Modified BIOS to get all cores working

Could anyone help me to modify the bios for my nettop? please!

I can install Leopard 10.5.8 but only with CPUS=1 fix, or give this error message:

MAC Framework successfully initialized

using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff80002bfafe): "Should have 2 Cores, but only found1 for Die0"

If you can boot an install DVD and install OS X you don't need a modified BIOS.

The BIOS patches that various people do (did) consists of removing the CPU aliases from your DSDT.

If you are able to boot and install but your hardware needs this (ie CPUS=1 works) you can do it yourself post-install by extracting and editing your DSDT. It isn't difficult, just remove a couple lines of code, recompile and put the DSDT where your bootloader looks for it.

There are many threads about it, use google or the forum search.

Hi all. Trying to install the Kalyway 10.5.2 I get a kernel panic during the boot, something about the CPU.

My pc is an HP Pavilion p6230it and so I have an MSI MS-7613 Motherboard. Looking into the bios mods list, I only find the mod for the MS-7610 bios...Is there a bios mod to get it work? or, elsewhere, Is there a way to install the system on my pc? maybe an other version? Thx all...

Modified BIOS for ASUS M50Vm-X1 laptop.

Specs:

CPU: Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo P8400, 2233 MHz (8.5 x 263)

Chipset: Intel Cantiga PM45

BIOS Type: AMI

Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS (1024 MB)

Audio Adapter: Realtek ALC663 @ Intel 82801IB ICH9 - High Definition Audio Controller

IDE Controller: Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller

Wireless Network Adapter: Atheros AR928x Wireless Network Adapter

Wired Network Adapter: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC

FireWire Controller: Ricoh RL5C832 IEEE1394 Controller

Modified BIOS uploaded to rapidshare:

http://rapidshare.com/files/174553883/M50VAS209_modbin.7z

Tested distributions that seem to work now: iAtkos_10.5.5, iDeneb_10.5.5

Original BIOS: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/M50V/M50V209AS.zip

I roughly followed modding instructions provided by david tsu in this forum, with some exceptions noted below.

Make sure you get the latest version of iasl compiler from here: http://www.acpica.org/downloads/binary_tools.php

1. mydsdt.aml block ends with an ASCII string "ATKDGENWh", not "WAKh". If iasl chokes on the error that looks like "TableHeader length [0xDEAD] greater than the input file size [0xBEEF], use the first value (in my case 0xBE46) as the offset to mark the end of the block.

2. Once Alias lines have been commented out, all instances of CPU0, CPU1 ... need to be replaced with P001, P002 ... as specified in the Alias lines.

3. If you use the 2005 version of iasl (from the link in david tsu's guide) all instances of _T_0 need to be replaced with T_0.

Just wanted to say you're the man for posting this. Flashed my wife's M50VM with it and the freeze up after OSX install went away and now can boot right into OSX.

Used a patched VoodoHDA to get the audio working on this. Still can't get wireless to work (Using ethernet fine though, will prob just buy compatible card and swap it out).

Thanks a million!

Intel q8200 CPU 6gb Ram, ami bios, I have only got a ati 4350 pcie card at the moment

I tried using your moded 5.23 bios but I get problems with the CPU fan control for some reason.

This orig bios suffers from the standard cpu issue of crashing/restarting during installation,

I can get OSX to install with cpus=1 boot but it wont load after install.

Any help would be great thanks in advance.

Does anyone know where a tutorial on how to mod my own would be? I've had a look and played with other bios mods to see how it all works but a decent tutorial or guide has yet to materialise, it all seems to be about slic mods n that

My Specs are

Asus P5QL EPU

Core 2 Quad Processor

Nvidia 7300

Must boot with cpus=1 and DSDTpatch does not work

Something else is wrong then, a modified BIOS will not fix it if a patched DSDT with CPU aliases removed doesn't.

Check your BIOS settings.

Do a CMOS reset (maybe Load Setup Defaults will do) save, reboot, then enable all CPU features except CPUID limit, and enable ACPI 2.0.

Hi Kabyl !

I want to install snow leopard on my Asus F8Sa.

If it could at the same time allow it to boot Ubuntu 64 bits it would be amazing :D

Thanks in advance !

I tried to check if i was able to update the latest bios myself, looking at the differences between your mod for the 301 bios and the original one, but theres much more than a few bytes changed :wacko:

Could you please update the latest bios version for Asus F8Sa ?

Thanks again !

At the risk of killing PCs of a thousand noobs all over the planet, I will share some information.

There's a tool called AMIModTool/AwardModTool out that's normally used to insert an OEM SLIC table into a BIOS file, allowing people to easily pirate Windows Vista and Windows 7.

In this tool there's a DSDT section and there you can find a checkbox next to 'remove CPU aliases'.

Good luck, and don't PM me if your Windows installation stopped booting, failed activation or your BIOS ROM went up in smoke.

This is a bit off topic, just wondering if anyone knows if this is possible.

Is it possible to modify ICH10's SATA controller registers somehow? It seems on all Gigabyte boards PxCMD—Port [5:0] Command Register (D31:F2) bit #18 is set to 1 instead of 0. This is why all Gigabyte users need IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext to get the drive icons to show up properly. Or so I think.

For reference see Intel's ICH10 spec page 553.

Hello. I've spent my two last nights making my installation working.

I've flashed several times my bios for P5QC but I still don't manage to get the 4 cores working. :D

I've spent many hours looking for modded bios for P5QC but there is pratically NOTHING about this MB.

Has anybody got this MB????????

I've found modded bios for ALL P5Q series MB except mine...

I'm desperate. I intend to kill myself. ;)

Well, I guess the title says it all, after spending a lot of time reading Documentations, Specifications, Forums.. and hunting for testers ;) , I finally got tehmachacker (thank you) to test a modified BIOS, and as expected, it worked.

This is the issue that intends this mod to fix:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=78235

Basically, what I'm doing is modifying and fixing errors in the DSDT; removing aliases for the "processor" devices, because the ACPIPlatform kext doesn't like them and treat them as other CPUs.. (it's written for Macs, and Apple doesn't use that in their Firmware's ACPI Tables, actually I don't see why we need them, well..)

I for example change this:

	Scope (_PR)
			 {
				 Processor (P001, 0x01, 0x00000810, 0x06) {}
				 Alias (P001, CPU1)
			 }

into:

	Scope (_PR)
			 {
				 Processor (P001, 0x01, 0x00000810, 0x06) {}
			 }

Sometimes I have to fix more stuff.. you should know that when you try to compile your DSDT.

So if you want to get a fixed BIOS, you can PM me post your request here, included with:

  • a direct link to the BIOS file,
  • your PC specs (CPU, Chipset and Graphics Card),
  • and a description of the issues.

Don't PM me with requests, post them in this thread.

You will find some of the modified BIOSes here.

Keep in mind that I take no responsibility for a bad flash or if anything goes wrong..

Hi Your inbox appears to be full...I`m trying to find a modded bios for Asus P5P4P1D Mobo presently 0207, I just want to get both of my Intel e5400 cpu cores working...any help would be greatly appreciated, Regards, Dave.

Well, I really appreciate this, since I'm stuck. Tried retail SL, retail Leopard, SL Hazard, SL Uni 3.5, iatkos v7, ideneb 1.5.1

I could all get them to install, only to kernel panic during install. Finally, I got iDeneb 1.5.1 installed (install DVD boots without flags!), but on reboot after install it won't go past "4096 cluster IO.buffer headers". Since IOAPIC is next (on the install DVDs), I assume that is the (first) problem. But no fix I could find, worked.

Mainboard: MSI P45T-C51 (7519 v1.1)

Intel P45 express+ICH10 chips

Realtek RTL8111/8168B Ethernet

Jmicron JMB368 IDE controller

Intel Core2 Quad Q8300

GTS 250 1 GB graphics

1 SATA disk, two partitions.

Bios link: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloadf...0&type=bios

Many thanks in advance,

Good news for those who has corrupted BIOS in MSI P35 NEO.

I am (actually I was ;) ) one of these "lucky" guys to modify 1A BIOS by myself and flash it, which made my mobo unbootable, however I was able to recover the it.

Here's what I did:

1. Connected a floppy drive (I though I'd never use it anymore, but having one somewhere saved me some ;) )

2. On another computer downloaded and installed latest BIOS (I request latest beta BIOS 1B1, which has Virtualization Technology support I needed, I attached it to this post as well), you can use any version that support your CPU.

3. Extracted the BIOS file A7360IMS.1B1 to A: and renamed it to AMIBOOT.ROM

4. Inserted floppy disk to "damaged" P35 Neo and powered it on.

5. Since we didn't modify anything in bootrom part of BIOS, it can be used to blindly restore BIOS, to start this feature you have to press Ctrl + Home buttons.

Now, here is important part:

6. Yet, it didn't work for me, but I have found that pressing Reset button and then pressing Ctrl + Home does work. And it began reading

7. Next thing, ti is documented that after some reading it will beep 4 times and then you can remove your floppy and reboot - again, this is {censored} - you have to let read and beep as log as need to. Only when you see a message on your screen (Oh, Jesus! the screen now works! :) ) that BIOS flashing is complete, only then you can remove floppy and reboot.

And that did it! It now works... Of course, Mac OS still doesn't, however I hope that eventually there will be solution for this as well. Maybe Kabyl will find newer tools to edit new BIOSes or at least will be able to move new CPU definitions to older versions?

By the way, how come that iDeneb install DVD boots just fine, but I am not able to boot Leopard after installation? I think I have tried all of kernels and kernel flags from com.apple.boot.plist on DVD to no avail.

Another thing I would add: choose your CPU wisely! The only reason for me to use new BIOS is that my CPU (DualCore e6300) is supported from 1A1 BIOS ver. So cheaper and fast enough is not always the best way to go.

Chears,

Marcus
