Synthology
I'm strictly Audio based, so Logic Pro, Reason and Live are essential. So far, so great: AMD 64 4000+ 2 GB 3200 RAM LG DVD Burner - Combo Drive IDE PATA WD 160GB Gigabyte SLI MB Nvidia Chipset Nvidia GForce 7600 GT OC - Macvidia crashes my system (boot.plist resolution set to 1280x1024x32) USB 2.0 Card - Working AC97 Audio - Working Running 10.4.7 (Inital install 10.4.6 JaS) Logic Pro 7.2.2 - Working Great Plug-in List: (All Universal Binary) Izotope - pHATmatik Pro, Ozone 3, Spectron, Trash, iDrum Linplug RMIV 4.1.3 Reason 3.0.5 - Working Great Ableton Live 5.2 - Working Great MIDI - AXIOM 61 Oxygen 8 (Old Version) Firewire 410 That's all I have tested so far. Looking forward to testing Stylus RMX on it, but I don't want to waste a legitimate registration on an AMD rig. My Plans are to build an Intel Chipset Conroe System with an ATI X1300, 4x 250GB SATA drives and run dual 20" Cinema Displays. Which I do own because I am looking to replace my Dual G5 2.5gHz. For the record: The AMD 4000+ feels snappier and a bit more number crunchier than the Dual G5. Oh yeah, and everything except my Maxtor Ultra 133 Controller card is working perfectly. I'll never see an Apple Store the same again. Needed to install {censored} to get the video working at correct res, still no QE/CI yet, and probably never will be for the X200. Sound worked straight away. Had to remove some networking kexts and install new ones for the RTL8319. Wireless works under the airport drivers apparently, however mine doesn't as it keeps switching interfaces and it thinks its an ethernet interface... USB works, except my external HD won't mount. The enclosure shows up in the USB list, but the hd doesn't show up with it and it doesn't mount. .ark
JaS 10.4.8 ( both patches ) Asus A8N-SLI Premium Athlon64 X2 3800+ 1GB Corsair XMS 2-2-2-2 Asus GeForce 7900 GT ( works perfectly ) Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS ( does not work at all ) Onboard nforce audio (realtek ACL580 AC97) recognized but no sound. Dell 2405FWP. I have to mention that the way my hard drives are set up, I only had SATA drives to begin with. When OSX wouldn't install, I put in a normal PATA disk- and then every windows installation broke ( Windows 2000, Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista). Evidentially (with my setup) Windows hard mounts the first PATA drive and tries to boot from it, and the installers require write-access to it as well. My solution was to wipe osx and reserve the first 6GB or so for that. This is my Frankenstein system This system works flawlessly ( Xcode, Adobe Applications, etc ) except for the complete lack of sound. If anybody could point me in the right direction for that I'd truly appreciate it- I've been searching for about 4 days now. And have tried 4 driver modifications with no luck. vptready
Hi, I am very very new at this, so new I haven't even tried installing yet because of lack of hardware. I was wondering about the following setup: MotherboarD: ASUS M2N-SLI DeLuxe (nForce 570 SLI - AM2) CPU: AMD Athlon 5600++ X2 RAM: DDR2-800 Kingston Hyper-X HDD: SATA (I still have some IDE harddrives (7 of them) but I would like to go with SATA. GPU: ATI x700 Pro (for now) I might switch to 1950XT in a while but I am awaiting the price drop because the new 2xxx series have come out. Will this setup work or will I have some trouble? What version of OSX would I need to run? I am a total noob, I don't even know how to use the linux terminal (maybe someone knows a good tutorial?) , but I am very very very experienced with computer in general, just stuck to Windows so don't know anything about linux. Thanks A starting hackintosher. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9689-amd-systems/page/4/#findComment-366042 Share on other sites
naquaada
The board seems not to be so ideal for OSx86. I searched the Asus website for more information, but they don't have very much information about the onboard chips. I have an Asus A8N-SLI Premium (Socket 939), a friend has a M2N4-SLI (AM2) board. Both have nForce 4, same SATA and Audio, but a lightly different ethernet bridge, so ethernet isn't working. The nForce 570 chipset isn't well supported, I don't know if SATA works at all. I use IDE for OSX, it is fast enough (booting <30 sec.) If you want to use your old IDE HDs on SATA, try an SATA-2-IDE-Adapter. But it's no SATA-2 speed, of course. You're using a dual core CPU, so you may have stuttering problems. It should be eliminated/reduced if the CPU multiplier is set to a .5 value (11.5 instead of 12). But not all boards support this in BIOS. The 2nd way is to add the option cpus=1 in apple.com.boot.plist, so one cpu is deactivated. A good gfx card is the Gigabyte Radeon X1600 Pro SilentPipe II, it is fast and very easy to patch. It has a heatpipe, so it is very quiet. But I don't know the gaming abilities, I'm no gamer at all. The card is about 80 Eur in ebay. Another problem is getting the correct image: All 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 images have a bug in the Disk Utility function, it is a system-internal problem an not the disk utility itself. All versions after 10.4.7 have no more PCI support, so a PCI network card won't work. The other images have a lot of more problems. I'm using myzars 10.4.6 image and his 10.4.7 update, but they are very hard to find. I think the possibly best AMD boards for OSx86 are the Asus A8N-SLI series, Socket 939. All components are supported, Dual-LAN, SATA, SiliconImage SATA, Firewire, 6ch-Audio, USB etc. Me and my friends using 6 A8N-SLI Premium, one A8N-SLI Deluxe and one A8N-SLI SE. All equipped with the Gigabyte X1600Pro SilentPipe 2. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/9689-amd-systems/page/4/#findComment-366052 Share on other sites
vptready
Great advise thanks. I have the following right now (the parts describe were upgrade parts): ASUS A8N-E (non SLI) (compared the stats, pretty much the same on asus.com) AMD 3800+ X2 ATI Radeon x700 pro (thinking of getting the sapphire 1950XT as said before) 7 IDE drives, but want to switch to SATA, etc Would that work well with OSX? From what you said it should. That will allow me to try before upgrading, that would be great. naquaada
Yeah, the A8N-E seems to be better. The SLI function is only neccessary if you have two nVidia cards running simultaneously. I got some questions from others, so here are the drivers for the A8N series (or other nForce 3/4 boards) and the t*rren*s for the myzar installation images. But especcially the 10.4.7 update isn't well seeded. >Link me up!< Some Installing instructions are included. Greetings from the Other Side! naquaada
Try this link for some docs. The OSx86_iGuide is old, but it's a very safe installation method. Use PrintAnApple.pdf for printing a nice shaded Apple logo for your Hackintosh. Best use transparent self-adhessive foil for it. Looks great if you have a G5-style case. GreetinX from the other Side! amekzz
****************EDIT******************* Well, not everything is THAT easy, right? I've encountered a problem... after I install this .kext and restart, my SATA drive appears and everything seems fine. When I restart again, my SATA drive is invisible again and an warning appears: "This file 'AppleNForceATA.kext' was installed incorrectly. Contact the developer bla bla bla.". Well, I will try to figure this out tomorrow. Just the warning, maybe it won't happen to everybody. Mauricio ****************EDIT******************* Hello friends... Mauricio here, This is what I know... first my specs: AMD Athlon 3200 64Bits Gigabyte G8N-SLI 2x1Gigs DDR400 120Gigs IDE 160Gigs SATAII eVGA GeForce 7600GTCO I started installing the Mac OS X JAS 10.4.8 on my IDE HD. All installed alright and my PCI-Express card was reconized and fully operational. Sound onboard to. The only problem was that my SATAII HD wasn't visible. After a lot of searches, I found the way to make it visible. First download this file: AppleNForceATA.kext download This is the third revision of the file, that I've downloaded from BerliOS Developer https://developer.berlios.de/project/showfi...elease_id=12127 . On his site there is too the first rev. file. After downloading and unziping, copy the AppleNForceATA.kext to the directory: SYSTEM (this is the name of the partition that has my OS installed)\SYSTEM (the folder SYSTEM)\Library\Extensions\ That's it. Restart and you will see that your SATA drivers are been visible. Maybe if we can put this .kext in the installing DVD of the OS, maybe we can install it direct on SATA drives. Mauricio P.S.: When I first tried to install MAC OS X, I've tried to install on my SATA HD. It installed fine, but when restarted and started to boot, it would freeze in the gray screen of loading and never get out of there. Installing on IDE solved that.
