Core 2 Duo Macbook released

Specs are not the same as previous models.

The low-end one is the same but with C2D.

The high-end white/black get more memory, bigger hard drives, and DL superdrives, for the same money.

Now the Black one is not being priced for just Black, you get a larger (120gig) hard drive over the White model. OK, so $50 for the Black.

I'm just wondering if they have 802.11n Airport cards in them as well :-)

I just ordered a black one. Estimated delivery date is Nov 22nd to Dec 01. Can't wait!!

Refurbed Core Duo (original) MacBooks are now dirt cheap in the Apple Store:

White (low), White (mid) and Black are now $899, $999, and $1099 respectively.

Well, by specs I meant the parts are similar to the older model, even if the prices are different. I'll rephrase it.

I'd really like to buy one of those, but first I want to hear user's opinion...

I'm wondering if these new-gen MacBooks are affected by the same problems as the CD ones (overheating and loud vents).

Well it looks like it's a nice machine. It's a pity that the GPU's the same though.

Because of their insane drop in price, I might pick up a black Macbook now and put a gb if ram in it.

Personally I can live without the increased e-{censored} size that comes with the C2D, the only other advantage is dual layer SuperDrive (which I would have used at one point for PS2 games, but I have a HDLoader now) and the extra ram, which can easily be added.

Still, glad to see they released it before the end of the year.

I've been holding off buying a Macbook for this. Now I just gotta convince my dad that I WILL be paying him back for it and it'll finally be MINE. ALL MINE!!!! *evil laugh*

What pisses me off is that they still aren't using x3000 video. If they implement that, man, I'd buy it in a heart beat.

Damn finally I can buy my first mac I was waiting for the macbook to get this upgrade fantastic think I will order it tomorrow have to convince my dad first though

Well, I'll add the new Core 2 Duo Macbook to the iMacs 17 inches and the Mac Pro as the good value for money offerings from Apple. I am not including the black one, though: with Eur 1,519 you can buy a laptop with specs comparable to the Macbook Pro.

i was planning to get one but i opted and bought an alienware sentia m3450 and it has the same specs as the $1299 white macbook except it doesnt have bluetooth and it has an extra inch to the screen its 14.3" and it only starts at $949 and after the 8 hours i had it before i had to rma it for keyboard and power button problems, the best part is it never got hot! not even anything over 70 degrees? its super speedy......now to wait and get it back before everyone starts getting thier macbooks!

I'm glad to see the lines seem to be dropping the 512MB RAM standard...

1G should have been the minimum for quite some time now.

Well I'd have to say this is the first News post from this site that I'm not excited about, and quite honestly I wish I never heard. I don't mind the Core2Duo upgrade. I along with every other person on this sight knew that was coming. I can't believe the minimum specs of this. 1GB of ram and 100GB HD for $1,500? I think it's fair to say being patient always pays off. Hmmm :/

Alienware are quite expensive, so personally I don't see why buy one instead of a Mac, at least here in Europe.

welcome to the club. i have a first rev high end mbp, so i missed out on the c2d AND the processor upgrade AND the ram upgrade AND the hard drive upgrade. take a breath and realize that you have a mac. and 64 bit wont be useful for awhile(at least for me). w00t for mobile dual boot pwnage! it doesnt matter too much to me that i couldve waited.

I know this is a silly question but an answer would really be helpfully.

What makes the new MacBooks Core2Duos 25% faster than their respected earlier models?

The processors are still 1.83Ghz, 2.0Ghz and 2.0Ghz.

Does it have anything to do with the 64-bit processors? But I though since Tiger was 32-bit and only Leopard ( when released) is to be 64-bit. Doesn't that mean it wouldn't make any use of this advancement unless you upgrade to Leopard when it's released?

Basically what makes the Core 2 Duo different from the Core Duo (except the number 2 in the middle)?

there are many differences yet what you are basing you opinion is the frequency of the processors which has been disproved. The core 2 can complete the same instructions in one clock cycle while core duo do it in 2 cycles. There are many obscure yet significant differences. Plus core 2 duos use sse4 while core duo are stuck at sse3 instruction sets.

the core2duo 2.0ghz and up have 4mb L2 cache opposed to coreduo's having 2mb L2 cache max.

The Core 2 Duos are also the first Intel processors to feature LaGrande Technology, Intel's take on Trusted Computing.

That is why I hate them. At least you can tamper with and/or destroy a TPM if it becomes impossible to find a laptop without one. I'm switching to AMD processors because of this alone.
