Another thanks for your time and effort.

Question I have found and downloaded the new "Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD Intel_Amd (sse2/sse3) EFI V8"

How close to your new easy install quide using "Kalyway 10.5.1" is the the new one?

I have searched for ages and can not find a straight answer.

Anyhelp or assistance greatly appreciated.

I plan on using a Gigabyte EP35-DS4, E8400 3.00GHz 6M 1333MHz 45nm, 4Gb Ram

I have the same question of irontony!

Should we just skeep the 10.5.2 upgrade and run the other installer as suggested in your guide? That means, for instance, installing

- the netkas 9.2.0 kernel (speedstep or sleep)

- sound drivers

- macdotnub SMBIOS

- ICH9R SATA drivers)

thank you very much!

Debugger called: <panic>

10.5.2 universal dvd is more convinient because it comes with 10.5.2 updatede already included and also 9.2.2 kernel. However end result of using 10.5.1 dvd with pcwiz instructions are practicly the same as just installing 10.5.2 dvd...

10.5.2 dvd comes with 9.2.2 kernel installed. I have not installed 10.5.2 dvd but used pcwiz guide and i had to install sound... i know that 10.5.2 comes with more driver options durring install. you will have to figure out which one is for your board.

Hi All,

I haven't quite pulled the trigger yet on this system build..

I asked a question a while back and didn't see a response.

Are there still problems with the on board IDE & last 2 SATA ports? Especially with 4GB+ RAM on this series of boards? I like the specs of these boards and have heard lots of great things about them... but I just need to know if IDE will be out of the question for me or not.

Everyone if you use my installer package on a Kalyway 10.5.2 install that uses the 9.2.2 kernel then it will screw it up. If you are going to use Kaluwau 10.5.2 DVD with this then choose the 9.2.0 sleep or speedstep kernel when you are installing, not the 922 kernels. I strongly recommend using the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD for this guide.

Fruitboi,

I'm not sure about the 4GB+ RAM thing but the last 2 SATA ports partially work, you can't boot from them or anything but you can use then as secondary storage. There is only problems with booting from IDE DVD drives, all other IDE things are OK.

Islander,

Are you using the Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD or the 10.5.1?

First off, thank you pcwiz for the excellent walk through! I am getting stuck pretty early on in the process, so I wanted to ask your (or anyone else who might know) opinion.

After getting all of the BIOS settings changed, I attempt to boot from the kalyway dvd. The dvd drive spins up for a while but never loads. Does this sound like a corrupt iso? To make sure the drive was functioning I threw an XP dvd in and it loads. I am using the GA-EP35-DS4.

To add to this, the kalyway dvd shows up on my wifes mac as a leopard install, so this has caused some confusion for me. Thanks.

One question: wouldn't be better to use the vanilla kernel 9.2.2 (that comes with 10.5.2) instead of the 9.2.0 speedstep? (well, i don't need sleep modality, so i guess i should use the speedstep kernel 9.2.0, but i don't know the difference between this and the vanilla 9.2.2.)

thanks for the reply

it seems like your dvd is corrupt... reburn it with low speed snd try again.

New dvd worked and the 10.5.1 install ran without a hitch. When I reboot though, it freezes on the apple loading screen. I am letting it sit for the time being. Any ideas?

I tried running the install once more, reformating the drive etc, but the same thing happens.

Islander,

Sounds like you installed the PS/2 fix...You might have to reinstall :( Reinstall and then update again and run the installer without the PS/2 fix.

StuartG,

Are you using EFI MBR or EFI GUID? Did you format it right and did you choose both Vanilla options and an EFI bootloader? Try booting in verbose mode (-v at the F8 boot prompt) and see what is stalling it.

The kalyway install ended up working when I didn't use the nvinject video drivers oddly enough (GUID). After I got past that everything else was a breeze. Thank you again for the great walk though pcwiz! System is updated and running smooth. :P Here are my current specs.

Guest Snowski

Hi pcwiz,

First, thx for the guide and help bud. Now I've been messing around with sleep cause it's the first time I actualy use it and came to this conclusion.

Sleep/WAke in S3 (str) is very, very fast but gives me a constant error after wake up.

In console I get: Firewire GUID 000... is invalid

When I use S1 all is good but I don't like this mode since it keeps the hardware running.

Do you think we can fix the STR mode somehow cause it would be perfect if it was'nt for that error.

Thx

Thanks for the help pcwiz. can I just put in the disc and go over or do I have to wipe the hard drive clean?

As you proceed with installation you will get to the point where you will have to erase and format your hard drive to mac extension (Journaled)...

I got rid of the kernel panic, but now the problem I am having is after the gray screen, it boots to a black screen and nothing happens. I let it sit there for a good 15 minutes and nothing happened.

EDIT: It loads but there is only one resolution 800x600, which isnt a a huge problem, but on a 42" vizio its a little fugly. we were able to get 1080i in safe mood but it would not give the option on a normal boot

StuartG,

Glad it works :P

Snowski,

Haven't tested it myself yet but are you using the netkas sleep kernel? S3 could work with that

Islander,

You need to install graphics drivers for your card, then all should be fine ^_^ By the looks of it you need Punk92's NVIDIA 2.0 installer.

I can't get it running... Followed the guide and used the Kalyway 10.5.1 iso, did everything necessary, but after installation is complete, it boots up, I see the apple logo and after a while both my screens turn gray and nothing happens, even after 20 minutes.

My hardware:

GA-P35-DS3R Mobo

Core 2 Duo e4300 @ 2,7 ghz

MSI ATI 2600XT 512MB DDR3 (Is this card supported?)

4GB DDR2 800mhz

4x Western Digital Caviar 250gb Raid Edition SATA

Optiarc DVD-RW SATA (I disconnected it from the purple JMICRON sata controller and put it on an orange/yellow ICH9R sata, also disabled the JMICRON sata controller in the bios, also tried setting it to AHCI mode, but same result)

I did everything necessary, all bios settings, etc.

Please help me out!

I am not sure what you mean by sata devices... Hard drive, dvd-rw? ATA hard drive will work ok, the only thing you will have problem with is your dvd drive. As far as i see its ATA and that is what is going to create a problem. :) You need sata dvd drive to install leopard, ATA will work after intallation.

Boot in verbose mode... at the booting screen press F8 type -v and press enter... post screen shot where it freezes... :(

Please put your hardware in your signature... thanks!!!

So I need SATA DVD to install leopard. I'll buy a new one, and move ATA to the HTPC.

Could I install Leopard in ata HDD, HFS+ 40gb partion, and it will coexist with 2 NTFS? It's easy configure GRUB for boot 4 OS, Leopard in ATA, Debian x64 + Vista SP1 x64+ XP SP3 in SATA2?

two Last question, Audigy 2 ZS isn't suported ?? and Leopard kalyway 10.5.2 iso runs great as 10.5.1 and then upgrade to 10.5.2?

Thanks :D

Thanks for your reply macciti

I just installed again, still having the same problem. I boot with the F8 and -V function, but I am unable to make a screenshot, as it turns blank at the moment it freezes. I think it has something to do with the Radeon 2600XT... I try to provide you with a movie...

EDIT: Here is a link to the movies I made with my Nokia N95 in MP4 format: LINK
