This release brings the following new features:

* Add a status message that your personal contacts can see

* Share what you are listening to in iTunes with your personal contacts

* Create, send, and receive custom emoticons with personal contacts

* Send and receive custom animated emoticons with personal contacts

* Search for conversation histories using Spotlight

* Check the spelling in your instant messages

(Unfortunately audio and video are still not supported).

You can download the new version from here.

What a god damn joke they still have not built support for audio and video.

Why even bother eh? Everyone is god damn hungry so they go and give us half an uncooked potato. No thanks, i'd rather wait until the steak.

Only animating smiley and it's universal binary now? Gosh everybody is waiting for audio and video. They should save the universal and smiley update together with video and audio. Poor Microsoft :)

quote from Mac Mojo about A/V in mac messenger:

"I said in my first blog entry that I’d try to shed light on how feature decisions get made, give you some examples, and address why A/V isn’t in this release.

The short version: we are working on it.

Right now, Windows Live Messenger (WLM) and Live Communications Server (LCS), are not quite in sync on their audio and video technologies. But, they are on a path to join up and move to a shared protocol in upcoming releases. Rather than write two sets of code only to have to throw one away in the coming months, we’re writing that common protocol for the Mac, and as we all converge we’ll have A/V in Messenger for Mac*."
