maccit,

Good, thanks :)

mrogers,

To go back to the vanilla kernel just run the kalyway kernels mpkg again and choose the vanilla kernel

csthiang,

That might be because you installed the Time Machine update. Did you?

Semicus,

Once you are in single user mode run these commands:

/sbin/mount -uw /
mkdir /atibackup
cp -r /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000.kext /atibackup
rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000.kext
reboot

See if that fixes the error :(

Let me begin with the problem I had after installing 10.5.2 update. Just to mention I was able to install KALYWAY 10.5.1 without any problems. It all began when I installed 10.5.2 Combo Update. Simply put I was not able to log in into OSX after that. I was getting this error ‘timed out waiting to write kernel symbols’ (see attachment). I have reinstalled KALYWAY and after installation of 10.5.2 update I got same result. (Not to mention that I have reinstalled KALYWAY 10 times after that again:)) After spending hours on Google trying to find the answer to my question, I have gathered some suggestions from different people. I have combined it together to what I call ‘worked for me, whoo hoo!’ thing

Alright, as I have promised, here is what I did to fix the issue. I did a clean install of KALYWAY 10.5.1 and after restart I have successfully booted into OSX. Now before running 10.5.2 combo update, I have installed ‘kernel’ (the one I was suppose to install after 10.5.2 update). After installation, I have restarted my box, but this time instead of letting it start I have log in into BIOS and in addition to what needed to be changed according to ~pcwiz tutorial I have changed ‘peripherals’ SATA RAID from ‘disabled’ to ‘AHCI’ (or something like that), saved settings and restarted BIOS. After applying those changes I was able to log in into OSX with no waiting what so ever (I did –v). Ok, so after installing ‘kernel’ I have copied 10.5.2 combo update on my desktop and installed it. However, before I clicked ‘restart’ I have ‘repaired partitions’ leaving ‘restart’ window open. After I repaired partitions, I have restarted my OSX. Interesting to note that, I had no waiting what so ever ‘at the black’ screen after the 10.5.2 combo update was applied. It booted straight in. After that I have installed sound driver from ~pcwiz, and restarted my box, it worked like a charm. Now I have totally working Mac OSX and buying (ebay) retail version of OSX just to make it close :(.

I have also installed Vmware Fusion with no problems and Windows XP Pro. Its just works. Hope this helps.

P.S. Put the Apple sticker on my box, looks cool I think.

Mine is also working great. Installed with KALYWAY 10.5.1 with no issues on a dedicated disk with AHCI enabled. Then upgraded to 10.5.2 using Leo4all V2 update file with Pacifist, just selected to DMG file and it updated automaticly.

Now i have full working MAC on my machine including sound, vga & bluethooth, see details on my signature.

I installed everything as instructed and the OS rebooted afterwards but the problems come when there is a "b0 error" displayed on the before startup screen (Its after the BIOS screen where disks are recognised)

Anyone know what just happened?

b0 error is when you have no partition active.

You have to boot with -s option and use fdisk to solve. I don't remember all the commands now, but the forum is full of threads about this issue.

Ah! I will try to find. Thanks

edit: Okay. Now I can boot into the first apple screen but it hangs into a black screen after the apple logo. Can anyone help?

Boot with -v options and try to see which are the errors

demonic angels

boot in verbose mode. Press F8 at the boot screen, type '-v' and press enter. Post screen shot where its freezing.

Ok. I did that but when I got to the verbose screen it did not seem to have any errors and booted to a black screen again.

I can move the cursor around in the black screen. my graphics card 7900Gtx is recognized.

chuckeroo and elradix, glad it works :)

VaSH,

Nope haven't tested the 9.2.2 kernel yet. I would really advise against doing the update because it installs a new kernel and System.kext, and even restoring the old files doesn't always work according to people who test it. If you have EFI, it should be fine in vanilla and the kernel should for most work, but you might lose shutdown and restart, maybe even sleep. I hear there is a patched 9.2.2 kernel lurking around, so if someone can test that would be great :) I have a lot of important stuff on my setup, and it would take a long time to back it all up and try :)

I'll have to add a warning about this on the front :)

@Dem An

ok, first step for you would be to put your signature on the bottom. There is no way anybody can easily track your specs to help you, that is the main reason that there is not a lot of response too. So please do that first.

Yeah its been confirmed safe:

EDIT: I would also like to add, about the 9.2.2 kernel, we should just wait for the 10.5.3 update (coming soon) that includes the 9.3.0 kernel. Then assuming that netkas or someone makes a nice patched kernel for it, we install it. I'm almost fainting at the thought of all the work I'll have to do on this guide when 10.5.3 comes :)
