antaholics
just an interesting occurence.. I don't know if this is just by chance, but Vista now says my OEM key is invalid (haven't used Vista in a while, but I went back to it to do some benchamarking). Could this have ANYTHING to do with the OEM bios being modified? I think I'll have to contact Asus or MS if it continues, or I might be reinstalling Vista anyways
mac_air_head
Asus G1S-1A using modded 300 bios working. Both cores recognized. No longer have to boot with "cpus=1". Possibly my imagination, but OSX 10.5.2 actually feels more responsive. Running off external USB mini drive. Still able to run Vista off main SATA drive without issues. Thanks for the mod Kabyl. Kabyl
Hey Kabyl, could you please make me a modified bios for my Asus VX2S heres the bios link http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/BIOS/Othe...-BIOS-208.shtml Thanks man for all your hard work http://rapidshare.com/files/99644365/VX2SAs.208_mod.zip.html How about using the latest BIOS version? antaholics
I didn't reinstall yet, I am going to wait a couple of days for sp1 to come out first... test it, then reinstall it. Meanwhile, if it goes into limited functionality mode on me, i'll call up MS or something

Elkay
Is the issue with this not being possible with a Dell BIOS (i.e. my M1710) the fact that the BIOS is encrypted (or something of the sort), or is it that this fix is not really the same problem the Dells are experiencing? I'm just wondering if this is something I can investigate kernel-side, since I've built and have running my own Darwin 9.2.0 kernel. Perhaps then a custom kernel can get us by until the BIOS can be figured out. Any specifics you can give as to what you're changing in the BIOS code would be of great help then. Kabyl
Hi Elkay, Is the issue with this not being possible with a Dell BIOS (i.e. my M1710) the fact that the BIOS is encrypted (or something of the sort), Dell BIOSes are customized (I think they use _customized_ Phoenix BIOSes), I don't know of any tools to edit them.. or is it that this fix is not really the same problem the Dells are experiencing? And yes, it's not the same issue, but could also be in the ACPI Tables (I hope). Check the first post.. I have written a kext that will "Inject" the DSDT without needing to mod the BIOS, so this should work for more people (with _less_ risk). Currently, it's functional (at least for me), will do more testing and will release it when it's ready

I fixed things in the DSDT (usually there are always things to fix), so a kext is less risky to play with, and I don't think you have the MP issue.. lhlhenry
Kabyl: Thanks for your help of my MSI PR600 laptop. The Good News I can use AppleACPI/APIC.kexts of 10.5.1 now and Xbench score is 20~25 % higher than before modification of BIOS. Also It can Reboot/Shutdown normally except Sleep function which I don't mind at all. The Bad News is if I did not remove "cpus=1" in com.apple.Boot.plist, it always hangs just after Login Windows. The duo cores function is interfered by my Natit.kext which was used to activate Intel X3100 graphics. So your Modified BIOS is working for MSI PR600 without using X3100 ! Hi Jsl, I just saw that you have a pr600 laptop. I tried in vain to install kalyway´s leopard. It seem to get a kernel panic on install and then constant reboots. Can you tell me how did you managed to install on it? Thank you a lot.

jsl
Hi Jsl, I just saw that you have a pr600 laptop. I tried in vain to install kalyway´s leopard. It seem to get a kernel panic on install and then constant reboots. Can you tell me how did you managed to install on it? Thank you a lot. Before installation you should prepare 3 items: (1) Modified BIOS by Kabyl (2) External USB DVD-ROM or DVD-R/W device for booting DVD (3) External VGA monitor for booting screen My experience is using Kalyway Intel 10.5.1 DVD for booting and complete your installation. Rebooting with cpus=1 -v -f -s. Then edit your com.apple.Boot.plist and IONetworkingFamily.kext (AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext's Info.plist for 816810ec) for internal Ethernet card. For audio: using AppleHDA Patcher 1.20 and 883_Asus_P5KC_codec_dump.txt For display: using special Natit.kext and Apple ..X3100FB.kext from this board Another method without Natit.kext: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=94821 (I just got it working tonight.) After rebooting and repair permissions you should get everything working perfectly !
Gmarco
hi to all! I need some help, pleeeese! ;-) I have an asus A8SC ( z99S, T7500, nvidia 8400M, matu{censored}a dvd W), i tried to install: toh 10.4.8, jas 10.4.8 and kalyway 10.5.1 ... but no one boot from dvd (the notebook restarts continuously, using -x -legacy and cpus=1 too). Using vmware only jas boots, so I tried to install tiger in a partition, the installation ends but grub doesn't recognize the new OS (neither automatically neither editing menu.lst). I noticed that the partition size (in tigher installer) is wrong, the partition (and the entire hd) results smaller. I mounted the hfs+ partition using ubuntu, it seems all right ... what's wrong in my notebook? Someone can help me? Pleeeeeeeeeese Thanks
