Been busy, haven't had time to update. Old guide up for archiving purposes.

*****

In the meantime, you can download the old Software Kit package with the previous guide in PDF:

http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=94c1b09...006b35ffc0bb875

If you just want to read the 10.5.4 guide, I put it up on Scribd as well:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/7795584/Leopard-Soup-1054

Old 10.5.4 Guide Updates:

1. All updates as of August 3rd, 2008 work perfectly, including the latest Security Update

2. Added a Stock Icon Kit, Boot Resolution Mod, BIOS Apple Logo hack, and Custom Startup Sound tutorial.

3. Added cosmetic fixes for Audio and NVinstaller/NVinject Video

4. Added instructions on How to boot Kalyway 10.5.2 from a USB Stick (for speedier installations)

5. Added a Fix for PS/2 keyboards and mice

6. Added a guide for Getting SMBIOS to Display the Proper Memory Information

7. Software Starter Kit and Updated Software Kit for the Guide (currently guide does NOT reflect this update!)

Awesome guide Weaksauce - will be a keeper for sure.. looks like you've covered all the bases.

BTW, word on the street is that .4 is due out in early july.

PEOPLE take note, this is for the V2 board / V.7 bios ! its important, I'm sure Weaksauce doesn't want to be hammered with questions why your amd sempron on the ecs motherboard doesn't run leopard after following his guide !...

compatibility is key !

v1.0 25-June-2008

This guide is for the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Rev 2.0 motherboard running BIOS v.7.

Stella has found a working Onboard Ethernet driver from Psystar of all places:

http://www.psystar.com/realtek_r1000_driver.html

It takes 5-8 seconds for the Ethernet to kickstart itself after waking from sleep, but it works. I'm guessing their version has a feature that automatically resets DHCP on wake. So, if you don't want to buy the $8 Network Card, this is a good option to go with!

Just a note, vanilla kernel works absolutely fine with the DS3L board.

What was your install method? I tried both the 9.2 and 9.3 vanilla kernels and shutdown/restart got all screwed up. I haven't tried the sleep kernel since reverting back to the 10.5.2 kexts, however, so I'll give that a shot this weekend.

I got internal wireless working using an Encore ENLWI-N PCI card. It's an 802.11b/g/n card and only costs $35 at Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...amp;Tpk=ENLWI-N

Here's the driver:

http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/drivers/..._2007_11_26.dmg

It works just like the HCL says - it shows up as an Ethernet connection. When you configure it, it's programmed to open their wireless utility, where you can then join a network and see detailed information about wifi-related stuff. A little weird that it doesn't show up as an Airport or have a wireless icon in the menubar, but hey, for $35 I'm not complaining! :hysterical:

Would you care to share how you did it? I'm looking to build a new hack and I would really like to run vanilla.

Thanks

You don't have to do anyting. I can run a completely vanilla install with an IntelCPUPM disabler, and an SMBIOS enabler, I don't have to remove a single kext. It will run like that, for sound I just need a patched HDA, video, a string, TM, also a dp string. It's really a very compatible board.

So what is the advantage of running vanilla? I also see you are running 10.5.2?

Nothing really...even with a Vanilla kernel, the 10.5.3 update breaks the system unless you install it with something like Kaly's combo updater or following Netkas' directions.

Hey onetrack, I'm able to ship to the US so I actually got the boards off eBay. Let's just say I scored a really nice deal!

Actually no, I have a IntelCPUPM disabler and a one line modification to dsmos and you can update through Software update, believe me, I did it.

You were able to download 10.5.3 without any special Terminal mumbo-jumbo or a special installer package?? Okay, you have to spell out how you did that for us now :D

Any thoughts on how similar and thus how compatible the other versions of this board would be.

Great tutorial BTW - Might be my guide to my first Hackintosh

GA-P35T-DS3P (rev. 1.0) (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2622)

GA-P35-DS3R (rev. 2.1) (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2746)

My advice is to read through PCwiz's great tutorial here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=90795

It covers a variety of Gigabyte boards. I wrote this guide specifically for the DS3L rev.2 board using Kalyway so that people could have a 100% working system simply by following a list instructions.

Yep and I wrote a whole guide on it, I got 0 replies until I rebumped the thread myself. And I already said what I did. I use a kext that disables AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement from ever loading and I changed the last value in the Info.plist of dsmos from Safe-Boot to Root. That's it.

My prices were actually less.. I got the PNY Verto 8800GTS and the 1TB samsung F1 hd for 130 each, no tax, no shipping.

And I scored my board on ebay as well.. didn't save a huge amount on it, but enough to cover taxes and shipping for sure.

hi. great guide man, reaaally helpful. gonna buy a new comp. the thing is that the only mobo i can find in new egg that resembles the GA-P35-DS3L is this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128337

its a GA-EP35-DS3L. i read somewhere that the letter "E" behind the P35 means that its energy efficient, but i'm not sure if there's any other major change that will make this board not compatible with this method. don't know that much about mobos to tell the difference. will it work?

also, i'm buying this card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814500006

its a geforce 8800 gt 512. i know that now much more ban for the buck would be an ati 4850, but that will not be available for osx86 for a while i guess. is this geforce card a good buy? (dont want to spend more than 180 on card). i want to make a balance in gaming (playing age of conan mostly) and also a really good osx86 compatible system.

sorry if this is not the place to ask this, but i read on your guide that these two are the main ingredients for a efficent setup. i'm one click away from making the purchase, just want to make sure.

thanks for feedback!
