gendem
Hi there First, thanks tons for the guide, it's pure gold I'm doing things a bitt differently...I'm following the dual-boot steps here and so i don't actually have a choice when i go into disk utility to select either MBR or GUID...those options are not present. I'm assuming i want to use MBR though, as windows is the first os. is that right? ...Mike
gendem
Well, it looks like GUID is not the answer, as I got a B0 on reboot. i guess I'll try the MBR method next.

Welcome Mike, guid has nothing to do with b0 error. It simply means no active partition. Sometimes you will have to mark partition as active manually. Please see page back for instructions. GUID is recomended if you dual boot xp and mac from the same hard drive. please include your specs in signature plus we all had experience based on this guide,

gendem
Right you are, missed that the first time through. OK, so I now have OSX installed, and Windows installed...but I can't boot OSX without leaving the OSX install DVD in the drive, and I can't boot windows at all. Setting the active partition to OSX results in a hang...nothing happens. I'm about to head to bed, but if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them...search terms, whatever. I don't care which boot loader (OSX or XP) works, but I've followed several suggestions to get either of them to work, and neither does ...Mike

I tried installing the GUID EFI, and got the same error, when trying to dual-boot Leopard with XP. Only MBR works with dual-boot with XP. gendem
OK, so I reinstalled OS X as the first partition, and windows as the second. One thing to keep in mind is that if you put the second partition to far into a big drive, it's not bootable. So right now, I have 10.5.2, installed using this method toa tee, using the MBR method. I also have XP installed, which I did second. So XP boots fromt eh disk, and OS X boots using the DVD boot method. What i need to do now is fugure out a way to do a dual boot. Does anyone know of a way to do this? I tried copying CHAIN0 from the DVD and adding a line to boot.ini, but that doesn't work. Setting the first partition active doesnt work. Any help much appreciated. ...Mike

You are right. When you choose MBR instead of GUID it automaticly sets the OS X partition active. But what i wanted to say was that even if you choose GUID the install should go fine. OS X should intall itself ok, than b0 error can be fixed manually.
MuTe0R
Hi, Thx for writing this guide I was hoping you could post the md5 hash for the Kalyway 10.5.2 Combo Updater just so I can make sure the one I downloaded is legit. yonyz
If you say so. I have two questions regarding vanilla kernel and the efi boot loader: 1. After installing the Vanilla kernel successfully, would I be able to install Mac OS X applications with their original installers, I mean, without any modified kexts or something like that? 2. When installing the EFI bootloader, is it lke installing the v8 EFI, os is it something completely different?

Bernard Tapie
Hello I'm posting this one from my PC at work, unfortunately it means I wasn't successful to use OSX86. My problem is very strange : - After the very first installation reboot, I have the normal white Apple Screen with the little wheel, then when it's supposed to display the desktop I just get a plain grey screen, no Apple logo or something. It's the very same grey screen as before of after the customized Kalyway installation window appear. So it's grey and nothing happens next... - Then I did a clean install with the natit drivers included, and this time after the reboot I got a screen full of glitches, looks like a full screen Tetris game. What I don't understand is why during the dvd installation the display is working (at 1024x724 I presume) and not when it should boot the OS. Bernard Tapie
ok I got it to work, but only with -x before (safe mode) As i have no network under safe mode, I'll try to copy the netkas natit drivers onto my desktop via the Transmac software (yes I can't believe I also installed Vista). Fruitboi
how long do we have to wait for 10.5.3 update ? It's not even out from Apple yet, man They are actively seeding it to devs, which means it is probably soon, but they are changing their seeding habits it seems.
