Apple TV HD image makes the rounds...

Swad

Well, that didn't take long. After hearing many Apple TV users clamoring for a hard drive image to dissect and toy with, a torrent of one was released today. Here are the accompanying notes:

This is a slightly-modded AppleTV dmg file of all three partitions, for use when you screw up your own modding - you can restore to this one.

It has a startup script disabling the firewall, with ARD and sshd running. (ssh -1 frontrow@your.appletv.ip, password frontrow). It's pre-set for 720p.

We obviously can't confirm the contents of this image, nor do we encourage the theft itself, but... hey... torrented stolen files are always interesting if nothing else, right? :)

Keep up with the latest Apple TV developments in our new Apple TV Forum!

Would it not be possible to run this in vmware or something? sorry...noob alert...woot 1st post

Not as is, no. It's almost an exact dump of the aTV's HDD...thus, you'll still have things like EFI, mach_kernel, etc to edit/modify before having any hope of a native boot, let alone in Vmware.

I think the best bet at the moment is taking an existing OSx86 install, and slowly adding in components from there.

The DMG is is the stripped out version of OS X right? If it is, someone should Spotlight it and see what kind of goodies there are, like themes or other Leopard based goodness :). That would be funny if a message popped up saying. "Congrats, you found the secret features, dont tell Microsoft, please?"

Yeah, that seems very odd. Perhaps it's a DMG of one of the three partitions on the AppleTV HDD?

here what i found out for differences:

demonoid dmg: only osboot image

oink dmg: osboot image and media image

so the oink image is alittle more complete than the demonoid image.

Interesting... So what kind of stuff is included on the media image?

an itunesprefs.plist, a media library file and a media files folder with the folders f00 to f99 all empty

EDIT: Nevermind, searched for it using the log. What's the difference between the two?

The one from Demonoid is actually uploaded onto OiNK as well.

And that takes up 300MB?

yes it wierd, i cant seem to burn the oink image either (the 477mb one) it says it needs 37.79gb of space to burn.....

gonna try the demonoid image.

BTW- also in the media img theres and scratch folder taking up 80mb that seems to have the users and settings for the appletv

im gonna try a disk image backup to a new partition and see how that works since i cant burn it to disk...

(yes i do know how to make it bootable ;))
