I've tried this and its works on my vostro 1500

I have installed iatkosv4. First I've copied appleHDA.kext to extension folder, then i run appleHDApatcher1.2 with yours stac9205 file.

Now I can use my built in microphone with skype.

I reinstalled iAtkos BS2.0 today on my Vostro 1500 and got everything working but the sound.

 

After looking for AppleHDAPatcher (it took hours to find it), I've tried EVERY SINGLE .TXT file out here on the boards. I've also tried the DellPackage (latest beta and stable package) and it doesn't fix the sound issue. Is there anything out there that I haven't tried yet? My Vostro is almost perfect and I've had the sound working before, so I don't know what the problem is.

 

Thanks guys for your help, this thread has evolved since the last time I tried installing OSX.

Try from the start:

1) Patch Stac9205 with AppleHDApatcher (Patcher, Stac9205.txt and Kext Helper Sigmatel 9205 with iATKOS (Leopard), Codec dump, problem and possible solution (post 168)

2) Don't reboot and install AppleHDA.kext No.3 from Sigmatel 9205 with iATKOS... - post 129

 

5 minutes ago I did it (after my reinstall iATKOS).

 

I tried and it's saying that my AppleHDA.kext was not installed properly. Even after repairing permissions, I still get the same thing.

Could you give us a step-by-step of your exact process? I'd like to help you out with this. I'll even reinstall again if it helps.

Sure. I've downloaded multiple Stac9205.txt files and AppleHDA.kext files, from different threads (I tried running through the little tutorials people have posted up). Once I download the files, I have all of the files on my desktop. I then drag the Stac9205.txt into the AppleHDAPatcherv1.20 application and it goes through it's little process. It detects output but no input. Next, I replace the AppleHDA.kext that I downloaded with the one that is under /System/Library/Extensions. After authenticating, I get the error message that states that OSX cannot use the kext and to report to my vendor.

 

Now from here, I have tried to repair permissions/reboot OR just reboot, but nothing works. Any help would be appreciated.

 

If you want to know more about my install, I have iAtkos BS2.0 (I think it's "BS"). I only installed the 9.2.2 Kernel, Broadcom 440 drivers and NVIDIA Nject drivers (NVIDIA laptop didn't work). I've also tried the DellPackage and that didn't work either. Thanks!

Did you try installing the kext you made with kext-helper?

 

That's all I've got for now. I'll look into it more later. I've got a busy evening ahead of me.

Yeah, I tried that as well. I've had my sound working before but I can't remember what I used, how I did it, etc. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Descalzo.

JaS 10.5.2 and Kalyways 10.5.1 and 10.5.2.. will install but Won't boot after the install.. and just hang..

 

What would be the best distro to start from?? and is anyone with a 1500 running 10.5.5 yet??

I'm sorry, but I have a feeling you'll find very little help here for your problem, because the gma graphics are quite a different story. Sorry.

Hey guys I am attempting to get OS X on my Vostro 1500 along with Windows XP. Unfortunately if I start with Leopard on first, Windows XP will refuse to go to its first boot, and when XP is installed first Leopard will not install because it complains about the MBR partition table format. Does anyone have a solution to this?

Yeah. That's the problem with graphics. It breaks startup and shutdown. I thought I heard somewhere that using a gfx string in your efi will fix it, but I've never got it to work.

Anyone had any success, or know of any success, of using "built-in" 3G or EVDO cards on this unit?

 

I've got a 1500 dual booting OS X 10.5.2 and XP. Recently I borrowed the AT&T 3G internal WWAN card for this unit. It works fine under XP (well, there have been a few BSODs, but that may be due to other factors). When I first installed that card I already had the AT&T communication manager installed. It worked with that. Then I downloaded the Dell software and have been using that.

 

I was wondering if I downloaded something like the Sierra Wireless program if I could get it to work.

 

Yeah, yeah... I should try it, I know.

 

I think the missing link is the driver for the card itself under OS X.

I though that it cannot be fixed

I used "OpenHaltRestart.kext" from here.... Shutdown and restart is also not work

Can U tell me step by step to fix it?? :)

No, what I'm telling you is that I don't know how to fix it. I had heard that EFI strings were supposed to fix it, but it didn't work for me.

Intel Core 2 Duo T5670, 1.8GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2M L2 Cache

256MB NVIDIA#174; GeForce#153; 8400M GS Graphics

Realtek ALC268 sound card

160G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card

 

I want to run 10.5.5 exclusively on it and while I'm waiting for my computer, I've been doing some research and it looks like the best distos for this would be Kalyway, boot-132, JaS, and iATKOS. It seems like they all work, with Kalyway and iATKOS being the most popular, but is there one clear disto that would work the best for me? Thanks!

Dual boot with existing images.

 

I purchased a bigger drive to put in my vostro 1500. I was hoping to copy both the windows xp image from the current drive and the osx installation I have on an external usb drive. I seem to run into trouble with the fact that vostro has a bunch of special partitions which need to be copied (lsa-3 problem is one of them) and then I also need the OSX image. I am aware of a bunch of dual boot threads but none seem to address the specific vostro partitions problem. Anyone any luck with this?

install method: boot 132 + retail DVD

used 10.5.2 for about a month, then updated to 10.5.5 using combo update from apple and Combo_Update_Patches.1.2.0.zip from MysticusC, thread here.

Install "prepare for combo update" than combo update, (DO NOT RESTART), "post update" with options: 9.5 vanilla kernel, NVInject with proper memory size, everything else: "just restore my chipset"... as far as i remember.

read the first post of the thread in the link above carefully to understand what are you doing.

 

things i used to fix:

battery meter: MY_BUNDLE_V0.8 BASE.zip (originally built to eeePC, but works just fine for me)

keyboard: PS2Fix1054 from here (internal keyboard stopped working after 10.5.5. used usb keyboard while searching for this fix)

sound: AppleHDA.kext (uploaded below for 10.5.5, for 10.5.2 i used appleHDA patcher and stac9205.txt)

everything else: Dell post installer should help

if you still need to fix your video card - 9f23installer.pkg from here

if you need to connect external display, google for "change NVCAP string"

 

remember! ALWAYS have a backup, i have a copy of working partition, made with os x disk utils. I test everything on the other partition and after success i make changes on my working partition. I also have retail dvd and usb stick with boot 132 inside in case i mess up with my boot options.
