David Leonard
THIS IS FOR ANYONE WITH A ATI RADEON HD 2600 PRO (512 MB) WITH THE BLUE SCREEN BLACK MOUSE PROBLEM Now that I have your attention, Do everything as normal until you get your problem, when the mouse first shows up, wait about 10 Full seconds. This allows the computer to startup in full (Absolutely required, or you will not get video and have to restart) Then put the computer into Sleep by hitting the power button once on the computer. (This is the tricky part) Give it about a second and hit it again. I am not exactly sure on this, but I have a Acer AL2002W and I wait for it to say No DVI Signal, and then immediately press it after that. Video will come back, and, all your USB devices will restart. You have video. Known Problems, every once and a while, if I do it wrong, my wallpaper does not work for that session, it just stays blue, but everything still works. Also, the driver likes to go Poof after several hours of non use. I have sleep and Display sleep disabled, along with screensaver. This is all a hassle, and until an update is released, we have to deal with it. Unfortunately D:
chiliMac
The original post explicitly mentions Leo versions 10.5.1 & 10.5.2, and it worked very well with iatkos V2 that I had installed. However, Natit+white menu fix have stopped working ever since I upgraded to 10.5.4 through Apple's update mkpg. Safe boot (-x boot flag) works, but that's an annoyance since my dual-monitor setup is not correctly detected and I have to change resolutions and arrangement every time i start. Try and see if this will work for you. I have a Gigabyte HD3870 that I could not get to work regardless of whether it was a Retail install using BOOT-DFE-132 or using Kalyway 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 install. I finally discovered that I could get it to work fully with QE, CI, etc by using the older Natit.kext. The Natit.kext that I have shows the binary to be 84,008 bytes in size. You can check the file in /Systems/Library/Extensions/Natit.kext/Contents/MacOS/Natit. This also happens to be the same Natit.kext installed by the new version of iAtkos 4. So I did a retail install using BOOT-DFE-132, rebooted, upgraded using the Combo Update for 10.5.4. Then I installed the Natit.kext as mentioned above. If I used the new version and booted with the -v, the screen would flicker for a brief second after loading the driver and then it hung, with no GUI. But using the older Natit, everything is working with 10.5.4 and completely Retail. The only thing I did was to put the Natit.kext in the /S/L/E directory. Bob Ajob
Very interesting. I also have a 3870 and can only install out of box using iATKOS4. I did also have a few glitches until I ran the old Triakis driver package which now allows me to run absolutely anything perfectly (Full CI/QE and even QGL!!!) I am guessing that the root cause is probably that there are a number of different kinds of 3870 card out there, which all have different firmwares and memory types (i.e. GDDR3/GDDR4) and clock speeds. I think in future the safest bet would be to get the MAC/PC edition when it becomes commonly available - http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=110283 Then I guess it will just be a case of using the driver package and utilities provided by AMD? mitch_de
Xbench Values are overholed. The Bench is not good: - only very little Window - only OpenGL 1.1 test - CPU speed has too much +/- to that valuas (Reason: very, very little window - very less work for an GPU). Even with GMA950 you get unreal very high OpenGL values !!!! If you want to bench your card, use OpenGL Extension Viewer - it has an TAB Test which tests all from 1.1 to 2.1. http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/download.html YOu should use fullscreen AND the highest resolution your screen can handle , also select Bench in the Test Menü. If you set to less resolution (640x480) the bench works also better than Xbench, but the results are also more cpu dependend then benching OprnGL in high resolution. (shpuld be >= 1200x800). This is my 3850 (MSI 512 MB DDR3) , i had before an 2600XT,. 3850 is up to 2,5 times faster than the 2600 at higher res.

Killroy™
I think I read every post on this thread but I didn't see this addressed: Will this technique work with a PCI version (not PCI-e) of the 2400PRO? I am thinking about getting this card (POWERCOLOR 24PRO256M PCI Radeon HD 2400PRO 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI HDCP) since it supports Dual Link DVI on a PCI slot. Donar
I have never used leo4all v3, but if it has an option for installing with your preferred driver you could try it out. But before you could try to go to here and DL a appropriate package for you.

mitch_de
Finder Info on ATIRADEONX200.kext says 1.5.28.21. Thats the PRO for an ATI 3870 - 3850 cant run 1.5.28 (stays at 1.5.24). Next OS X 10.5.5 has 1.5.30+ drivers for ATI (1.5.30 is version of dev 10.5.5). I also will sell my 3850 if there is no way using any newer ATI driver. Mr. EZEKIEL
I just stoped in to say, after falling in love with a half working install and dedicating myself to getting a perfect stable running OS X install, i finally got everything working with NO WHITE MENU'S! I should of followed this properly the first few tries and stayed away from package installs, just did a vanilla install with no added drivers on p35-ds3r with a powercolor 3850 512Mb ECS edition. Boot to safe mode (display corruption otherwise) followed the instructions properly and its all running perfect. Thanks anyone that has contributed to this site, has helped me alot. Now on to setting up apps and sound, exciting times. edit: forgot to add i was trying with 10.5.4 for a while, decided to just go for the recommended 10.5.2 kalyway install for my board, is there any reason why I should upgrade, or is it not worth possibly breaking things again? Newer ATI Drivers, from 10.5.3, for 2XXX+3XXX are 1.5.28 (Finder Info). I think you use the old ones 1.5.24. Mac OS X 10.5.5 will have at least 1.5.30 drivers for ATI 2X/3X cards. The dev version has already 1.5.30. If you want to run bugfixed drivers i think you will have to updgrade IF someone gets the newer ATIRADEON2000 and ATIRADEON2000GL fixed. I also have an 3850, but i think i will sell it , if we cant upgrade OpenGL drivers. They have always some bugs, so without OpenGL upgrades the best card maybe bad for some of the games /CI Apps. Donar
am i doing wrong the installation? since im on 2900xt, i never choose any driver for my graphic card. Wrong might not be the right word. If your install CD has an option for installing drivers for 2900XT then you could have just clicked the right box and all would be fine. I think eg. Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD has "all" needed drivers on board. Before the "appropriate" drivers went into the install DVD/different packages you had to unselect every gfx driver and then install "Leopard Graphics update" and after that the appropriate Natit version. Donar
So the only thing to do next time is: Install with the appropriate driver, or without any (as you will get a garbled screen or kernel panic if you do not choose wisely). If there is no appropriate driver on the CD grab it from the link i gave above - install, probably repair permissions. Reboot, see if it works and QE/CI is enabled. If all works except of QE/CI get your devid in the appropriate kextfile. It is easy if you understand the basics, and if your HW is compatible (see my prob with the 3850...). So have fun with your H4ckint0sh.
