I've tried to boot my 780G (with a Phenom 9550) from my external HD that has Zephy's 10.5.2 (MBR EFI 9.2 kernel) - it won't even load the kernel before it restarts. I haven't played with it other than that though... I imagine it's going to take some "fiddling".

I have another 780G with a A64 X2 4200+, but I haven't tried with that yet - I will in the next few days. I want to see if it's the Phenom or the chipset 10.5.2 hates... But, I've seen a few guys with Phenom installs, haven't I? My 690G will boot and run 10.5.2...

OK, I have the Gigabyte MA-GA78GM-S2H 780G MB in 2 computers at my house. One has a Phenom 9550, the other is using an A64 X2 4200+. They're both similar setups otherwise (similar HD's, the same LG GGC-H20L blue disc player/DVD+-RW).

I have OSx86 installed on an external USB hard drive - it's got Zephyroth 10.5.2 with the 9.2 kernel. It's also got the SB600 .kexts and it boots up on my 690G motherboard just fine. Like I said above, plugging it into the Phenom build restarts the computer as the kernel is loading - no joy.

I used it to boot the 780G with the X2 4200+ and it booted right into the OSX Desktop! Once there, it recognized an internal PATA hard drive but not the SATA HD or DVD. The LAN adapter was working and I have no doubt the ALC889a sound codec will also work - it does on the 690G board. The onboard HD3200 GPU may or may not - I didn't have any ATi .kexts... But it's a step in the right direction.

I am running on MA-GA78GM-S2H with a 64 X2 Brisbane 4800+ using onboard GPU. From what I have tried with Kalyway's 10.5.2, I have gotten osx to install, but it freezes during boot for probably more than a number of reasons. (GPU drivers etc.) It doesn't boot with the -x -f flags either. If you are interested, heres what you have to do:

1. Make sure you are not using any SATA drives. That includes HDD, and any disc drives.

2. Configure using an IDE HDD, on IDE channel 0 with the HDD as primary master and the disc drive as slave.

3. Go into BIOS and disable the AHCI or SATA channels.

You should be able to boot into the installer. From what I can tell from the boot process is that there is no QE support for the onboard ATI graphics.

I haven't tried going any further, but I have read somewhere that it DOES boot into desktop with a pre-existing install on a 690 chipset or a fresh install using 10.5.1 kernel.

Yup, works fine... (just NOT the IGP!)

I've got 2 installs running on 780G motherboards (Gigabyte GA-MA78GM S2H v1.0 and v1.1). One with a Phenom 9550 and one with an A64 X2 2.3GHz. Easiest to use AHCI for your SATA hard drives and Chameleon for EFi. You CAN'T use PC_EFi v8 with a Phenom (or any install distro that uses it!). LawlessPPC has a 10.5.4 Phenom distro now. I used Zephyroth 10.5.1 on my Phenom board, then added Chameleon EFi, then updated to 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 using Zephyroth's ASU 0.5... I used Leo4all v4.1 for AMD on my Athlon64 X2 install (PC_EFi only applies to Phenom CPU's).

The onboard LAN works OOTB (the RTL8111 will use the same "driver" as the RTL8169) and the onboard ALC889a audio works with the 889 driver on the Leo4all installer. No problems with USB or 1394a either...

hi, i had my GA-MA78G-DS3H mobo and AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600 with 2GB DDR2 ram today and installed leopard from kalyway's dvd. No problems even i used sata HDD and sata DVDRW. Works perfectly except integrated ATI HD3200 graphics card and ALC889A soundcard. i hope i'll find solutions for these.

btw, InsanelyMac forum is my best guide for installing Leo on my PC. Never had a chance to thank you guyz. You are great!

Happy to report that I have an Abit A-N78HD (780g chipset), and with the exception of SATA not being recognized, and audio (connected as AC97, still no go), all is finally working great.

I did have an issue with the onboard Lan, but Fry's had an Airlink 101 ASOHORL PCI adapter for $4 that has a Realtek chipset. Fry's is about 5 miles away, so cheap fix, as opposed to going all Intel to get Mac Love.

Anyone have a solution for getting at least AC97 up and running on this chipset?

Very stable board, btw. Just remember to keep your receipt. Abit won't do an RMA without proof of purchase.

Now, if someone could tweak the nVidia 9600GT SSC to work in OS X, I'd be happier than a polar bear with its ass on fire.

*UPDATE*: Managed to get SATA fully functional by using BartPE to format the drives as FAT32, then enable AHCI in the IDE/SATA settings area (under RAID). All SATA drives are now 100% operational and in use at this time.

Audio, anyone? (RealTek on the 780g)

A little scared to add sound kexts and screw up a perfectly good Hackintosh.

Also, if anyone happens to figure a fix for the 9600gt being enabled, please give me a shout.
