jarobata
I just bought a Verbatim 4x DVD-RW because I was sick of creating coasters and it doesn't seem to work for installation, I thought Verbatim was a good brand but this seems to tell me otherwise. What brand should I have bought? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89673-good-dvd-rw-brands/ Share on other sites
Rizmaster
Buy 100 DVD-Rs for 15 dollars. You really shouldn't attempt to install an OS from a rewritable disc for a laundry list of reasons. I don't think it will work in the first place. As far as brands go (in general) I suggest Memorex, Sony, TDK or Phillips. naddy69
You must have a bad download. I use Verbatim DVD+RWs and they work fine. In fact, that's what I *always* use to test install each new OSX86 release. Only when I'm sure that I can install a particular distro do I commit a DVD+R to it. Save a lot of money that way. People who claim that "DVD+RWs won't work" are simply wrong. Actually, EVERYTHING I download gets put on RW first. If it works/installs, then I burn a permanent disc. The RW then gets re-used for the next project. I keep about a dozen RWs around for this purpose. mtotho
@rizmaster.. sure they are common brands but memorex, sony, tdk and phillips media suck. Listen to me "Word for word" Verbatim is the best. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89673-good-dvd-rw-brands/#findComment-639862 Share on other sites

Rufus T. Firefly
People who claim that "DVD+RWs won't work" are simply wrong. I used to think this way until my DVD-R's woudn't work. I used a DVD+R and it worked Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/89673-good-dvd-rw-brands/#findComment-639972 Share on other sites
naddy69
Which has nothing to do with RWs "not working for OS installs, due to a laundry list of reasons". There is no "laundry list of reasons" for Rewritable DVDs/CDs not working for OS installs. I have installed all manner of OSes - Windows, BeOS, OS/2, Solaris, Linux and OS X (on hacks and PPC Macs) using rewriteable media for years with no problems at all.
