How can I find out exactly which sigmatel chip is in my vostro 1500 laptop ?

I can see my integrated mic in the audio settings aswell as the line in jack.

i'm not sure, but you should see your exact model somewhere in bios setup, i've noticed that once.

If you can see integrated mic in the audio settings as well as the line in jack, they should be woking! are you sure it doesn't? maybe input level is too low or smth?

have you tried AppleHDA patcher method? if no, try it. just backup your current AppleHDA.kext.

Anybody tried iATKUS 5i iso? I see reports of V2 and V4....nobody here reporting on V5i.

I have downloaded and burned the iso...gonna make an image of my vista install first, then give it a shot.

Is it reasonable to assume shutdown, sleep and restart remains an issue?

Thanks

Can anyone upload working powermanagment.bundle for 10.5.5 , please (dell vostro 1500)?

When i try to change sleep mode via terminal i get "pmset: internal error!", I belive incorrect powermanagment bundle is responsible for that.

Hey Guys! 1st post and I already love this place!

I just ordered a Vostro 1500 and came across this thread. I read the majority of this and had a quick question.

What version would allow me to run a USB or Firewire audio interface with Logic Pro?

Im seeing iATKOS 5i version, I think that installs 10.5.5? Would I still need to do the video/audio fixes? would power off / restart / sleep work (dont care about sleep really)? If the power options do not work because of the audio patch, can I just not install that and route the audio to the USB/firewire device.

Do I not even need to worry about any of that in 5i?

I've been using the latest PPF patched version of iPC OS X 10.5.6 (PPF 5 Final Beta).

What works:

  • Vanilla Kernel, All cores work.
  • SMBIOS Resolver correctly displays all my system info.
  • QE/CI works with NVDarwin (8400M GS 128 MB)
  • Sound and Mic work with patched AppleHDA.kext.
  • Webcam works OOB.
  • Ethernet works with BCM4xxx kext.
  • Wireless works (detected as third-party wireless card).
  • Media Card works with proper kext.
  • USB works with USBMount Fix.
  • Battery Information and Meter work with latest PowerManagementBundle.
  • Time sync (RTC) works with CPUMdisabler (Can't remember exact name, but it's under "Alternate Disablers, last item)

What doesn't work:

  • Reboot/Restart/Sleep (Works until you install NVDarwin or any other injector, then reboot/restart cease to function properly. Unable to figure out EFI Strings or DSDT apparently).

All in all, a damn good distro with the latest version of OS X.

I'll attached the kexts I used.

IOSDHCIBlockDevice.kext will get the mediacard reader working.

AppleHDA will get audio (with internal mic) working (still needs HDAEnabler)

AppleHDA.kext_2.zip

IOSDHCIBlockDevice.kext.zip

HDAEnabler.kext.zip

I installed Windows 7 on second partition (the first is Leopard).

Then I tried some solutions for dual boot and here is my summary.

Old instruction for Vista helped well.

Dual Boot Mac Leopard & Windows 7 Seven using Darwin

1) Install Mac on the first partition (or any, if you don't)

2) Install Windows 7 on the second partition (or any)

3) Recover Darwin Bootloader usind Mac Installation DVD (

4) Boot from Windows 7 Install DVD

5) Choose your language, then click "Repair"

6) Choose Next - CommandPrompt and type:

7) diskpart

8) select disk 0

9) select partition 2 (Windows partition number)

10) active

11) exit

12) bootrec /RebuildBCD

13) y (Yes, confirm action)

14) diskpart

15) select disk 0

16) select partition 1 (put Mac’s partition number)

17) active

18) exit

19) exit (this 'exit' closes CommandPromt window)

20) Choose Reboot button

What i did:

DVD:iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 + V1.1 PPF

DVD installer boots up with kernel panic, if i press F8 and typed vanilla, then i got dvd to boot up and i got it installed.

I marked only main and PS2mouse & PS2keyboard fix.

Install ends successfully, after restart i got boot0: error( have tried different install configurations but still same error)

I booted up iAtkos 4i DVD and installed Darwin Bootloader and after restart my 10.5.6 install boots up nicely.

Then i added OSX86Tools and installed sound and IOSDHCIBlockDevice kext and NVDarwin video.

But i can't to get touchpad tapping to work?

I installed the iPC_OSx86_10_5_6_Universal_PPF5_Final release.

I can install just fine, but when the system reboots and loads the OS for the first time, the farthest it gets is a blue screen for a moment, then the screen turns off entirely.

Has anyone else come across this problem before? I've tried installing a few different video drivers and always get the same result.

Well first of all, what video card do you have? Because if you have Intel graphics, you're going to have a much harder time with this.

Second of all, if you have the NVidia graphics, you might want to try a different DVD, like iATKOS

It has Intel graphics. I recall reading this hasn't been able to work because if its shared video memory, correct?

Something like that. I think it might have more to do with the drivers than with the memory. It involves putting the computer to sleep and waking it up to bring the screen back. The instructions are somewhere around the forums.

Hi mates,

I have just updated from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6, everything* is working fine, just as 10.5.5. If any issues occurs, i'll update this post.

I updated my boot file (pc efi v8 ==> v9 from netkas).

Then downloaded 10.5.6 combo dmg,

installed "prepare for combo update" from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=109102 ,

installed combo update, did not restart,

installed "post combo update" (link above) with 3 flags marked "just restore my chipset" (no kernel nor video kexts needed),

restarted (it will do it twice) and everything* works.

*..except for sleep, shutdown/restart. These things weren't working with 10.5.5 as well.

If someone knows how to fix these issues, drop a note.

Ps.: I run dell vostro 1500 + leopard, installation method boot132+retail dvd => vanila kernel.

I'm checking out the latest iATKOS. That's version 5i. I'm having a hard time picking the options to add. Anyone else tried this? Any pointers? If I ever trial-and-error my way through this, I'll let you know what worked.

OK, what I did was this:

I installed iATKOS v5i.

Boot from the DVD, select HD, etc.

Under customize, here's what I selected:

Bootloader: PC EFI v9

x86 Patchers: Decrypters: AppleDecrypt

SMBIOS Enablers: I don't remember, I think I picked EFI Air

ACPI: X86 ACPI I picked that one because it said it wouldn't need PS/2 patches later on.

Disabler.kext

Remove Thermal Kexts

Drivers:

Graphics: I did NVKush. It seems to work better than either NVInject or EFI strings.

System: Intel SATA

Laptop Battery

NTFS-3G

Network: Broadcom 440x

Now when I restarted, I didn't have sound or network of course (I have Dell 1395). So I ran the Dell Laptops Post-Installer, and it didn't help. In fact, it screwed it all up. I had to go back to the first post of the thread to fix the sound manually, and go to that post on page 4 to insert the device ID into the plist file to fix the network manually. I don't know what's going on with the post-installer. Maybe it was just me. But I don't feel like doing the work it would take to disable the sound and test it again.

I'm almost ready to hold my breath and look into updating to 10.5.6, but I think I'll wait.

I am also thinking about testing the Voodoo kernel. I got sleep and shutdown working on my EEE PC with the voodoo kernel, but that has a different video card, of course.

I'll post results here.

I've read about 10 pages of this thread, and then skipped to page 15. Is there anyone here that have been able to get "everything" to work on a Vostro 1500 (or better yet Vostro 1400 since that is what I have.). If that is the case perhaps he/she can create a bootable ISO and make it available via a torrent site?

Also a suggestion: some of you actually manage to get it bootable and even run applications. So rather than starting over with an install everytime you crashed the system with a kext patch, wouldn't it be easier to run CCC imaging before the patch, do the patch to see if it worked then restore patch if it doesn't? My 2 cents.

I managed to get the latest iATKOS working with help from Gimmered. Start reading here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1074224

As for updating to 10.5.6, that works but be prepared to reinstall all mods including PS2 afterwards (so get your usb keyboard and mouse ready). The only things I haven't gotten working is the X3100 kexts (I've tried all I could find), and proper sleep behavior, which I suspect is related to not having the proper video kexts.

cmdrdata: If a set of kexts kills OSX, I just use a Windows with Macdrive installed to clear the offending kexts from /system/library/extensions/ and reboot into OS X. Its a whole lot easier and faster than re imaging the drive after every try.

I don't know how to make a bootable ISO of my install. What exactly do you mean?

But to answer your first question, I've gotten 'everything' to work on the Vostro 1500, except sleep/shutdown. I just played Warcraft 3 on it today and it played as well as on my real mac. Maybe better.

As for your CCC imaging, I finally grew a brain and tried that today when I installed the Voodoo kernel (which, by the way, didn't seem to add any functionality).

...

Descalzo, thanks. Looking at my own write up I guess it is stupid of me to even ask the question as making a bootable ISO doesn't make sense in the context I described. I've now gotten 3 DVDs burned (IPC final, Kalyway, and iATKOS_5i). This weekend I plan to remove the Vista HD from my 1400, and install an HFS+ journaled HD, and then try to boot using the Kalyway and iATKOS DVDs. Last weekend I tried the IPC disk, and it never booted very far. I got a kernel panic soon after the Apple logo showed up in the background.

i've been trying the 5i version and is having some issues. I am trying to boot the DVD and it gets to the white/grey apple screen and loads something forever and will not boot fully. what can I do to get the DVD to boot?

I had the same problem with booting 5i.

When I need to re-install the system, I boot from iAtkos 4i, install it;

then use package "Dell Laptop Post-Installer" (additional kexts and ability to update system)

and, finally, update system by official way (System Preferences -- Software Update).
