guess ~pcwiz guide is one to follow, but i just got my an asus P5B mobo and its a P65* chipset so i think this mobo maynot work with ~pcwiz guide.Thanks.

Guess you changed your mind about a Gigabyte board. :unsure:

I went back on fourth on Gigabyte, Asus and Abit...I drove myself crazy for a little bit.

 

You can give ~pcwiz guide a shot. Also there might be a dedicated Asus install tutorial around on the forums.

I may, soon, but at the moment it seems that quite a few people are having regrets about updating and there are many problems like losing video, etc. so I want to wait until 10.5.3 matures a bit before I update the guide, because I don't want to screw people over by going on the bleeding edge of 10.5.3 ;) Thanks for changing the avatar :D

Seems like non-Hackintosh users are having problems with the 10.5.3 update also...good idea to wait until the dust settles on this one.

Is it possible to have a clarification on one thing?

 

I'm installing from the Kalyway 10.5.2 disc so most of the settings in your guide don't correspond/

 

Secondly when I do install your drivers it causes a system crash - this is on a Kalyway with the default kernel (first on list).

 

Also - i'm not installing any kernel drivers in that patch so I'm not sure what is being affected.

 

At the least I've selected the sound, ethernet sata and smbios.

 

From quick tests it appears the PS2/USB driver is the culprit of the kernel crashes

 

it crashes with "unable to find driver for this platform "ACPI"

First of all the guide is not meant for Kalyway 10.5.2 disc, its meant for the 10.5.1 disc with the update. Just get that exact disc, follow the instructions and you should be fine. The PS/2 driver is only if you have a PS/2 keyboard, useless for anything else.

So am I to assume the drivers provided will actually break my system unless installed as stated by the guide?

 

My intention was to use it as a quick fix all for drivers, so was kinda surprised when installing ethernet, sound and the ps/2 fix (I still use one) caused the system to die.

They shouldn't break your system, that is other than the PS/2 fix which is known to screw things up sometimes. But the thing is if you look through the thread there are problems where people screwed the computers using the Kalyway 10.5.2 disc. But you see that when people use the 10.5.1 disc and just follow instructions, there are far less problems, in fact, none at all in many cases. There might be something conflicting in the Kalyway 10.5.2 install, I don't know. I haven't ever done a Kalyway 10.5.2 disc install.

Okay I solved that problem by hooking up the hard drive the to the cluster of SATA ports that the CD drive was hooked up to. They come in two sets of two.

 

 

Got it all installed, with GUID.

 

Now on rebooting after the install its bringing me to the normal apple logo and spinning white thing, but then Im just brought to a blank unchanging grey screen. :D

 

 

Im using an ATI 2600 and i did check the NATIT ATI drivers in the install. Im using a DVI connector.

 

 

What should I do?

Using the guide I have installed my system and with the exception of a few items everything is running. The number one problem I have right now is streaming videos. In either Firefox or Safari when I attempt to run the video clips on CNN or MSNBC the videos seem to stream (the streaming bar moves) but the video is frozen. When I go to Apple it is able to run the video on the front page (commerical clips). When I go to ITunes store and run the video previews, some run and some dont. Any help would be appreciated. When I go to You Tube same problem

Yeah! I finally got it working. Im writing right now from OSX :)

This is a great and very easy to follow guide! Thanks a lot PCWIZ!

The install went relatively smooth. I had to try twice as the first time the installation froze with only 1 or 2 minutes left. Then I tried a 2nd time and this time I skipped the graphics card driver. I had chosen NVinject but the Note said if you were not sure it was best not to choose a driver, so the 2nd time around I skipped the driver. Then at installation it looked like it had frozen again at about 1 minute left to the end. So I hit enter once and it finished installing. Now I have no idea if it was because I hit ENTER, if it was because I skipped the graphics driver or if it was just all coincidence, but it installed and I went through all steps and now its running. Although I|m thinking I should have tried installing again with the graphics driver as the szstem seems to be missing it as you will notice bellow.

It boots smooth every time. But not all applications seem to be working. I have a list of stuff that doesn't seem to be working properly:

 

1) I have no sound whatsoever.

2) cant play DVDs on my external drive.

3) Quicktime is pretty jerky and behaves clumsy.

4) Photo booth doesn't work and says the graphics card in this computer doesn't support it.

5)Cant change the resolution of my monitor. I|m using a Benq FP241W 24 inches with a native resolution of 1920x1200 but the only available resolution is 1280x768.

6) Cant set dual monitors

7)I have a swapable SATA drive baz and the szstem won|t let me rename the drive, although I could rename mz main drive just fine.

8) Bootcamp doesn't work.

9) I downlaoded Apple Shake demo and installed it but it won|t run. It starts and then closes sazing there an error.

10) Sleep freezes the screen but seems to work as when I press the reset or start button it unfreeyes and come back to normal. But when I set security to ask password after sleep it doesnt work. * I chose Speedstep Kernel, mainly because you (PCWIZ) did. So I was not hoping to sleep to work at all, but it seems to "work" as mentioned above. By the way, what is the real difference? Speed makes something faster or?

 

A lot of other little things dont seem to be working but they are less important and I don|t miss them now.

 

Some details of my install:

 

I chose MBR

Im using USB mouse and keyboard.

System specs:

 

Intel DP35DP mobo

Intel E6750 @ 2.66GHz

2GB RAM

Geforce 8400 GS

SATA 250GB HDD

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for the great guide PCWIZ!

I had no sound too after the first install. Simple fix is to run PCWIZ's "Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P-DS3R-DS4" installer again and only install the sound component.

 

Edit: I see you have a Intel board with "SigmaTel STAC9271D" audio chipset. So installing the above sound component will not do you any good. Do a search and see what you find.

 

Edit: Just did a quick search as I was curious of a sound solution for the Intel board...here's what you need...go to Intel of course:

Your Quicktime and other video problems are a result of not having the proper driver for your card...what worked for me is the NVInstaller v.41 from http://scottdangel.com/blog/?page_id=20

Yes, I figured all the display related problems was the fact I skipped the graphics driver install. But it seems in the case of the 8400 GT you should skip it anyway and install the proper driver lately as apparently the drivers in the guide won|t work. But the weird thing is that I have been researching around here about a driver for the 8400 GT and most people seem to be reporting they could only get it to work with VGA but I|m connected via DVI-D on mine and I have a picture just fine and the boot time is fast. I just can|t go higher than 1024x768 in resolution. But I|m connected via DVI-D. Before I had two monitors, one VGA and this DVI-D connected and only the VGA worked. I couldnt set it to dual monitors. Then I decided to unplug the VGA and restart and the DVI-D worked. I will try the driver install you suggested and see. I had found it on this thread here:http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=83944&st=0

But I wanted to make sure it was the right one. Since I at least have a image via DVI-D I would hate to install this driver just to have my monitor working on VGA only. Does your monitor works with DVI-D?

Yep I have DVI working on my 8800GT. The proper DVI port is the one that is closest to the motherboard...are you using that port first? I installed NVInstaller v.41 (after everything was installed via PCWIZ's tutorial.) I'll be adding a VGA monitor later today...so wish me luck!

 

Here's a better link to find the intel sound driver...seems like that sound chip is a bugger to fix.

I know the first post mentions not to install the Time Machine update from Apple, but does that mean that Time Machine doesn't work at all? Just wondering...

 

I just ordered all my parts today. DS3P, Q6600, 500GB HDD, 7300GT 256MB, Lite-On Sata DVD writer, 2GB RAM. Can't wait to use the tutorial on this build! After reviewing this thread, it looks like the only things I should make sure not to install on the first go are video and sound drivers. Correct?
