6th Gen iPod Around the Corner. Interface Videos!

Takuro

For months it's been speculated that Apple iPod line would get revamped some time after the iPhone's launch. Now many believe new iPods may be arriving as soon as early-mid August. For a while, most sources hinted at a possible touchscreen interface, but new leaks are beginning to prove otherwise.

MacRumors has exclusively grabbed what may be the first video captures of the 6th generation iPod user interface. If their source is authentic, the videos lead one to expect a forthcoming iPod with a standard 4:3 screen and clickwheel (contrary to previous reports of a large wide-aspect screen and virtual clicker.)

Click here to check out the videos.

Taking visual cues from the iPhone, the supposed new iPod interface offers smoother transitions and menu options. A new split-screen view enhances media browsing. CoverFlow may actually still be a viable possibility.

Although it cannot yet be confirmed if this is in fact how the 6G iPod's UI will look, there's one thing that cannot be denied: It's pretty darn convincing.

Update: As of this morning the Apple legal team requested that MacRumors remove their videos. It seems this is much more than a simple mock-up. Special thanks to Zimmoframe for finding a video mirror on YouTube.

YouTube video link is down as well, leading one to think it was legit (since Apple wants it down so badly)!

Anyone have another link?

I don't know about this one. The interface is nothing revolutionary or anything. What's odd is that Apple is so sensitive about this...hence why it was taken down on most sites.

Don't sweat it. It wasn't that great. At all.

So... MacJordan... is that a play on Michael Jordan? Cuz if so, kudos. Well that's about all the value i have left for this supposed 6th Gen iPod interface ;) That and I've had 4 hours of sleep in the last 36. My brain isn't quite up to par ATM.

I mean if Apple is staying with 4:3 aspect, they are going to not make alot on these. People can get an iphone and have more coolness. I don't know, nothing is solid/written in stone, but I would sell my Archos and get an ipod the size of the iphone, just hard drive in there and touch screen. I would not care about wifi. *sigh* Have to wait and see.

Just another thought:

If we are to believe this rumor, we should assume something about it, other than the UI, HAS to change. Otherwise, this is just a refresh, and Apple needs some kind of excuse that they have a 'new' ipod.

So looking at the ThinkSecret.com page about this, I see they claim it will have "about an inch" shaved off vertically. Now, everyone, take your rulers. If the border around the iPod remains the same, we're looking more at "half an inch" with the clickwheel and screen staying the same, and the iPod will look incredibly squished.

I don't believe Apple could ever release such a machine so hideous.

Plus this would discredit the rumor altogether. So even if it is more-or-less the same thing, these rumors don't have their facts straight...yet.

Who gives a rat's ass about it being about an inch less thick? I mean seriously, who?

In terms of functionality, there are players out there that don't leave a scrap whole of the iPod: bigger screen, more codecs supported, ...

But hey, it's about an inch less thick, so let's all chuck out our old iPods and go buy a new one.

What the bloody hell are they thinking at Apple o_O

If this is true, they're essentially pulling the same {censored} they did last year and there's gonna be a small riot >_>

Anyone have another link?

nice to see you back swad.

and yes this all does point towards it being legit, or at least based in truith, but apples lawyers are quite..... uh..... intense(?) so it may just be because its "said" to be part of ipod 6g

this ipod also makes sense because it could be retrofitted to the 5.5g ipods quite easily, and the 2g nanos etc...

i guess well all just wait and see :)

and Soliber, the thinness of the 30gb 5.5g ipod sold me on it ;) and razrs, they sell because theyre thin and they have hype, just like apple products, my dads work people have razrs, guess what, you cant hear em! its funny (i was about to until i tried one...)

but long story short its all a package, the looks, and teh thinness, they sell probably more than codecs and whatnot, because the majority of people (not me, not you, not most people here) dont know WHAT a codec is, let alone care.... (or think that it doesnt matter)

and yes there are others, but they arnt the ipod, they dont have the clickwheel, they dont have the "look", they dont have the apple on the back.... so they wont do as well, ipod is synonymous with portable mp3 players..... its like saying the same thing.... sure its bs, but im not gonna upgrade ;)

and they dont wanna canibalize teh iphone sales....

but theyre soar for an update at the same time.

Yeah ok, granted, aesthetics is important, but the iPod is beautifull as it is, who are you gonna win over by fiddling some more with its proportions?

There are much bigger issues that need to be adressed with the iPod than mere aesthetics >_>

I can actually see them making the ipod shorter to make it easier to hold sideways. Less weight hanging means that an ipod can be held sideways from the edge with one hand, easily, but why would you want to do that...

Ah, taking pictures and videos. Its all so clear now. They do some nice upgrades to the interface that can be adapted to the 5.5g, and at the same time, add a camera for taking quick 2 megapixel snaps of ur friends and videos of that crazy skateboard trick to upload to youtube. 6g owners get a cool new camera, and 5.5g owners get the interface upgrades. its win/win for everyone, except u poor 5g users. They didnt give you/us the search function (or did they, i havent had my 5g for a a few months), so im sure a new interface is a no-go.

By shortening the ipod you give it a more "camera inspired" height to width ratio, when its sideways. Turn it back up and its still and ipod with the signature wheel and screen.
