Thanks for such an awesome work!

I'm running XxX x86 10.5.6, everything fine but a strange noise that seems to come from the graphics card, apparently a hardware problem, but what is curious is that it only appears under OSX, never when running Linux.

It sounds like a little vibration, and is not continuos, I mean it comes from time to time.

Any support is welcomed. Thanks in advance!

I am a little confused right now. There are m1340s with the 9400m card and then there is another with the 9500m card with SLI. The first post says that the 9500m does NOT work, correct?

Does that mean that I can't use QE/CI AT ALL??? Or could I just use the 9400m for QE/CI? Will Snow Leopard just ignore the discrete graphics in my laptop and act like it's just a 9400m by itself?

Please help, my decision on buying this laptop hinges on this revelation.

I want to have a dual-boot of W7 and SL, with W7 for gaming using the SLI, SL would still have QE/CI right?

QE/CI works with the 9500m model of 1340, it's just that you can't get any benefit from the discrete 9200m part. In fact, under OSX I suspect the extra discrete graphics part will just

sit there wasting extra power and producing extra heat (in a laptop that already has issues with both).

Hi,

Thanks for your hard work on this laptop.

I've recently come across a problem where finder crashes if I try to access any of the menu items on the menus at the top of the screen, or if I right click on a file.. the menu appears but then finder crashes and reloads.

I'm fairly sure this was working before because I remember using 'get info'

The only changes I have made recently are installing skype and updating the BIOS to A11 (also changed DSDL file thinking this could be causing problems.)

Bizarelly the menus on other apps work, apart from Terminal, which has the same problem.

Also, everytime I boot, Mac OS says I have an unconfigured Bluetooth DUN, would I like to configure it. If I try to add a network device, the control panel crashes. This has always been crashing

I'll post the error logs below this.

Thanks.

QE/CI works with the 9500m model of 1340, it's just that you can't get any benefit from the discrete 9200m part. In fact, under OSX I suspect the extra discrete graphics part will just

sit there wasting extra power and producing extra heat (in a laptop that already has issues with both).

Thank you very much for the answer.

The first time my lid closes the computer goes to sleep, the second time it doesn't. Also, after sleeping once it won't shutdown properly.

I'm using pstate.kext and openhaltrestart. Is this a common problem ... or should I toggle with some things?

I had the same problem. Realised i had Bios A11 factory installed.

Changed my DSDT.aml to the A11 one posted by bcc9. I also installed Chameleon RC4 as well.

One of the two seems to fix it!

@bcc9 Awesome work. Got SL running

I am complete noob, but do have the ability to follow instructions.

I have one of the new 1340's with the Geforce 210m graphics.

Had a few issues when getting laptop to sleep but that was fixed with your A11 DSDT.aml. I have everything working like you desribe.

Has anyone had any luck with the 210m? I believe its a 9400 with something else strapped on for good measure (9500?)

I noticed a 240m/210m on a certain kext database website. Tried it for a laugh but it KP'd

Anyway, cheers for all your hard work. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the guide. It's awesome. I couldn't live without it!

So I've got Snow Leopard up and running, but I have a weird problem, which is more of an annoyance than anything, but it is very annoying. When I use the DSDT.aml posted by bcc9 here, I find that my colors go all out of whack. Unless I use one of the color profiles the colors look weird and the pinks are way too strong. If I use one of the color profiles, I can't get nice bright colors.

The problem goes away if I don't use DSDT.aml, but that's obviously a less than ideal solution. Anyone got any advice on this?

Thanks for the reply, bcc9. The TS-D633A is a Samsung drive, though I can't see why that would matter to the ATAPI driver. I guess I'll look at the IOAHCISerialATAPI kext and see if I can figure out something there. In the meantime, what brand is your drive? Would that be a Hitachi, by chance? Again, thanks for the reply. smile.gif

Hey dude, I posted a long time ago, is the DVD drive firmware, just downgrade and you are good to go =)

@bcc9 dude, you should post it in the first post, I think its something important to know.

I saw your post earlier about downgrading the firmware. However, I'm finding it difficult to find a firmware version that is compatible with the TSST TS-D633A drive. I've downgraded to a few of the Dell provided firmwares, but still no solution. If you can find something on this drive for me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for the input. ;)

I've updated post #1 to reference olegpronin's post. That is all the info I've seen corroborated.

Dell doesn't even sell or fully support this laptop anymore so saying that I should maintain info on a hardware config I don't have is a bit much.

I've recently come across a problem where finder crashes if I try to access any of the menu items on the menus at the top of the screen, or if I right click on a file.. the menu appears but then finder crashes and reloads.

I notice you're running OSX in 64 bit mode, instead of 32 bit mode as Apple does for snow leopard. I don't have the problems you report, but I also am running my system in 32 bit mode. Recommend you start by checking whether you have these problems in 32 bit mode.

THere are only 2 moving parts in that area to consider: The CPU fan and the optical drive. Probably you're hearing the CPU fan with your system running hotter under OSX than linux. You could run the system without the cover on to exactly identify how it's vibrating.

I think the only problem I have, some time to time, is that I boot my laptop and I get a purple screen and it stays there, I have to turn off and turn on again and it will boot normally. And sometimes when using the laptop, the hdd led will stay on, and all processes will start to freeze one by one until nothing works, the cursor moves but nothing else works at all, so same process, turn off and start again =)

I think something wrong in your system. I'm running 10.6.2 in 64-bit mode and all works correct.

I've been using chameleon RC4 since it came out, no problems here. Sleep&resume work; no error messages concerning sleepimage.

Oh... I'm sorry.

I have no problem with normal sleep&resume.

If I add ForceWake=yes in com.apple.Boot.plist to activate wake from hibernation (or deep sleep), then RC4 freezes.

It seems that nobody cares deep sleep here. :(

Another question.

Where can I find dsdt file for A11????????? I read some post saying there is a dsdt file for A11 bios from bcc9, but I couldn't find it..

I just noticed I was missing the smbios.plist from the /Extra folder, also rebuilt my Extensions.mkext and suddenly everything is working as it should :(

I haven't seen one, but post #1 plus generic newbie help that is all over this site should fill in the gaps. Newbie info isn't 1340 specific anyways.

I keep recommending you guys make your own 1340 newbie thread but nobody does...

Ok, thanks for the reply bcc9, I've installed 10.5.6 on my 1340, but for some reason the quartz extreme is not working. I mainly want keynote to run...

Maybe I'll start a newbie thread if there isn't one

If you follow post #1 in *this* thread not the obsolete 10.5.x thread, then you'd have 10.6.x running with quartz extreme.
