Shef,

I tried the .txt file you used as your codec dump and it didn't fix my front audio port, don't know why? all other audio still worked fine so i just left it like it was. Don't know if you might have mixed up your files or if it was an issue on my end. To everyone one else, you can try either .txt file to get this working just make sure you use Apple HDA patcher 1.20! I was lazy and tried to use one of the older ones, 1.16 to be exact and this made my audio NOT work. I had some trouble finding 1.20 so I am going to attach it to this post.

Domreis,

Great to hear you got it working, nice call on the Macbook Air adapter too!

Randy,

Not sure why it doesn't work. I know I use my front port all the time with that driver. I sent those drivers to another person and his worked too. I wonder if its a combination of this driver and something else..

Well what is your exact audio configuration, do you have speakers plugged in also, what ports, are there mics plugged in. Just thinking maybe the fronts are deactivated because the speakers are plugged in or something? I dunno....i might just try reinstalling it. Sometimes it seems like the first time you try anything it doesn't work but magically that second time it does.....I guess ill try that tonight and get back to you.

I have been reading your thread here with interest, and the others specifically for the Inspiron 530. I too have bought this machine with the specific purpose of making it into a hackintosh.

Spec:
Build:DELL INSPIRON 530
Motherboard:DELL, Bios 1.0.13
CPU:Core2 Duo 2.2GHz
Harddrive: SATA 320GB partitioned into 50 (Vista or XP) and 270 Leopard.
Bootloader: GUID
LAN: onboard (intel?)
Audio: onboard
Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce 8300Gs (128MB) Factory Fitted

I have installed KALYWAY 10.5.1 leopard.

I have not been able to get as far an any of you, not even as far as the keyboard loop.

I get to various points on the boot up (-v) but it freezes every time (normal boot just gets to the "You need to restart your computer") however it does not always end with the same line in the boot messages, which i think is notable (i.e. does not fail at the same place each time, as below)

I did alter some BIOS settings, but I put them all back, as there was nothing that stood out as incorrect, I was just experimenting.

LAST LINES in boot:

Boot –v: (5 times)

Macintosh fseventsd[40]: log dir: /Volumes/XP/.fseventsd getting uuid: xxxxxxx-yyyy….. (4 times)

localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow[28]: Login Window Application Started (1 time)

Boot –v –x (5 times)

Macintosh mDNSResponder[27]: SetDomainSecrets: mDNSKeychainGetSecrets failed error 0 CFArrayRef 00000000 (3 times)

Macintosh mDNSResponder[30]: Couldn't read user-specified Computer Name; using default “Macintosh-000000000000b” instead (2 times)

Boot –v –f (5 times)

Macintosh /usr/sbin/oscpd[65]: starting (1 time)

Macintosh fseventsd[41]: log dir: /Volumes/XP/.fseventsd getting uuid: xxxxxxx-yyyy….. (4 times)

The only thing I can think of is to scrap the XP partition and go with a full disk for leopard, although I feel as if it will not make a differnece.

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions greatly received.

thanks

I followed through in the partition theory, and went for a partitionless install (leo only) and that has made no difference, so the partition is the not the cause.

Anybody ANY ideas here?

hmmm.....quite the stumper there....I am no where near well versed enough to say definitively what your problem is.....I do remember reading something about using the internal sata drives for installing and there being a work around or something. I don't remember specifically though. You may try searching for that. Again I also would suggest downloading the 10.5.2 image of Kalway and using that as most of my mini-tutorials are based on this and I believe ThaShef's are as well.

Really sorry I couldn't be more help. If I find something I will definately forward it your way.

Before I read your reply I had pretty much decided to go with Leo4allv3. I downloaded it and it installed right through first time (I knew my hardware specs so the driver picking was easier) and with the exception of the audio everything works!

Of course I tried to upgrade to 10.5.4 (leo4allv3 is 10.5.2) and it broke everything so I just installed again.

So I think I will stick with this one, I'm sure I'll be able to sort the audio. Then I think I will upgrade to a 4 core proc.

A PC friend of mine was so impressed that he asked me for the leo DVD and is giving it a go also ;)

Thanks Randy

Well just fyi, if you purchased a 530 with a dual core you can't upgrade to a quad core. There are slight variations in the motherboard to allow for the quad core's power requirements so its not really possible without a new motherboard. You can google it for more but i learned this before purchasing and it was what pushed me to get the quad core earlier then i had planned. (I intended to upgrade also)

1st, Thanks to Randy for starting the thread!

2nd, I have a macbook and an iMac and both seem to slow a good bit when I start doing some CPU intensive stuff (running VMware, multiple MAC programs running, etc). I decided to take an old Intel Nightshade server (P3) and replace the motherboard and chip with a new quad core. After looking around, I can probably buy a quad core Inspiron 530 for not much more than the price of the needed components.

So the question is...

Is the 530 stable? Could I use it as an everyday machine? It is as speedy as I would imagine a quad core would be?

Thx for any feed back and I may be buying a new box as soon as I hear from this thread.

Running sweet! Retail 10.5.6 >10.5.8 NOT SNOW but dsdt should work its patched for cmosreset fix.

CHANGE DVD SATA ON MAINBOARD TO BLACK PORT top hard disk stays on blue port

by the way > this board has 2 different SATA controller ICH9 which we are using as ide aka Pata emulation and the ICH9-R 2926 2 port that i dont use DVD with dsdt in other post of mine ahead of this (EDIT)

(at end of install says failed LIES!! use the cd to boot from device 80 then use -v)

Boot with a Slimbuild 132 disk by Hagar with multiple iso's inside that has AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext that includes ich9 device 2920 ..

BIOS defaults then turn off floppy and sata should be in IDE mode (running bios 1.0.18)

now to tackle the audio.. should be a breeze. checking front functionality.

(EDIT: VoodooHDA by slice and Autumrain 2.35 works (even snow leopard version now))

1: SKIP THIS: osx86tools to inject string for Nv 7300GS 128MB then enabled quartz. USE INSTEAD graphicsenabler checked in chameleon2 and aserebln boot replaced in EFI OR root of drive

2: DO THIS: installed Kext Intel82566MM.kext with kexthelper from cheetha.net (if some issues at first.. repair disk permissions )

3: DO THIS CHAMELEON 2 RC2(bootloader) in customize CHECK ONLY THE EFI if you want to keep files out of main OSX drive. Next drop menu in -Options and check /EthernetBuiltIn , /Graphics Enabler . and NOTHING AT ALL IN KEXTS of chameleon only if u have a E4500, 4600 2.4Ghz cpu might need disabler if cpu is way differrent (my DSDT in my other post takes care of hpet and sata to NATIVE 2828 ich8-m dvd works in black port)

4: SKIP THIS :an old method to boot without sata driver issues is to check in -Extras pATA emulation SUPPORT FOR ICH6-10

JUST SKIP ALLTHIS AND GO TO MY NEXT POST a few months ahead april 10 and try the dsdt.aml in the zip.. put it in Extra folder then u wont need a hacked appleintelpiiXata any more.

(ps if u keep in EFI hidden partition the dsdt.aml and u want to start over fresh. u can wipe the OSX drive by erase method and as long as u don't partition it wont erase EFI and im looking into a script to automount the EFI and launch kexthelperb7 and install the Intel Lan and VooDoHDA (which is inside the EFI/Tools folder :P

Here is how i got my Dell Inspiron To run OSX

My Inspiron Specs are as follows:

3gb ram

500gb hard drive

Nvidia 9500GT Gfx card

core 2 duo processor

and everything other than the Graphics card is stock

---------------------------

Installation Method: iDeneb 10.5.6

1. put the cd in and boot

2.set up your partition and then when you get to the customize screen do the following

3. I selected the VODOO Kernel...when i tried vanilla i got the WAITING FOR ROOT error

4. i choose the nvidia inject patch for my 1gb card yours may vary

5. i choose the whole application folder

The first few times i was getting the dreaded Waiting for root error then i decided i would choose vodoo kernal, disable my onboard sound and LAN and set my HDD configuration to RAID...alot of ppl said set it to AHCI but my mobo doesnt have that option so i choose raid.

after doing theese steps i loaded straight into OSX with no problems...everything is working great

i used a kext for my onboard lan which is called Intel82566MM you can search around for it it worked perfectly when installed with the Kext Helper

my usb headset is working perfectly so i havent tested my onboard sound however i know theres a kext for it somewhere.

Finally i just wanted to appoligize for a few things. Im sorry my grammer is bad and also i tried to post a new topic for this but it said i wasnt allowed so i searched for dell inspiron 530 and posted it here instead so i hope this helps someone out there.

UPDATE: retail method again (prior post 11 mo ago) with inspiron530 pack / dsdt

boot132 with multiple iso's inside by hagar

inspiron entries both work with -v -f

The DSDT.aml Inspiron 530 with cpu e4600. no more need for silly ioata hacked kext= it has injection of intel device 2828 aka ich8-m (same as ich9 2 port 2920)

PLACE DVD CABLE ON A BLACK TOP PORT!! NOT WHITE ONE or NOT BOTTOM BLACK!!! ich9-r not working lower 2 dev 2926 .. tried ESB2 devide id and no go. but no crash !

(i tested it by erasing drive but leaving dsdt and mods in EFI /Extra /dsdt.aml :smbios.plist with imac 7.1 info.

booting aserebln 1.19 with nvidia graphicsenabler works nice. and voodoohda by slice and autumrain 2.35 works nice.

FIXES:

1: SATA native (no kext needed top 2 ports, bottom 2 no working due to different chipset mode cant load ahci and intelpiixata at same time or kernel panic)

2: no audio section to prevent VoodooHDA errors on boot with assertions.

3: sleep (usb section from gigabytes dsdt fixes worked fine compete copy and paste from usb0 to ehci2 section.

speedstep with 5 steps for e4600 2.4ghz .. should work in many factory cpus. (u can alternately remove CPU section and place your own p-states with p-state calculator)

shutdown works in dsdt WITH A FIX .. i think. at least it worked for me on leop 10.5.8 with no openhaltrestart (i think.. have to wipe and test fresh)

{
	Store (ESMI, Local0)
	And (Local0, 0xFB, Local0)
	Store (Local0, ESMI)
	Store (0x99, SMIP)
	Store (Zero, SLPE)
	Sleep(0x10)]
}

added this

Store (Zero, SLPE)

Sleep(0x10)] and found SLPE is actualy called TRAP further up the dsdt

this code was on a snipt site by jsveron23 (dunno if its his credit but found it in google "dsdt shutdown ix" intentional missing f for fix

EDIT: the only thing not working is LAN on wakeup...i need help with DSDT guru's. the _pwr is not working

MORE DETAILED STEPS INSIDE insp530.ZIP

( i laugh at distros most of times) click apple update and find out if it works.. it does for me!
