I updated Snow Leopard with no problem, (on G31M-ES2L), it's fully retail (6 Kexts in /Extra/Extensions), but I can't have my graphic card recognized... The problem is, I want to be fully retail. So i don't want to put .kext in /S/L/E And for the moment, I can't see a working kext on x64 and in /Extra/Extensions When i use the EFI strings, it doesn't work : i have a black screen. (But the system is running, if I lunch iTunes by Spotlight and then press on the space bar, my music is running.) Someone have ane idea ? BladeRunner Posted August 29, 2009 Share Posted August 29, 2009 Don't know what your specific problem is, but my 8400 GS is running with EFI strings. My main system runs 10.5.8 and uses EFI strings for the graphics card. When I installed 10.6 on an external USB connected drive I used the same EFI strings without a problem. One thing I did notice though - I could not get some of my additional kext to run correctly in /Extra/Extensions. I had to boot into single user mode ( -s ) and then use kextcache to build /Extra/Extensions.mkext. Then, they started working correctly. However, I have no additional and/or modified kext to support the 8400 GS. Just the EFI strings. I wish you luck. Hope you locate the problem soon. leslieking Posted August 30, 2009 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Offtopic: I use the 8500GT without EFI strings.. Chameleon2 RC1 recognize the card automaticly. I tried with EFI strings and no luck... In fact, when i used OSX86Tools to choose GFX Strings, I tried to use "nVidia GeForce 8400GS 512Mb", but I shouldn't do that ! I've dumped my GFX card ROM using nvflash, and get the string of numbers from NVCAP maker.... My question is, how to add that to the EFI strings? Flashed my card with a QuadroFX ROM (aquamac's guide) - genereated my own EFI strings using GFXUTIL - Hardware acceleration now working as it should in SL. At last! adamsweeting Posted August 31, 2009 Share Posted August 31, 2009 OK... So I downloaded the vanilla ROM from Inno3D for my card. Re-flashed that, so the card is running the correct BIOS now. I've tried to edit my com.apple.Boot.plist in /sldrive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist But my video card doesn't load when putting in the custom hex string. I tried moving the com.apple.Boot.plist to /sldrive/Extra and Chameleon didn't boot to that SL drive when I made that change for some odd reason. I deleted the com.apple.Boot.plist from /Extra and the Chameleon was able to boot the drive again. I have GeForce 8400GS 256mb. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks! I was applying the settings to the com.apple.Boot.plist in the snowleo drive and it was supposed to be applied to the USB drive which is what I'm booting from.
