linuxsense
I will look into this tomorrow (Saturday). I've had a busy schedule lately. Let me know if you need anything tested...and thanks for the hard work. Going Bald
The first page only mentions out of the GA X-58A series the UD7 model but not the UD3R and UD5 models. Do those two models work as well as the UD7 or are there any known problems? I just do not want the complexity of water cooling, if I can avoid it. Thanks. You don't have to use liquid cooling unless you want to. The X58A-UD7 comes with a VaporX type Northbridge cooler that you can install instead of liquid cooling (there are also connection ports for liquid cooling on the Northbridge heat sink but I did not choose to use them). It does, however, use the top expansion slot for the exterior cooling fins (you lose the use of the 1st PC X1 slot, but who needs it?) There is also a fan connector right there if you want to add a fan for the Northbridge cooler. I currently dual boot Windows7 64bit and OSX 10.6.2 64bit(I used a Toshiba 16GB for the USB boot method to install) System: Coolermaster Cosmos RC1000 Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 Intel Core i7 920 Noctua NH-12P Sapphire VaporX HD5770 - changed to nvidia 7600GT then to 9500GT after KP when 10.6.2 update 2 6GB kits Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D - 12 GB total Corsair CMXAF2 Dominator memory fan Corsair HX850 PSU Pioneer DVR-S18MBK superwriter LG BH08 BD superwriter 6 Seagate 1 TB Barracudas Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195248-kakewalk-minimal-effort-install-ep45-ex58-p55-g41/page/67/#findComment-1419564 Share on other sites
trwoolley
mrjanek, Thank you for a great guild and tools. I have my GA-EX58-UD5 running perfectly. I would like to give you some files for the GA-EX58-UD5 that will enable vanilla power management so that there will be no need for any extra kexts except for fakesmc.kext and RealtekR1000SL.kext. I thought you might like to update the installer for this Motherboard to make it even easier and a cleaner install. I don't take any credit for the DSDT mods, for that please see d00d's topic ... GA-EX58 and GA-X58A DSDT native power management modifications, lower CPU temperatures, turbo plus one clock ratio, sleep, etcetera The attached file contains my Extra folder with the modified DSDT from d00d's topic. This DSDT will provide the following for the GA-EX58-UD5 1. Native power management (Includes autosleep, wake with mouse or keyboard, sleep with power button, wake with Power Button, USB removal after wake fix) 2. Native audio (no need for any legacy audio kexts). 3. All internal hard drives will be seen as internal (no need for IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext) Extra.zip - Swhay - Thank you so much for this! My Kakewalk 1.8.1 (Asere bootloader v.1.1.8) installation is now further perfected by your (dOOd) Extra folder. I changed nothing in your folder except added my unique SMUUID and changed the memory data in smbios.plist to match my memory sticks. I have not overclocked, but my temperature came down at least 5°C on all cores and my Geekbench scores went up about 12%. Otherwise Snow Leopard runs just as smoothly as before but perhaps a bit faster as revealed in Geekbench since I am certain that the first core is now speedstepping above 2.66GHz while other cores are less active. All devices function as expected, audio, ethernet, etc. I no longer get the removable orange HDD icons - a plus! I would now like to overclock my Intel i7 920 2.66 GHz as you have done to 3.32 GHz. Could you point me to a simple guide, or maybe walk me through the steps. We have identical boards and CPUs, so it should be a "calkwalk" as well! Thanks again! beetleaz
1) Thanks - Kakewalk is really good! 2) I have EP45-DS4 motherboard. All were installed Ok and works great except Firewire (unable to list firewire devices error displays) May be somebody know how to solve this problem? I need Firewire because my 5.1 soundcard is connected there. zeigerpuppy
I have some questions regarding how Kakewalk plays with the Nvidia GTX 285... I installed with the Gigabyte USB method v1.6 beta, Snow Leopard 10.6.2 everything working great, but my graphics cards benchmarks are very low (about half what they should be) I tried the Enabler_for_Nvidia_and_multiple_ATI_cards from netkas (luckily on a cloned partition) and it doesn't increase the performance and causes the system to hang on waking from sleep. Questions: 1) how does GigabyteUSB recognise my GTX 285 (EVGA 1GB)? - it does very well, by the way (dual display OK too) 2) is there a better driver to use? 3) will rerunning the new installer - Kakewalk help? 4) I read that you need to have 2 graphics cards, I have taken my other card out because I didn't need it, is that OK? refs: my specs are about half what is seen on this page http://netkas.org/?p=105 the card seems fine, specs in windows are fine. The GTX 285 is installed in the first PCI-E 2.0 slot as listed in the GA-X58A-UD7 manual, I tried it in slot 3 also, no change... viets7ylez
I cannot get this to run with 10.6.2. I can get 10.6.0 working perfectly and once I install the update it won't boot. It gets to the white apple screen... Does the spinning thing then goes to a black screen like it is about to boot and then stays blank. Then the monitor says no signal. I have been trying everything to get this to work and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong can anyone please help? I'm using the ex58 ud5 board and the 9800gtx gfx card. seanmcd
Is it really this easy!?! I just installed 10.6 with kakewalk, and updated normally to 10.6.2 without any issues!! Everything works perfectly. Seems like even sleep works, which if it doesn't is no big deal to me. I have had a perfectly working 10.5.8 install for a very long time so I've been very reluctant to mess with 10.6, but it looks like it will work perfect. My hardware: EP45-UD3R (Bios F9) BFG GTX285OC video Linksys G wifi card So I can't believe auto update worked without any tricks!? Should I expect any issues? I still have my 10.5.8 install I'm going to test a little more before I copy over it. username42
Just want to say thanks mrjanek, your kakewalk option worked perfectly for my Asrock P55 Pro. I ended up using the MSI p55 option in your bootloader to finally get this machine working. I have a quick question though about the GraphicsEnabler=Yes option. I'm wondering how I can get QE/CI working with my GeforceGTS 250 card. At the moment the graphics are working, but I would like to get QE/CI up to get full acceleration options with my card -- for movies, and possibly games and such. What are your suggestions? I've looked at this source -> http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?act...&thread=509 and I'm not sure if I should go through with it. I'll probably in the mean time read up on as much as I can about this, but could you mention how your graphics work for your bootloader? Katskull
I posted here a few days ago didnt see a reply, perhaps its cause my question/problem was too stupid, either way asking again, atleast tell me if its too stupid or point me towards it being already answered. Using ga-x58a-ud3r motherboard with kakewalk cd it boots up and I swap discs and start SL. loads up the big apple and the spinning (working) icon. About a minute later it just greys out and tells me to restart (kernel panic i assume). i7 920 processor, mb listed, 2 gtx 260 geforce, 2x 500gb wd hard drives (one for w7 one for osx) 3x 2gb 1600 corsair memory Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195248-kakewalk-minimal-effort-install-ep45-ex58-p55-g41/page/67/#findComment-1420306 Share on other sites
schaefer.vince
So I used the X58A-UD7 iso on my X58A-UD3R using the Kakewalk USB drive method, and everything works PERFECTLY! Updated through apple to 10.6.2 and its flawless. MANY thanks to mrjanek and all others for such an easy experience with this. I never thought it would ever get this easy. Initital question: Using Geekbench, it shows my bus frequency to be 100 Mhz. Yeah, Thats pretty slow. The other stats all appear to be pretty lackluster as well compared to the core 2 duo iMac I'm moving... Is this cosmetic, or is there some sort of major bottlenecking going on? Anyone else experience anything like this? THANKS! Some additional specs: X58A-UD3R intel core i7 920 WD640GB 7200rpm SATA 6GB 1067 corsair DDR3 ram Geoforce 9800GT 1GB DDR3 I haven't done any OC work on it, this is still the first night ive had 10.6 running on it.
