file (for my CPU), and finally I installed the AppleHDA 10.6.2. Oh, I also replaced the Asus DVD drive with the Optiarc. AND EVERYTHING WORKS!!! :D :D I just sent you a small donation to thank you for sharing your knowledge and for all the work you've put into these files. I think it would be much harder to write a guide that would work as easily across a range of different motherboards. I am grateful that Ridgeline has put in the time to figure out how to make SL run so well on our MB. It looks like ideally, each MB needs a DSDT that is specific to each CPU that can be used with it. Because Ridgeline has done this for us, we can all have fully operational hacs with nvidia 8400 or 9500 graphics cards and a Sony Optiarc or Lite-On DVD drive. If you have a different graphic card or DVD, it will take a little more work but it can be done. I appreciate Ridgeline's focus on making his installer work better and better for our motherboard, instead of trying to make the installer work as well for other motherboards. h50

That's what Kakewalk already is. This community is focused - rightfully so - on the G41M-ES2L board. My viewpoint is that perhaps there is something in the kakewalk installer that we would benefit from. 2ndly, the kakewalk installer might benefit within its G41M-ES2L component from our input. I personally helped with the original issue of the ALC888B sound. I'm willing to have that side conversation with the kakewalk developer because his solution is different from ours (and I'm not convinced it's better). I like multiple approaches when they are reasonably as good but I think the community benefits when superior methods (superior = heavy emphasis on simpler) rise to the top (i.e., more commonplace use). We've seen that here with the evolution of the guide from the original iRobie version, to the skinh33t base, to the current approach. One thing I've seen on these boards is that people ask the same things over and over. Sometimes they ask questions where you wonder why they can't read the previous post! I want to do my bit to make the installer as simple and cookie cutter as possible. So again, I'm not at all advocating that we look at making it a multiboard installer. Distilled to its essence, I'm simply saying that there is another person (the kakewalk developer) working successfully within the bowels of DSDT files for G41M boards, and we might get some synergy out of that contact. Couldn't agree with this point more. Making the process simple and cookie cutter is a good goal. I think the most frustrating thing for me was tracking down why the computer wouldn't sleep on its own. Turned out to be a combination of the DSDT for my CPU and the right DVD. The second most frustrating was the finicky graphics drivers. It matters which port you use on the graphics card, and whether the card was installed when you ran Ridgeline's installer. When I was building my first hacintosh, I didn't want to spend much money because I wasn't sure it would work. Now that I know it works so well, I should have spent more money and bought better components instead of trying to make it work with spare parts scrounged from old computers. In hindsight, spending $40 on the right parts would have saved me days of frustration. Ridgeline has gone a long way to making this MB work with lots of CPUs. We now know a couple of models of DVDs that work. And, we know a couple of graphics cards that work. I think we can all help to make the process simpler for others if we report back which other graphics cards and DVDs work with Ridgeline's current installer without any additional work. Ridgeline, would you be willing to add this kind of information to your website? With the right hardware, your current installer is about as simple and cookie cutter as it gets. h50

ridgeline
There is a link in my signature and just to make a point I am all about contribution and working together, for the common goal to get our boards as simple and vanilla as possible, I looked into the kakewalk deal and never could get that process to work which is why I started with my own installer and things that worked for me I am no stranger to hacintosh and have been a member here for a long time. if any one wants we can even start an irc channel easy enough. I have done pin configs written drivers and am still learning daily about dsdt. I have to give credit to MM67 and Master Chief as there understanding is far superior to mine. At this point with my installer other than adding certain things upon request and waiting to get a few more dsdt files done before I start on that whole process again I say if its not broken don't fix it. I have added a DSDT page to the site, so as I go if yours was not in the installer you can check there if not then email or message me. I have to do 2-3 dsdt's tonight and will upload those soon. Quick note it seems a lot of GTX210 users need nvenabler is anyone else using this? H50 could not agree more when I have time I will compile a hardware list and post it to the site. I am tryig to collect some cash to start another build with a different gigabyte board just to expand I may look at making something resembling a hac-mini not sure but as I go I will continue to work on this board as it was the easiest of all the others I have messed with to get up and running now just to get audio to break at every system update. Please anyone that would like to contact me feel free. unix fan if your audio is still not working contact me . actually if you did the kakewalk deal I would love to get a view at your dsdt file and the extras folder content To everyone else I am sorry I have been away just real busy with work. UnaClocker
On Ridgeline's DSDT page.. You have an E6300 DSDT.. Is that a Conroe 6300 or a Wolfdale 6300? Does it really matter? I have a Conroe 6400 overclocked, I guess the 6300 is close enough, unless it's a Wolfdale one.. But does it really matter? In the guide in the first post.. It says to download the 10.6.2 AppleHDA, and then go to the system pref panel and change things.. Should that AppleHDA get installed between those two steps? Where? edit, strike that.. I see it's a convenient self installing package on your site. Thanks.

UnaClocker
Ok, I experienced an epic fail.. No matter what I do with Ridgeline's app, it fails the install. I updated to 10.6.4 and couldn't boot at all anymore, kernel panic. I took the MyHack USB boot disk and booted into the installer, ran Terminal and moved the Extra folder from that onto my HD.. That go my install booting again. Again, I ran his app, again it failed. I deleted my /Extra folder, and tried again. Again, it failed. Some kind of message to explain what the problem is would be great. The good news is sound now works. Bad news is sleep doesn't. I put it to sleep, and it goes right to sleep. But it won't wake. It ignores the keyboard, and a tap of the power button, which used to wake it just fine, brings me to the bios and a fresh boot.. WTF??

Are you doing a fresh install on a newly partitioned HD? What version of SL does your USB drive initially install? After the SL installer is finished, you need to reboot from the USB drive and when the myHack progress bar comes up press any key and select the drive on which you just installed SL. After you've booted up into your fresh copy of SL, then you run Ridgeline's post-installer. After that you should be able to boot directly from your SL HD. If so, then go to the energy saver system preferences and check the box for "startup automatically after power failure." Also check the sound preference panel to see if your sound output choices work. They should. Then I would do the update to 10.6.4. This will break your sound. To fix sound you'll need the AppleHDA file from 10.6.2 -- available from Ridgeline's site. Autosleep may still not work for you depending on whether the DSDT you selected is the right one for your CPU and on the model of your DVD drive. However, if you manually put the computer to sleep, you should be able to wake it without causing a reboot. h50

Deleting the /Extra folder should make it all but a fresh install as far as the installer is concerned. I can't just wipe my drive and start over, and I don't have a spare drive to do a fresh install to. I only have the 10.6.0 DVD, so that's what I put on the USB stick. I did follow the procedure of booting off the USB stick, onto my hard drive, running his installer, and it failed. Some kind of message telling me what failed, so I can fix it, would help a lot here. Sound has started working now, so that's good. I've just checked the option in the power management that you suggested. I'll give that a try. Auto sleep has always come and gone for me, I'm ok with having to do the 3 finger salute (Command-Option-Eject) everytime I want it to sleep. But right now, it reboots instead of wakes from sleep. I'll see if this power option changes that. Ok, so I guess it all went successfully. Changing that option in the power management "Startup automatically after power failure" solved the sleep problem. So in a roundabout way, I managed to use Ridgeline's installer and get updated to 10.6.4, get my onboard sound working for the first time ever, and thanks to Hawaii's tip, sleep still works as well as ever.
