That's pretty funny. It is interesting how they were using Windows, but at the same time that's one reason why they're the dominant OS.

Apple knows that the company they have making iPods uses Windows, it's their fault and they know about viruses and worms.

Windows is the mainstream and most used operating system, so hackers target it. No one writes viruses for Mac OS X or Linux as they are both based on Unix and noone wants to hurt Unix.

It's all part of a conspiracy to get Windows users to switch to OS X. Either use the iPod with a Mac or risk your Windows computer getting FUBAR.

i don't' think apple should be using this as an opportunity to bash on windows. truth is they screwed up, they should have just admitted it and moved on. now they just come off as ignorant. osx may not be vunerable to the virus, but 99.9% of the focus of virus writers is on windows basically because they have the enormous market share in the os market. plus, apple should tell their contractors not to let employess surf for porn on company systems. especially windows systems....

Well, the machines were using Windows. The computer caught a virus. The virus in this case spreads via storage mediums, iPods included. So there is a small (SMALL) amount of blame to Windows and a LARGE amount of blame to the company putting the firmware on the iPods for being stupid.

First off, I don't remember it ever happening to Creative, but it's the fault of the sweatshop there. Substandard working conditions will elad to substandard products, but unfortunately, we buy everything from sweatshops now, so most of everything is substandard quality.

As to the "this ain't funny" thing, no it isn't funny, but nothing was intentional. It's different than a MacAddict disk from several years ago that carried a (Classic) Mac virus that was intentionally put on there. There is a difference, but it in no way makes things better for those that were infected by their iPods.

That make me a hypocrite? Nope, just fair and balanced. And for real, not the Fox News version.

And just a note, how are MP3 players hyped? If you want thousands of songs to go with you in a small form factor, it's useful. If you don't, it's not. It's far from hype, it's just another useful gadget.

Also, I think when any major company {censored}s up it's funny. It's good to know even a streamlined money making machine is only mortal.

Kewl, kewl, I just hope that it is realized that this type of thing seems to be easily tolerated by Apple's community (of which I am also a part of), but let it have been MS (and yeah they do some jacked up {censored} too, believe me, I'd know) and everyone would of yelled bloody murder. I guess I went a lil off the chart, but I'm tired of these companies (ALL OF THEM) not being held accountable for their serious screw ups, especially ones that could possibly be catastrophic if the right amont of computers are affected/infected by those users that are not as technically savy as you and I. I guess I'd hoped that when I decided to get my mac that I was becomming a part of something "different", but as of late all I see is more of the same..............

Everyone place the blame where it is. Apple should be ashamed for trying to blame windows for their failure with quality control. And yes it is their fault. They decide how it is manufactured. Therefore they can be held responsible when it goes wrong. This wouldn't have been nearly as bad for apple if they had done the same thing mcdonalds did when it happened to them.

Apple is very quick in responding to this issue. that affects 1% of the recent iPod sold.. but on RANDOM SHUTDOWN...per my readings affects atleast 10%.... there are still need to acknowledged fully with detail on the issue... not just letting it brought for repair and will come again in the future... its random..
