Video of the Apple TV initial setup

Swad

Gizmodo has a short video of a new Apple TV going through the initial setup. For those with "unpacking pr0n" fetishes, feast your eyes.

Even as a poor college student with a 20" TV that I hardly ever watch... I really want one of these...

The only reason I havent purchased one is the fact that that Apple will make that thing ONLY play purchased content. I hate the fact that I cant convert songs I have purchased from iTunes to MP3. If you buy something, you should be able to do what you want with it. AppleTV is a great concept but they should let it sync with your computer and play all types of video formats. They are not the police of content, so why should they care what you're using the Appletv for? Apple is a "hardware company"

I'm fairly certain we'll get some hacks pretty soon that allow most any content to be streamed. But that'll be a battle.

Well, that battle could certainly be won. The people of this site has already scored one huge point against Apple, another 0.1 for the Apple TV couldn't be that hard :ninja:

Just wait and see...

Cool, Apple TV looks interesting.

Does anyone here have one? Does it come with a setup CD?

If it does, and you have one, please get in touch.

Cheers,

Josh

I don't think apple would care if it got hacked. Steve jobs has already spoken out about protecting music. Doing this was probably something the music industry wanted so apple did and I wouldn't expect apple to be against it getting hacked.

I was actually wondering about that. I don't intend to ever buy a movie of iTunes and if i was going to buy Apple TV it would it would ideally be to stream divx movies. Can this not be done yet? I've never bothered wondering this.

Well, I buy alot of DVD movies and put them onto my hard drive in order to keep them organized. If I cant play this content on an AppltTV then I wont bother getting one. MS or Sony will release a competitor that doesn't limit their hardware soon... I could've sworn that in that video there was a choice for 1080?

I agree Xbox with XBMC blows Apple TV out of the water and at a lot cheaper price, just find a used one for $100 then load the soft mod and save yourself a couple hundred dollars. Also if they ever find away to load XBMC on the Xbox 360 then I will be in media center heaven.

Hmm interesting. I'd be interested in the alleged Mini Mac OS on it. An amazing thing would be if it contained a Mac OS Kernel built for Pentium 3 with no TPM... Wishes... Hopefully a HD image will be available soon so we can all see. :thumbsup_anim:

I'm guessing most people who get these won't want to dismantle their shinies quite yet! (Although I see someone has - appleinsider has links)

Cheers,

Josh
