Snow Leopard Retail with a GTX 260

Hello everyone, long time no see. ;)

First off, my hardware. Foxconn p55MX motherboard, i7 core 8xx, 4 gb RAM, and most importantly a GTX 260.

So I have an issue. I've been using the guide below along with a Foxconn P55MX Motherboard. Before updating the bios, I couldn't get past the root device issue (because the AHCI option wasn't in BIOS v01. It's in v05.)

http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2009/12/ins...ectly-from.html

Anyway, I get to RIGHT before the installation screen - I actually get to it, but I can't see it. This is due to the fact that the display goes off right when I reach the installation screen. I can tell that it gets to this point because if I hit enter, the disc starts spinning again, showing that it's in the installer. I've tried switching the input to the monitor, but it seems to be the card itself.

I believe it's a direct issue with the card because in the comments, user Jeff33702 reports the same thing. He had a spare card available, but I do not.

Any ideas, tips? I've tried quite a few pre-brewed bootloaders. I'm not sure how to do one myself. :/

Thanks for the help, everyone. After this, I'd love to upload a guide for this board, including how to do a bios update.

-x does not work, graphicsenabler=yes doesn't want to work... Is there another boot CD I should try?

This is a standard problem with this card. You have to temporarily remove nvdaresman.kext (boot into -s mode) add the correct efi strings and then put it back correct the permissions and you should be good to go. I also have this card gtx 260 dual dvi ports and I am going crazy trying to get it to work. I wish I would have the blank screen problem because the solution to that is simple. Are you using and enabler because SL has native support for the gtx 200 series. Also EFI strings can only be made in leopard and you have to hope that your NVcap is correct. here is a link

First off, Thank you. Really. :)

I think we're getting somewhere - the problem is that this issue is happening when booting from the install disc. I cannot even get OSX installed yet due to the fact that the monitor turns off when it goes into the install menu for OSX. It's there - it's just not displaying.

Maybe there's a boot disc that disables nvdaresman.kext? Or an option to do so?

Here is a copy of my com.apple.Boot.Plist with the string that enables my Asus Geforce GTX 260

I just use Chameleon 2 or PC EFI 10.5/6 and GraphicsEnabler=Yes .. as a boot argument.

If that doesn't work for you then try with GraphicsEnabler=Yes and PciRoot=1 for chameleon

or if using PC EFI GraphicsEnabler=Yes and -pci1

I tried these arguments even with newer boot CDs, including the P55 ##### cd. Nothing wants to work. I changed to a very, very, very old PCI nvidia card from years ago just to see what might happen, but it then gave me an error with appleintelcpupowermanagement and hung right before the installation screen.

Do you think that a different graphics card would fix this?

EDIT: Just dug around. Perhaps it's an additional ethernet card that's screwing with the install. I'll see if disabling the onboard LAN or removing the PCI Ethernet slot fixes anything.

Alright, update, but there really hasn't been much progress.

Here's where I am. I've recently tried the new ##### CD. The CD worked great until the same area as the last time, but instead of a black screen, it now just restarts. Here are two YouTube videos of both failing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kHlcxJxJ5A

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FSymX4pa7M

Don't mind my language, it's 2am and I'm tired.

EDIT: the timeout is appleintelcpupowermanagement. It's the last thing to show before freezing/restarting/going black.

Hi Getintothegame.

I've been reading your persistent issue. I wanna know if you have been able to fix the problem or not?

I'd suggest you use the NullCPUPowermanagement.kext in /Extra/Extensions/

Probably, use the latest (modded) FakeSMC.kext (version 2.5), from HERE

and SleepEnabler version 10.6.x. Yes, it's version number is: 10.6.x

This should block the adamant AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext and give your some progress.

Awaiting your reply.

Freaky Chokra :thumbsup_anim:

I don't know if this is similar to my problem/nuisance. During and after installing SL, I got the blue screen instead but I noticed that my system is still responding and working. I turn-off and waited for 5 or more secs before turning it back on. I did get my display to work again. So currently, I just turn-off/turn-on my monitor every time I start my PCMac.

Hi

For Solve black Screen Issue =

From Other OS (Like Windows(with MacDrive Application) or Leopard) Move All Files That Starts With NV*.kext in below address

SnowLeopard HD:\System\Library\Extensions

to Another Folder, Just Disappear Them From Extension Folder, But Do Backup Of Them!

They Are 4 files , as:

NVDANV40Hal.kext

NVDANV50Hal.kext

NVDAResman.kext

NVSMU.kext

this act will be starts your snow without any black screen issu, but the VGA isnt installed now

For Installing!!!

And Knowing your Card By System Profiler

Download this Package [Mirror - Mediafire]and extract to your desktop, Like this

1273059333.jpg

open terminal and type:

~/Desktop/GFXstrings/gfxutil -f display

you will be get texts like this

DevicePath = PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0xc,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)

copy just

PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0xc,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0),

now go to Desktop -> GFX String -> GTX 260 and open GTX260 with text editor.

find

<key>PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x3,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key>

and replace with ours.

now save this file with text editor as " gtx260.plist " in GTX260 Folder.

back to terminal and type

cd ~/Desktop/GFXstrings/GTX260
~/Desktop/GFXstrings/gfxutil -i xml -o hex ./gtx260.plist ./output.hex

now we have a "output.hex" file in GTX260 Folder.

open "output.hex" and copy all text from it, this texts called STRING.

back to terminal and type:

cp /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist ~/Desktop/

this command will be copy com.apple.boot.plist into desktop.

open it by text editor

add this string:

<key>device-properties</key>
<string>Paste STRING Here!</string>

Save com.apple.boot.plist file.and exit Text editor.

For Example, After This Job, Will Be Have Like This:
