Been there, done that :)

Can I format the partition I want to use for Leo from terminal? What is the command (I'm not familiar with Leo terminal)?

The partition I want to use for Leo install is disk0s4.

Ok... i used the first release of Leo4All with the 1st PPF and installation went normal and regular.

After reboot i got stuck at the creation of account loop but managed to solve it with the indications here on the thread.

Sound and graphics didnt work out of the box but, as for the sound issue, i solved it by aplying the existent kext here on the forums for via chipset and now i have stereo sound fully funcional.

As for graphics since i dont have for the moment a graphics card i use the onboard one with the resolution changed to 1280x1024x32 by editing the Boot.plist file.

As for networking i had to install VIARhine.Kext to make it work and now its fully funcional without any problems.

But the major improvement or if you like change that i would like to talk with you guys is that in the installation and after it, the Hard drive was extremely slow and because of that the OS got slow too...

Trying to figure it out i found out that the ATA Controller used (Kext) wasnt the apropriated for the chipset i have (VIA)

After i changed the AppleGenericPCATA.Kext to AppleVIAATA.Kext the system now looks like a bullet!!!!

The hard drive got extremely faster and also the OS.

I recomend that you dont use the AppleGenericPCATA.Kext and that you guys search for the right one if you are experiencing some slowliness on the hard drive or the OS itself.

Other than that the release is a charm and a must have.....

Best regards to Eddie11c (You did a hell of a kickass release here)

OK after some research I think I fixed the Shared file issue, please try this and report back.

ShareFix.zip

Eddie,

I got Leo4ALLV2 to install and boot last night!

The good: Runs fast, internet works great, ALC888 Sound works even though when I look in the system profiler and click on on board sound it says "no on board sound)

The Bad: I used the driver in the install that said it supported the Nvidia 7XXX series ( I have the 7300 GT) but I can only select 1024x768 for resolution.

If I let Leo sit for an hour and then come back and try to launch anything on the dock I get the spinning wheel and my hard drive light comes on but it just sits there forever like it doesnt want to wake up.

When I try to shutdown or restart I get the following screen:

Picture036.jpg

Also, what MPS setting should I use in my bios, 1.1 or 1.4?

ACPI & PC2001 compliant enhanced power management is enabled currently.

SVM Support is enabled (whatever this is??)

SVM (Secure Virtual Machine) technology provides a set of hardware extensions

designed to enable economical and efficient implementation of virtual machine

systems. Generally speaking, hardware support falls into two complementary

categories: virtualization support and security support. Not all

porcessors support SVM.

ACPI is set to S3

Thanks Eddie.

Ok first of all sleep is currently broken for most people. Open system preferences and turn it off, to include turning the hard drives off. If you are daring you can try setting the sleep mode via terminal and see if it helps.

pmset -g | grep hibernatemode

This shows you the current mode

pmset -a hibernatemode 3

This sets it to mode 3 as an example. Here is a run down of the modes. At least I think these are correct:0 - Old style sleep mode, with RAM powered on while sleeping, safe sleep disabled, and super-fast wake.1 - Hibernation mode, with RAM contents written to disk, system totally shut down while “sleeping,” and slower wake up, due to reading the contents of RAM off the hard drive.3 - The default mode on machines introduced since about fall 2005. RAM is powered on while sleeping, but RAM contents are also written to disk before sleeping. In the event of total power loss, the system enters hibernation mode automatically.5 - This is the same as mode 1, but it’s for those using secure virtual memory (in System Preferences -> Security).7 - This is the same as mode 3, but it’s for those using secure virtual memory.

If you guys have time and questions please drop by the Wiki Site for answers to many of the common questions. I will be working on updating throughout the week.

Hi! I am downloading v2 of the release and have a few ?s.

1. My hard drive is currently installed with Vista. it is partitioned 60 gig primar and 15 gig secondary. Can I just format the secondary partition as fat32 and install OS X there?

2. Is internet access a problem with this release?

Hugo could you please send me that kext or post a link for me? I will add it on future update.

Sosai It really depends on what kind of network card you are using, some work great others don't work at all. As far as installing on a secondary partition of Vista, I don't know. The bootloader will not overwrite one if it exists already. You would have to add Leopard to your Vista boot menu via manually editing or with a program like EasyBCD or similar.

Here's my laptop specs I want to install this on:

HP dv8309us

AMD Turion 64 1.8 Ghz

ATI R200 128mb graphics

Primary hard drive: 60 gb / 15 gb partition, second hard drive 120 gb

1.5 Gb RAM

Realtek RTL8139 family fast ethernet NIC

Can I expect a decent install experience? Or just endless problems? And can you point me to a tutorial for installing leo4all on a system with an existing vista install so that I can dual boot? thanks so much!

MAJOR PROBLEM! PLEASE HELP!

I installed LEo4All without a working Keyboard, thinking that i would sort out a fix afterwards. MAssive Mistake. Neither of the operating systems will now load, with a "Operating System Missing...." messgae when i turn it on. Ive tried to use the Vista Recovery Disk, but it cant fix it. I think what i need to do is just to tell windows to load my orignal partition first, however as i dont have a working keyboard for the apple side and i cant get into the vista side im basically screwed. ANY ANY help at all will be so Welcome! I really need to just get back into vista withoutdestroying my Harddrive!

I don't use Vista so I won't be of much help. What kind of keyboard are you using? I really recommend using a USB keyboard for Leopard. Maybe someone who has more experience with Vista can chime in.

Won't the built-in keyboard on my laptop work? i do have an external keyboard I can connect via usb.

I have not tried them yet, I don't use AHCI since I never set up XP with it(and is a real pain to do post install).

it is not really that hard, i did it less than 3 minutes by following this thread

now my e-sata disk is hot-pluggable :)

link to the guide

btw, the device id for ich9 is 2923, as it is not mentioned in the guide (only ich8r and ich9r are covered)

so replace any instance of 2922 (ICH9R) or 2821 (ICH8R) in the edited files.

edit:

just found a specific ich9 guide here

Which one do you need? I can provide all of them if you like....

Ok .... in the folder there will be the kexts for VIA networking, AppleVIAATA and for sound in VIA chipsets.

Enjoy!

Hey guys

I have tried to install with Leo4allv2 justnow.

First time that I tried to boot into install DVD, I saw the "Still wating for root device". So, I entered CMOS set. and changed the value named "Large disk access mode", from [DOS] to [Others]. Then, I suceeded to bypass the error.

I can see install screen now, but DVD cannot mount the Partition that I want to install into. It recognizes the HDD and all the partitions but cannot mount the partition. So that I cannot format partition to HFS+ by "Disk Utility".

Recognizing the HDD means ur DVD contains SB600 driver. DVD with out SB600 is not able to recognize.

Before started to install, I set the partition that I want to install into, to "0xAF" with "Acronis disk director suite v10". Should I make the HFS+ partition in the other DVD which can mount partition well, that I want to install into?

Aren't there any solutions? Help me

P.S. normal DVDs with SB600 driver, are not show me "Still wating for root device" and mount as well Although I didn't change the value from [DOS] to [Others].

Model name - [Laptop] Samsung Sens R20 Plus

HDD - 120GB SATA HDD

Chipset - ATI 690G [sATA Cnt. = SB600]

CPU = C-2-D T7100 [Mobile Processor] [Just like Conroe]

Sometimes disk utility will glitch like that, I suggest formatting the drive you want FAT32 and try again.

Hey eddie

I tried to install with FAT32, and DVD wasn't able to mount either, but It was able to click the format button in disk utility. So, I clicked it and It looked like working.

But, after few seconds, It was not work anymore. It stocked in the format progress so I had to trun my laptop off by pushing power button.

And, I found a permission problem in ur DVD. You know my southbridge chipset is SB600 (for HDD) and ur DVD contains the driver for that. But it doesn't works and shows me "Still wating for root Device" unless I put "-v -f" option with changing the value named "Large Disk Access Mode" in COMS, from [DOS] to [Others], as I told you before. It means the driver for SB600 in ur DVD has not correct permission and also, It is not a perfact driver because the other DVDs that contains driver for SB600 work well both [DOS] and [Others]. Please check it out.

Thanks

...does it mean i have to download the whole torrent again? why do i get a corrupt file?

..regarding the ".nfo" file, do i have to include it when burning the iso?

..thanks again!

eddie, i too am having this same issue, i've burned about 15 copies of this iso all with different programs, different speeds, different burners and on different computers! i've even downloaded this iso from different sources! i can install base system without any options, once i start to add drivers like the sb driver or the ati display drivers install fails immediatly. this is with every single one of these dvd's i've burned! it is finally nice to be able to boot into an installer without seeing still waiting for root device but i'm afraid the buck stops there! i've installed without any options but system can't find operating system upon hd reboot, not to mention it shows something about intel bios. i can't install the ati fix cause installer fails. i can't win any way i look at it. any ideas?

Did the MD5 checksum of the DVD match for you? Can you try changing the DMA mode of you DVD drive before loading the installer?

I'm really sorry to bring this up again, eddie, but I'm still stuck here. I'm not sure if OSX has detected my Nforce network drivers, and I even tried plugging in a seperate NIC attached to an ethernet port and OSX didn't detect that, either. I'm really worried that I'm going to be stuck right at the very end, eddie, please put my fears to rest.

I'm sorry to bring this up again eddie, but I fear you might have missed it. Connecting to the internet appears to be my only remaining problem... and after all these days work I'm worried that I may have come to a roadblock at the very end.

In the "Network" menu of the System Preferences? Under "Configure: Manually"? Every time I enter information and click "Apply", it reverts back to "Configure: Off".

EDIT: Also- I've attempted to use the search on this forum, but it gives me errors... in French for some odd reason, stating that "Erreur Sphinx : expected searchd protocol version 1+, got version '0'". Sorry again...

Try removing the Forcedeth.kext and installing a different version, there are lots of variations of them. Try google with Insanelymac referenced in the search. Use Kexthelper to install it, then reboot and cross your fingers.

Did the MD5 checksum of the DVD match for you? Can you try changing the DMA mode of you DVD drive before loading the installer?

ok so after god know's how many attempts at installing this, i finally got it to install with the amd fix and with drivers for my sb600 however new issues have arose. i'm currently running your leo4all with both patches! finally nice to see leo on this laptop!!! my issues are as follow's so far:

1. if i boot from hard drive i get operating system not found. when i loaded the installer and went to customize, my options for choosing a bootloader were grey'd out and checked, i couldn't make a choice or change what was already checked so i continued with the installer. i can only boot to leopard with the dvd in the drive and it takes roughly about 5 minutes to boot. any ideas?

2. about this mac only shows and unknown 1.9ghz processor. not too concerned about this at the moment, i'm more concerned about getting this to boot without the dvd and to boot faster!

i figure i'll have to tackle these things one at a time, there are more though. it does see my usb ports but i can't use them, no wireless card yet, display driver qe= software, ci= unsupported.

here are a few pics so far, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

P.S. it's finally nice to actually be getting somewhere!!! i was just about ready to give up on the whole project!
