Vista AND Office RTM leaked to the masses

You were probably expecting this. Vista RTM has been taken from the MSDN download site and leaked to the public torrent sector. For those who can't wait for the build to hit shelves in January, you can install and test this build for a trial period of 30 days; after that, you'll just have to wait to obtain a legit key in order to continue using it. There are also rumors of a crack to enable use of RC1 and RC2 keys - obviously we can't confirm this as we haven't tested them.

 

As always, we don't encourage you to steal. In fact, we strongly discourage it. Don't steal.

 

On a side note: Office 2007 is on MSDN, but has yet to be leaked. (Updated: Man, they're fast... Office 2007 is now available as well.)

 

UPDATE: I will confirm that the Office 2007 RTM build is 12.0.4518.1014. This is the ENTERPRISE edition, not ULTIMATE.

 

On another interesting sidenote, it appears that NO Office 2007 edition will be available with all the programs of the new Office 2007 family. Specifically, the most complete editions are Ultimate and Enterprise, which are missing Office 2007 Communicator and Office 2007 Outlook with Business Contact Manager respectively. And to clarify, Enterprise WILL have Outlook 2007, just without the "Business Contact Manager". While Communicator 2007 is a neat application that lets you collaborate in real time with others on Office projects, I've yet to discover what the "Business Contact Manager" for Outlook is.

 

UPDATE: I know what it is, but...just read for yourself: it is what it's called.

And the crack is real too (not that I'm advocating it's use).

 

You'll notice in that screenshot that I'm using Home Premium as the key included in the "distro" is for Ultimate. I think Ultimate just ain't, so... if you choose to install it without a key at all you get your choice of all the editions. I chose Home Premium to get my feet wet, so to speak, and later on today I'll be installing Business and Business Premium since those are the closest editions to what XP Professional is.

 

It works fine, no issues so far. And Intel did release Vista RTM drivers in the past few days also for the GMA950 cards. I just got done installing those and Aero Glass works great.

And to those people that get all happy-happy-joy-joy thinking I just gave them my key in that screenshot, read what I said above again. I didn't use a key to install Vista - the one shown is a temp one generated by Vista itself and is not usable for activation.

 

If you install without using a key of any kind, Vista will generate a temp one that lasts for 30 days, just like the one in that pic will.

You're getting dangerously close to crossing that line around here that says "no talk about warez and no talk about where to get such things."

 

Hell, so did I in my post if you think about it. Just be careful and tone it down a bit. You already have a post here, no need to spam that same post in another one even though the two threads are similar in info.

This may be a stupid question, but here it is anyway: Is it illegal to get and install a copy of this even with the 30 day limit? Is it okay so long as you respect the 30 day limit and purchase a key or uninstall at that time?

You are still violating copyright. They are just being nice enough to let you try it for 30 days despite this fact.

Thanks sHARD, I figured it was something in the grey area like that. Can't wait to try it out.

 

I'm looking at the "business" version for my laptop, no directx9(upgrade from XPpro)(er,update, i do have directx9, only 64mb video tho...). I'm going to stretch out the life of this thing as long as I can, and the Vista business version may be my best bet if software vendors start shipping "vista only" updates...So if I have to upgrade, that's where I'll be going. I'm still of the mindset that win2k was great, Xp built on that. Linux would look better if it would run all my software :)

 

again, untill os x ships an edition that will work great on my laptop all legal like, Cheers,

Calling this little "hack" a "crack" is an insult to cracks, believe it or not. All it does is convert Vista into an "evaluation edition" aka trial edition and gives it a bit more time to be used. In the end, you'll still get screwed for trying to get around activation, regardless.

 

Vista is a lot different than XP with respects to piracy: if Microsoft wants to simply shut you down, they can if they find out you're running an illegal copy - and they already know the people that are. The only surefire way to use Vista at all (without respects to the legality of it) would be install it on a machine that's never ever connected to the Internet, which basically makes Vista about as useful as dirt in a mudslide.

 

Play around with it, then buy it. If not, run some other OS and stop worrying so much about "getting one over on The Man."

Office 2007 is very nice. New Vista-style Graphics and it loads quickly. included in the Entreprize edition is Access, Excel, Groove?, InfoPath?, OneNote (like a notebook, but on your computer), Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word.

I've yet to install any of this {censored} yet. Although yes, I am puzzled by the fact that x64 is not included on the DVD image [that or I don't see the x64 option]. Runs in VMWare ok; no aero though. That'll have to wait for VPC 2007.

Installation on USB drive not supported. hmmm, do I want to risk hosing my winXP install to try this out? another win for OS X... ugh.

And you can image the partition using true image if you want. It supports creating a windows pe boot disk that allows you to create an image of your windows xp install and back it up. Then u can install vista cleanly by formatting that partition, if it dont work out, just restore the image created by true image. Not a big deal.

The WinBeta release contains both 32 & 64 bits editions.

 

I've heard that that version is a fake, and also heard that x64 is not yet available even on MSDN (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Heard from where? Unless you have proof it is, don't say that. Atleast check at the source @ http://www.nforce.nl/index.php?switchto=nf...o&id=108091

 

I would like to hear your proof though. :blink: Otherwise it's just FUD that you're trying to spread. And no one likes that.
