Apple Media Event

Once again, it is time for us to wait quietly as Mr Jobs steps up for another Stevenote!

The event starts 10am Pacific time (that's 1pm Eastern and 6pm UK time).

Major rumors from this event are focused mainly around the iPod - which is in serious need of an update, as the original hard-drive based video playing iPods came out in October 2005. Admittedly, they have had some serious software improvements and slight hardware updates, but the iPod is starting to show its age. The iPod is expected to get at least a storage boost this time round. So speculation includes wi-fi, flash based storage and even over the air downloads. The feature we are most likely to see (let's face it, we've wanted this for a while) is a wide screen, perhaps with multi touch technology.

In the iPod Nano corner, there is an expected storage boost and perhaps even the inclusion of video play back, as well as new colours.

Other rumors include either the discontinuation or the update of the iPod Hi-fi and an iPhone ring-tone service on the iTunes Store.

It's possible that the new iPods could run OS X, much like the iPhone.

You can read the event on Engadget's live blog as Steve talks here. MacRumours also has a great live page, as well as links to all the other major sites.

Might be a bit to late to get the requests to Apple, but what do you want to see today? :)

iPod Classic? wtf?

EDIT: Classic and Touch. I'm guessing classic is for people who need buckets of storage, and touch is going to be flash-only.

EDIT: Heehee, these ipods kinda knock the Zune into a {censored} hat, dont they?

Well, it is ALMOST perfect. .99 a ringtone? I think it is illegal to charge twice for something. Oh well, people will hack this.

The ipods. My take:

New Nanos: Nice, cheap, with bells and whistles. Good stuff.

New iPod Classics: More of the same, but great for music lovers.

iPod Touch: Great, but with the storage, it sucks.

Hear me out on the iPod Touch. iPod, touch screen, 3.5 inch widescreen, safari (not the best browser), itunes wifi, wifi, etc is great. It is killer, but 8 and 16 gigs? PATHETIC Steve!! He is so damn worried about "Look how thin it is!" and the applause of the storage in the iPod Touch was not so great. People don't' care about the thin nature of the product if they can't get a decent amount of storage. Plus look at this:

iPhone 8 gig model: $399

iPod Touch 16 gig model: $399

So gut the phone, put 8 gigs of flash memory and it is worth the same? I think not.

Why not? One is a song. The other is a ringtone. Two separate things, for two separate purposes. This is not brain surgery :)

But not to worry, I'm sure someone will make a conversion program for it.

What's the big deal about ringtones for $0.99? I've been making my own ringtones for ages. If you're a mac, er- I mean OSX user, just chop that $hit up in Garageband and put it on your phone. Simple! If that's too much hassle for you than you should value all the work you save for just $0.99 :)

You also can go to VCast instead where you can pay $1.99 for a ringtone that expires after a year. lol

The ringtone idea is plain stupid. If you already own a song then you should not have to pay extra to turn it into a ringtone. These people just keep crapping out new ideas.

And the iPods aren't bad. I like the touch one. 8 & 16 GB are small but tbg i dont need a lot of space. But would have been nice if there were for example 10 & 20 or 20 and 30GBs.
