Automatic Sleep works for my machine and it did with the previous version of SleepEnabler too. This other version is no different except is blocks AppleUpstreamUserClient for the Quicktime mouse lag bug.

 

There are different ideas on why it doesn't work for everybody, and they are mostly hardware related. But unfortunately nobody has pinned down exactly why it won't work for some systems.

 

After install SL when i click on SL disc icon i see all files, boot, symlink to etc, all folders. In Leopard, I saw only a few folders, the rest was hidden. Like do so by clicking on the icon of the drive system showed me only those

folders you need?

This has been covered before. You should only see 4 folders when you open Snow Leopard volume in the Finder. What install method did you use? as this is known to happen when using the OSInstall.mpkg method or maybe you had a damaged disc image?

 

 

 

Chameleon Themes

 

After your hard work of building your hackintosh, did you know that you can personalise your install by changing the Chameleon theme? For a while now myself and others have been creating different themes and just thought I would mention it incase it wasn't well known and have attached a preview of one of mine here for reference.

 

EDIT: I have also attached a preview of my latest theme too. :D

Gigabyte have finally released an updated BIOS for the GA-EP45-DS3L F11b

EDIT: Okay - it works great :D

 

WARNING! - as with any BIOS update - Do this at your own risk.

 

Steps required.

1 - Download F11b BIOS

2 - In Windows, extract BIOS file from .EXE (I have now added the extracted BIOS file here)

3 - Rebuild your DSDT using the new EP45DS3L.11b BIOS file adding all your patches then add it to /Extra.

4 - In Windows, format a USB memory stick as FAT (not FAT32).

5 - Copy the EP45DS3L.11b BIOS file to the USB

6 - With USB stick in hackintosh, reboot and press DEL to enter BIOS

7 - Press F8 to enter Q-Flash Utility.

8 - Select Floppy (I think I did that), and it will read the USB stick and display the BIOS file found.

9 - Select to install it, and it will give you a checksum value of 3A00. Select OK and update your BIOS.

10 - Reboot by pressing one of the options shown (Can't remember which), and press DEL to enter the BIOS.

11 - Select Load Optimized Defaults, then set all your previous BIOS settings. AHCI, HPET 64-bit etc..

12 - Save and reboot. And you will now see AHCI v1.20E and have a faster boot process.

 

Snow Leopard booted up first time but I didn't have network. DCHP was self-assigned ... 169.?.?.?

I have had this before so I switched off the computer, and flicked the power switch to off and left it for a minute to reset the CMOS. Flicked the power switch back on, and press the power button on the front. All booted perfectly and network is now back to normal. Everything works as it should. Bingo! :)

I'd flashing it!

 

There is another way more fast with the gigabyte's utility "@BIOS" that run under vista or win7.

I used it and work fine rapid without hard work :(

Thanks for mentioning the @BIOS option under Windows. I am not running Windows at the moment on my hack so I didn't have that option. :(

 

EDIT: I have edited the post on the front page to mention the @BIOS option.

This tutorial worked very well for me...only one issue I can see right now: I only have a single display working on my 9800GT. What do I need to do to get the 2nd display to be enabled? Different entry in com.apple.Boot.plist? Currently I have: <string>1680x1050x32</string>

 

EDIT: Fix the problem using OSX86Tools, everything seems to be working well at this point.

I've tried to get Bonjour working as per your guide and I'm not sure if it's working or not!

The procedure in your '6. Activate Bonjour Networking' seemed to go OK, and the script loads at startup, but I don't see 'SHARED' in the Finder sidebar, so I can't tell if it's working or not.

Any suggestions?

Hi imacken. Good to hear from you ;)

 

Bonjour should be working. But like you, I don't get 'SHARED' in the Finder sidebar either. Maybe It only appears when it finds a file server or something? My method of testing Bonjour is with iTunes sharing with a Vista PC and using the remote app on my iPhone to control my music library.

 

You can try a different method if you like. Have a read of my Bonjour thread here.

I have personally used DigitalDJ's CPUInjector.kext option and it works for me.

 

 

@SkaPunk - Yes, as imacken posted you need a GUID partition table to install. Have a read of the install guide PDF.

HUGE thank you to blackosx for all his amazing guides - I used both the DSDT and 10.6.1 guide with great success ! :D

 

I followed both guides and it was very smooth - all the problems I had were due to errors on my part (here's a tip: read everything, don't make assumptions, take your time ! :gun: )

 

A few small hiccups, as a reference to others:

- Specific to my system, I have a bytecc firewire card, which worked fine in 10.5.x, but was not showing up in 10.6.1. Some searching around revealed that removing AppleHPET.kext from /S/L/E does indeed solve the problem. I'm not super comfortable with doing that, but so far I have not seen any negative side-effects (and of course I can access my FW drive). I would definitely be happier with a Chameleon enabler of some sort...

 

- In 10.5.x I was able to wake from sleep by either touching my USB mouse/keyboard. That no longer works, I have to hit the power button to successfully wake from sleep. Not a huge deal, although I'm going to keep an eye out for a fix.

 

All in all, I'm very happy with how it all went. 10.6.x does seem snappier, although it *seems* a little flakier - seen a few random beachballs and once I got completely and randomly logged out for no reason.

Well done with your install GoGades :)

If the only way to get your Firewire working was to remove AppleHPET.kext from /S/L/E then so be it. But as you know it's not the best option for this install. But at least if you have a software update, it won't break your install if AppleHPET.kext gets added back in by the update. You will just have to remember to remove it.

I too have to wake my system up from the Power Button on the case, but it's not a problem.

 

 

 

@l2oi3 - You can actually install 10.6 without a DSDT, but you will get the your CMOS reset everytime after running it so I wouldn't recommend it.

 

You can try using the pre-made DSDT.aml that's on the BootCD and in the Support Files, then add your network & video with device (EFI) strings. There's no guarantee that it will work, but it might as it's only has the ALC888-0 HDEF and the basic fixes applied. BUT Note: That DSDT was made using F10 BIOS.

 

If it works then once you have 10.6 installed, you can then run IORegistryExplorer to get the necessary info for making a new DSDT for your system.

WOW, 100% success. I even didn't tried DSDT on my 10.5.6 system, took a chance and BINGO everything works like a charm.

I had some problem with the bootcd, I guess it's because my PATA DVD so I rushed to Office Depot at the late evening to buy 8gb stick.

Now my problem is to go through all the 65 pages and look for some cool tweaks to the system.

@blackosx - because you know this thread better than anyone else please report some cool tweaks that you didn't mentioned in your guide.

How to create a partition for Snow Leo on it?

If you have unused space at the end of your current partition then maybe you can shrink it and add a second partition. But whether or not Disk Utility allows you to do this or not is another question. You could also try GParted to achieve the same thing, but always backup your system BEFORE trying anything.

 

 

@ itorra - Well done :)

 

Well for starters, you can build yourself a DSDT using my DSDT guide (link in my signature). Then you can add ApexDE's tweaks at the end of the DSDT guide. Then you can add CPUInjector.kext by DigitalDJ and change your Mac Model to a MacPro to sort out the audio pop. I try to keep the front page of this guide up to date with any new fixes etc.. Have a look at the 'Up to date info that's not in the PDF guide' section. Then maybe customise your Chameleon bootloader screen with one of my themes? (see here)

 

EDIT: I see DigitalDJ has continued development of CPU Detection and now discontinued support of the Kext and patched the source in to Netkas' PC EFI 10.3 boot file. Read Here.
