Black iMacs Soon?

Colonel

After the introduction of the black MacBook last May, speculation began that the other Macs in the Apple product lineup might also be seeing black editions. Well, the rumor mill is still a 'churning, cranking out rumors of a new black (exclusively 24-inch) iMac model somewhere in the works. MacScoop has more info on the "Blackintosh" rumor:

The only specific information MacScoop has recently obtained from sources regarding Apple's forthcoming hardware releases is that a black version of the iMac could make its way with the next update of the company's all-in-one consumer desktop Macs. Sources also told us that - as it is currently the case for the MacBook - the black color could be available only on the high-end 24 inch iMac and possibly the 20 inch as well.

Might this be Steve's next "one more thing?"

ooh i wonder where i can buy a black imac????

of right i can do it HERE :hysterical:

and pay like $1000 for a paint job? No thanks, its bad enough apple does it with the black MB, pass.

i would go for a spectrumish mac. the same color changing idea of http://www.alienware.com/product_detail_pa...ode=SKU-DEFAULT

Instead of worry about colors Apple INC needs to worry about faster GPU and another HD for iMAC as well as 800 FW speeds and another ethernet.

i think it said it would be $450 to send in my MBP for a paintjob. Of course, then there's shipping on top of that. I'll just insure it for 3k then if it's broken i can upgrade to a Core 2 <_<

Ok, consider that if apple offered a custom color choice on it's products you'd be forced to pick a color for your mac. If you like white, go with white. If you like black, red, fuschia, whatever, go with that. When it comes down to it you'd have to choose one, and then color would matter to you. The one statement i don't agree with is that what makes a mac a mac is the white case and that the white case is somehow unique. That may have been true in 1999 but not so much today. Apple cases are sleek and nice, and i love them, but everybody and their mother are copying mac cases these days, or trying to one-up them, so the case definately doesn't make a mac. The color doesn't either. What makes a mac is quality components and a rock solid, innovative OS. The bells and whistles are what make a mac (though not necessarily the graphical ones). The color of the case is, as Ampidire said, 100% subjective to the person buying it. If you love the black, buy the black, if you prefer the white, buy the white. It's just an option. It'll perform exactly the same. I would prefer the black, simply because Macs have been white so long that a new color is refreshing. I find it funny that DiaboliK mentioned the Aero look. My opinion is that Apple MUST come out with a new GUI because they can't let Vista look prettier than OS X. Assuming the rumors of a darker GUI are true, can you imagine how cool it'd look on a black mac? I can't wait to see it. In the meantime, i'm gonna look into sending my MBP to colorware to get it colored jet black. That would be killer =D

I agree with InteliMac Pro. Buying on the basis of color is subjective and everyone has their own tastes and opinions. If Apple were to come out with 24" Black iMac (high-end), people would probably buy just like they buy Black MacBook (high-end).

On my own system, I have White Computer and Black Monitor and I feel they don't look too bad together (especially running Mac OS X!)

I don't bother buying PC's in particular colours. Why? To be honest, I don't really care. If you live in a house with modernist colour themed "Changing Rooms" style, then sure, you can go for a computer that suits your home. But to be honest, if you can afford that, you can afford the extra few hundred bucks to colour-code your computer to match. I, like most normal people in normal houses; tend to have a mismatch of styles somewhat where I didn't get rid of all my furniture when I redid my place. If I was really going to be that fussy, I'd have to spend over $1000 on a new graphics tablet, and well over $3000 getting a custom TabletPC paintjob to suit my house. Then there's replacing the casing on all my 40-odd computers. Really, not worth it.

Alright, I tend to avoid beige if I can these days, but it really doesn't affect me that much. My latest computer purchase is a 12" x 12" Wacom Tablet. It's in beige. Why? Because it cost me £40, not £500.

MacRumors is reporting not to buy anything right now as the whole line might be updated, including a 15.4 Mac Book and the iMACS with a dual Xeon and stuff like that. I would like to see a iMAC with two (2) HD's. That would be sweet.
