I'm assuming the USB thing is only with the 9.2.2 kernel right? Because USB works fine for me here with 9.2.0 (haven't installed Time machine update yet). To make an image of your perfect install you can use Norton Ghost, Time Machine (requires patch), etc. You could even probably use Disk Utility to make a DMG backup of your drive that you can restore.

Why Patch required?

Time Machine is working with an secon internal SATA drive.

(Of course all SATA drives are seen as external after your installation guides.)

I have created dmg file with dmgmaster... will try it today. By the way my sata drives seen as insternal longtom...

I've done the installation from the guide of pcwiz and then it is seen as external. But i think it makes no difference.

Mine show as external as well. When I installed from retail DVD with a different set of patched kexts, theys how as internal.

pcwiz: do you know which kexts/patches fix this?

Alright well I'm not getting the resolution I'm looking for but everything else seems to work, so I've RMA'd my video card and having the XXX version overnighted to me. The XFX I have now isn't actually on the Hardware Compatibility List, I had mistaken it for the one I have on order. what a bone-head mistake.

So right now the only thing I need assistance on, is getting sleep working. When I hit sleep, all applications close and the cursor disappears, but my desktop is still open.

macciti,

Norton Ghost is a Boot CD, so it doesn't matter what OS you are running, you can create a backup of it.

longtom,

Hmm...I might have been wrong there. I think the Kalyway releases might include the patch, I know that the ToH RC2 Leopard needed a fix for Time Machine to work properly. The issue is that Time Machine backups will be created fine, but if you restore them there is a bootloader error of some sort. I don't know the exact specifics of the error, just heard of it.

Fruitboi,

I found another fix for this problem, see here. You have to edit a kext.

Islander,

What sleep mode are you on (S3 or S1) and are you/are you not using the sleep kernel?

cyberderf,

Yes it seems like that is the issue. Apparently you cannot boot from IDE drives, but since I have a SATA DVD drive I haven't seen this for myself yet.

Is it true you can't install OSX86 on DS3L / DS3R if you have IDE DVD Drive ?

As has been discussed several times in this thread, that is correct. However, you can put the drive into a USB case and install that way.

Fruitboi

It may or may not work. I think it is highly device dependant.

I installed on a DS3L MB using a Lite-On IDE DVDROM drive.

pcwiz,

Kudos once again to you.

I install using your guide onto a Foxconn P9657AB MB. I had not read much about any success or failure using this MB; thus I gave it a shot.

Such a feature rich MB with Firewire, Gigabit LAN, SATA plus JMicron IDE as well.

Just installed all the updates except for Time Machine... Everything is still working great.

You used the same installer to install to that mobo? Is the hardware between that Foxconn and these Gigabyte P35's similar? If the hardware is similar theres a good chance this same pack will work on other mobos as well.

YES SIR, Same installer for both systems.

The Foxconn MB model is P9657AB-8EKRS2H.

It is a MB based on the P965 chipset, not as friendly for OCing but very stable.

I will post the hardware for both tomorrow. Maybe it will help someone else out.

BTW - Quick question - Is it safe to apply the Time Machine update?

Has anyone managed to get dual video cards working on the ds4 board? I can't even get one working. I have two gigabyte 8600 gts 256mb (silent pipe) and the only thing I can't get working is the video. Everything else on this board is working using pcwiz's guide. I have tried nvinstaller 4.1, punk 1.9 and 2.0 and nvinject.kext 2.0. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

My Spec's if it helps.

Dual Core 6600

2 Gig Kingston

Gigabyte P35-DS4, bios F11

Dual 8600 gts 256

Pioneer 215 SATA DVD

Various ide and sata HD's

Installed with Kalyway 10.5.1, upgraded to 10.5.2 and installed p35 pack. Also did Leopard graphics update. All good and after that any changes to the graphics config give me the "Your computer needs to be rebooted screen". Do the -v and/or -x on boot and it doesn't seem to have anything obviously wrong.

Did you repair permissions? Do that! After each time you install kexts or video drivers or anything!

"Your computer needs to be rebooted" means a Kernel Panic. You either did something very bad the system doesn't like, or else you have faulty hardware. Check your RAM and obviously try swapping video cards, reseating all your connections, etc etc.

Sorry forgot to mention I have done the repair permissions as well. My install is exactly as pcwiz's guide says. The problem I have is any graphics changes after the install guide, it breaks. When I do -v on boot it never actually calls a kernel panic.

Hi All,

For those who whave the EP35-DS3R board.. can you look in the Apple System Profiler to see how many "USB High-Speed Bus"(480mb) and "USB Bus"(12mb) you see? I would've thought all ports were High Speed? Of 8 USB busses, only 2 are High Speed!

I'm curious, because I think one of my USB drives blew out a couple of USB ports on my old board.. Trying to see if that might be the case here.

Thanks for your help!

Aaron

Let me stir things up a bit. I think I will announce a major revamp of this guide when 10.5.3 comes out, with the latest in Gigabyte P35 Drivers and kernels, etc. Don't get your hopes up too high right now though, thats only if I have time ;)
