<br />Hmn, well im on a laptop so i don't think i have access to my HD...<br />

Almost any laptop I have seen has a little cover that is removed that gives access to the hard drive allowing you to upgrade the drive by removing the tray that is in there and putting another in it so you most probably can remove yours. The 2.5" SATA external enclosure that I use was bought on Ebay it cost me $10 landed at my door I have seen IDE ones for similar prices also it does not have to be a laptop external drive you use if you already have another one then you can install to it boot it then use this install to put the OS X on the laptop's hard drive.

I'm a big fan of prepping the drive from another install... its the best way to go

Yeah as we all know Apple is a "special case" case not every manufacturer is as interested in service revenue as them thankfully...

Got her going with the noob method- just had to fix the sound (GA P35 DS3L)...

any way to change the 'hack.in.tosh' from the boot rom version?

On the post install reboot I used F12 to pick from the Kalyway or Retail drives but saw the retail drive had no label and when I selected it, it refused to boot saying it was a 'foreign OS', but unplugging the Kaly drive let it boot without issue into the retail drive...

Thanks!

I just ordered the parts & the OS X install a few hours ago. I'm quite excited in anticipation of receiving the components and to be able to build this machine!!!! So much so, that when I ordered the Mac OS X, I bought the family pack hoping that this would work just fine, and that I'd want to install this on another system or notebook or two!!

Anyway, the SIG has my components ordered, and I will post back with success report or with possible problem reports / help request.

Go ahead and download the v4.1 pack - use the kexts in that pack instead of the ones in the noob guide. They will clean up your install (boot rom, etc)

Just be careful - replace on kext at a time based on the kexts you replaced via the noob guide

eventually, you can keep the kext you like to use in a folder on your desktop and use your own method to reinstall them after updates...the post-patch.sh in the v4.1 download may be of help if you can adjust for your needs

seems to me like you are good to go - all those are common components around these parts. I suggest you download my v4.1 file kit and start to prepare for your install. You should be able to use the v4.1 as it is... the only adjustment will be for your sound. And easy solution is to download the P35 oxs86 control center, its in my guide and was made by PCWWIZ. You can run the Sound fix...but don't run the other fixes as they will conflict with my v4.1 install. You are going to want one more HD for your Time Machine BTW

I'm trying the v4.1 guide for advanced users>' Step 4- Run post-script.sh, #5. Change directory to v4.1 on your desktop' >> how do i do this??

I have edited the post-patch.sh per Step 1. -#15.

Right now in Terminal I get - ./post-script.sh No such file or directory

Thanks!

I'm starting to hear that its my BIOS setting that is stopping my screensaver from locking properly...

Logging out then logging back in fixes it until you restart again, so something doesn't load right after a restart.

cd /users/yourusernamehere/desktop/v4.1

or type "cd" then drag the v4.1 folder from the desktop to the terminal screen and it will input the path automatically

Thank you sir!

I need some help with the post-patch.sh editing... ( I realize the v4.1 is for 'advanced' users, but bear with me :P)

Aside from changing 'DESTINATION' to the name of my retail install hard drive what changes to the file MUST be made?

I am getting a lot of 'no such file or directory' when I run the post-patch

Where it says "DESTINATION=BOOT" you change "BOOT" to where you are installing the OS. So if your hard drive is named "MacintoshHD" it would look like "DESTINATION=MacintoshHD". That's all you change. This will replace all the "$DESTINATION" with "MacintoshHD" when you run the script.

Anything you don't want to install in the script put a "#" in front of it (called commenting it out).

Ok, thanks again... I appreciate your help... I will play with it some more...

Whoopee!!

Thanks a bunch 3vj3- after multiple attempts from scratch it all came down to editing the post patch, or rather editing it correctly :)

It's a good day when you learn something new...

LTL .. I will appreciate your thoughts on my problem.

I have GA-EP35-DS3P board and with Radeon 2600 XT (HD) ..

I didn't use exactly all your instructions .. I used Jas 10.5.4 and had video up .. and with you kexts i was able to get the power on/off working as well as sound (using your HDA for ALC889A) .. I selectively chose kexts from your 4.1 figuring I only needed some of them only.

Well that worked fine and I had sound

Then I got greedy .. I wanted the profiler to say I had a real audio device .. so I figured why not try EFI to see if the string fix will do it .. well now I lost sound altogether.

I reapplied your patch (HDA) .. but that doesn't work anymore I guess there is a string patch screwing it up .. so I have 2/3 questions

- is there a way to undo the EFI string patch safely ?

- Can I ever get the darn "About this mac" to say I have audio device ?

-- I had the same problem with Leo4allV3 ande iATKos4i ..

- Is there a harm in system thinkiing I don't have an audio device .. but the sounds work anyways.

Thanks

1. If you get your system running correctly... don't go messing with it! Make an image of it - see my back up and restore guide

2. If you get your system working, make sure you take each step with a clear way to undo what you have done

3. You can undo EFI strings by restoring your vanilla com.apple.boot.plist - safely

4. You can download the GigabyteP35CC by PCWIZ to fix your audio, it will also fix "About this mac" its down at the bottom under tools in my GUIDE

5. If your sound is working by patching with Taruga and EFI strings, then who cares what your "About this mac" says

--but after you patch with the tool, it will say what you have.

Good Luck... If you have the time, do a fresh install via v4.1 - so you have a fresh copy of vanilla files and know more about what you have replaced under the hood

OK, I have almost everything working fine, but... I have a USB external HD that I want to use for Time Machine and/or Super Duper. However, Super Duper gives me a "UUID 35" error, saying can't spotlight on the external, and Time Machine can't find the external. Any thoughts or ideas how I can fix this, I can copy items manually to the external just not with Super Duper, Carbon Copy, Time Machine..

Thanks.

Thanks .. I redid the full install .. I wanted to make sure I can retrace my steps.

Now I have everything working with one one minor caveat ( I did use PCWIZ app to fix audio)

- Now I see Two "Intel High Definition Audio" in the profiler !!

But it's much better now .. one more thing left to fix ( time machine ) .. but other than that i am happy camper .. thanks for your response.

LTL , thank you for the guide. I spent the day installing the Retail 10.5 Mac os x on my pc and im like a kid in a candy store trying to get things going. I will admitt , im a noob but your advanced guide was incredibly easy to use and to be honest was much easier then your noob guide.

my 2 problems atm are :

Model Name: Mac

Model Identifier: P5K Deluxe

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 1.87 GHz

L2 Cache: 4 MB

Memory: 6 GB

Chipset Model: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT

PCIe Lane Width: x16

VRAM (Total): 512 MB

the cpu is a 2.3 and the video is slowish. Im having fun searching and trying to solve the problem though. I recomend this guide to any and all . Keep up the good work.

You just have your monitor plugged into the wrong port on your video card, change ports and reboot... i had the same problem.

... as well, which solution are you using for your 8800GT? NVKush seems to be the choice de jour

LTL,

In the "10.5.x GUIDE v4.2 FOR THE ADVANCED USER" in the " Step 4 – Run post-script.sh" I think that instead of the word "script" should be the word "patch" as well in the sub-steps of the Step 4: "6: TYPE: ./post-script.sh". In the V4.2 folder there's no "post-script.sh" but a "post-patch.sh".

Another thing, there are two Steps 4: "Step 4 – Run post-script.sh" and "Step 4 – Installing Chameleon".

You can add me to your list of users who have sucess install Leopard by your method. :D

Thank you for your work,

I used a combination of EFIstudio and nvinjector v.52 ( at work on a difrent system ) I also used a kext installer that came with one of the other drivers i needed , it worked beatuifully for installing all my other drivers like sound , ethernet and odds and ends i have in the system.

as for pluged into the wrong port : The video is smooth , its things like .Gifs and ( yes im a dork) world of warcraft that show the poor performance. When i get home I will change ports and see if that resolves the isue. If not then i will try the nvkush.
