Blizzard's help to Addiction

I have heard so many times that WoW addiction is NOT Blizzard's fault, that the blame lies with the users who cannot control their behavior. Now this is true. I am not denying that it is the addict's fault that they are addicted, but could it be too much to ask to help them out? In the end it all boils down to the fact that Blizzard makes millions off of the addicts and frankly if the game wasn't so addictive they wouldn't make so much money. ANYWAYS, the point of this topic is to say what could Blizzard do to make WoW not as addictive so that if we were in a perfect world where Blizzard would do these things, people would not divorce, got to jail, or lose opportunities for it.

Some of my ideas:

>Make leveling group oriented. Take away the idea of the "grind" to 70. Make it so that you can group with people and aren't alone (except for instances and such). It is an online game isn't it?

>Take away "Warcraft Stories." Reading those I have become more angry and humored than ever before. These stories are really sweet and great until you got 2 months later when the whole family is addicted to the game..... (actually this suggestion was just a personal rant so ignore it.)

Okay so I really only had 1 idea but it's 2 in the morning and half my brain is asleep.

Now for your ideas.

Up to my experience(years and years of EQ, UO and RO but also tested many others), WoW is the less solo-grind oriented MMORPG. That's what made me became 'addicted' to WoW xD. With my main (L70 Lock) I never did any quest that wasn't a dungeon quest or a class/profession quest since lv 22~. Also, leveling to 70 isn't a big part of the game from my PoV, the better and biggest part comes once you've dinged 70.

True that, but what are some other things they could do to reduce addiction?

I heard someone say take away monthly fees so people wouldn't feel obligated to play, but monthly fees weren't really what addicted me.

its a business, why should they do anything. as far as addictions go, this is very very minor, maybe you should focus on issues like drugs, alcohol or even television that requires absolutely no interaction/brain function.

I was a heavy WoW player. Started out due to mates playing and then played for 2.5-3yrs (can't remember exactly). But played dam hard from being in a guild raiding all week and all weekend I know what you mean by addiction. I came back from a short break and played TBC which the guild slowed down a fair bit and I quit and began to pvp with a few friends. That was short lived and I started to raid again and needed up taking off where I left off pre TBC.

Is the game a addiction? No, its a habit from my experience people with drug, alcohol etc..problems its chemical based. With WoW you think you are going to miss out on 'some thing' if you don't play and playing part time is a waste of time because you want to beat people to the best loot gold can't buy.

When I was going to study I gave it up and the only way for me to quit was to sell my account and I did. Its the best thing I have done for me, family and friends. I still check up on my guild day to day to see if Illidan is down yet.

Do I miss it? Yes

Will I return? No

Should Blizzard help you quit? No

Its your problem. If you find you have a problem just uninstall and put the game in a dark place in your cupboard.

This is sorta like if we were in a perfect world, what would Blizzard do...... I mean they would never do that, but still. I found that the addiction was that I HAD to get on, if I didn't I was either missing out on something or was gonna get behind and I HAD to get to 70 to raid.

THank you slow questing in Outlands......

Business is a different from all kind of fields. As it requires talent and communication skills. So that people can be well attracted towards our products. Now people are well concentrating on businesses rather than doing jobs. As this is due to global economy crisis. So people who lost their jobs in this process can get suggestions from business forum. As it could well them with out facing any kind of risk.

couple things:

WoW is a solo game until 80, if you want to level up the fastest.

instance grinding can be done, but its no where near as fast as having an organized system to doing your quests, assuming you know what you're doing and complete quests quickly.

WoW can be addictive, but usually only to people who don't have anything better to do. When i was in college i played a ton of WoW during the week. now that i'm working full time again, when i get home the last thing i think about doing is jumping on a computer game.

WoW looses it's effect after a while. when it was first released in 2004 it was such an interesting game. everyone was starting at the same point, and they there was tons of unexplored content. then right when people started getting bored they released Burning Crusade. once they released Wrath of the Lich King... players were used to the same routine and getting kind of bored. the current population is mostly new people who have never tried the game before.

no one really sticks around forever in these games, it's just the nature of MMOs. even if you're at the top of the game, doing PVE or PVP it tends to wear off after a certain point. constantly replacing epics with other epics is only fun for so long. no one raids player cities or does anything fun anymore. theres such a huge gap in gear, that the only people who want to do that kind of activity are people who have top-notch gear.

WoW's numbers will die out, not to the fault of Blizzard... but because it's an MMO and that's what MMOs do... they die off.

As someone else said, leveling is hardly a challenge. I leveled a hunter in 10 days of game (some people do it even faster) without running a single dungeon.

When leveling you play and stop playing when you want, it's not like dungeons/raiding were you have to be present at a specific time for a certain length of time. The game really starts when you are 80, before it's only a waste of time really...

What can you do, as in any games you have to play a lot to beat the game, the fact that the game is multiplayer only makes things more complicated.

If Blizzard makes the game too easy (like WOTLK heroics) the hardcore gamers complain, if it is too hard the casual gamers complain...

You can play WOW any way you want, you choose what you want to do, if you want to play less then you have to accept you will have less gear and not be so attractive for raids etc...If you play a lot you have to give up some of your real life activities.

Lately I don't play as much and I am content with the gear I have even though it's not the best, I also have to accept that my guild might choose other players that play more than I do for dungeons and raids.

Man, you took the words right outta my mouth. Geeks, grow up and go outside for pete's sake! I dunno, go surfing, skating, partying (make out with girls), meet your friends (not the WoW addicted geeks) and LIVE! I mean, it's OK to play a silly game once in a while, but being outside is just so much better. Go ahead, try it!

Cheers.
