Thanks for the great info. I know I did my install completely wrong  ... it went way too smooth and I forgot the whole terminal mode part with all the command prompts... I simply did a format drive, reboot, install, reboot, and I'm there... Way easeir to install than XP. ;) I'm now booting my Asus P5K-E Wifi with 10.5.2, but in the safe mode (-x), 1024x768 only, no sound, no wifi.

How do I now go back and load (or fix) the video driver and sound driver? I see you have a 3870 file in your post. Can I fix video and sound, or do have to completely reinstall the OS?

Thanks in Advance,

iMafia

I would find the specific files you need for your MOBO, then download the v3 listed in the "Advanced Guide". Add the files you need to the kext folder, modify the scripts and patch your install. That should do it. Netkas even has a new 3870 installer.

Installed kaly on my 80 gig drive then partitioned second drive with 3 partitions one for leo and two for storage GUID. Unmounted Macintosh partition and other 2 partitions in disk utility. Am I not understanding a step?

Still permission issues.

"foo-fs-ep35c-ds3r:~ foof$ cd /Volumes/MacOS/Users/foof/Desktop/EFI/pc_efi_v80

foo-fs-ep35c-ds3r:pc_efi_v80 foof$ ./startupfiletool /dev/rdisk1s2 ./boot_v8

startupfiletool: opendev(/dev/rdisk1s2): Permission denied"

Okay, I know it is something simple right?

If you have another moment, please swing me a concerned reply. Thanks. - snipet ;)

Great info btw. Very pleased.

You did not use sudo on front of the second command you need to have root privileges when doing it even better use sudo -s type in the root password then every command after this will be as root.

I suggest that you use the Chameleon EFI emulator instead of EFI_V8. It's Open Source, has some nice extra features & uses an installer package so you don't need to muck around with terminal to get it working. h**p://chameleon.osx86.hu/

In relation to "replacing same board make files" at end process in NOOB section

what do you think is going on with the Extensions mkext & ACPI Platform kext?

"bash-3.2# sudo cp kext/IONetworkingFamily /Volumes/Macintosh/System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/MacOS/

bash-3.2# sudo cp kext/AppleACPIPlatform /Volumes/Macintosh/System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/MacOS/

cp: kext/AppleACPIPlatform: No such file or directory

bash-3.2# sudo rm -r /Volumes/Macintosh/System/Library/Extensions.mkext

rm: /Volumes/Macintosh/System/Library/Extensions.mkext: No such file or directory"

The ACPI Platform kext is shown in my efi kext folder and the Macintosh directory. Extensions mkext is not in either. I am hoping this is negligible? ; )

Thanks again.

On a second note I do have an EP35 board. I might just use another guide. Specifically http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=95910# .

karaakeha1 - LTL - LS8

don't you think it will be a great idea to group your 3 pack (and method) in order to have the simpliest way for doing a vanilla install ?

(LS8 know that i'm about finish the writting of an install script (grouping post and pre install) .... but htere is a part that i did not know : kext and kernel mod ..)

Another thing that is boring me , it's impossible to know which kext we must apply after retail install (we all have the same hardware here Ggigabyte P35 ICH 9 /R motherboard ...)

HARDWARE 1

10.5.0 10.5.1 10.5.2 10.5.3

kext

HARDWARE 2

10.5.0 10.5.1 10.5.2 10.5.3

kext

etc ....

simple as that ...

why that because in the build of an os x server i can notice a perfomance issue between 10.5.2 (LTL way ) and 10.5.3 (full retail)

so i suppose it's a porblem of kernel OR kext ...

some speak about vanilla .... but they use modified kernel .... very strange ... for newbies as me ...

When I installed the retail 10.5.3 upgrade using this very good guide I used a mix of the advanced and the noob guide. This cause I found out the only problem I had with the advanced guide was how to navigate between folders and how to type in that backwords (leaning from left to right) slash.

So in order to make the right things happend I cheated and copied and pasted a few lines from the noob guide (navigating between folders stuff) to save time. Then I borrowed a Power off bug fix from another install 10.5.3 guide here since I went for the latest mach_kernel to get my USB drives and stuff working. Then to get my hacks working both the Gigabyte P35-DS3R with a GA Gforce PCIe 7300gs 256 mb videocard and my old Asus P4P800SE with a PNY Geforce AGP 8x 256mb I used this Nvinject.kext from Mysticus Cs package that I modified the NVCAP on myself. Check out my thread in the Hardware and Drivers if you need more info about it

Here is some info for GA-P35-DS4 with SATA HD. Booting is really fast.

It takes 10 seconds once apple logo shows up.

Just discovered how to speed up boot of Leopard on GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS4 motherboard !

Change in BIOS:

Integrated Peripherals/SATA RAID/AHCI mode to Disabled

Integrated Peripherals/SATA Port 0-3 Native Mode to Disabled

And long wait will vanish !

LTL- Many thanks for the updates to this guide!

As you may recall from this and other threads I had gone down the road of the Vanilla 9.3.0 kernel and corresponding system kext. I am re thinking that decision as i have picked up two problems that are quite annoying (some sounds, like that of a sent email, sound garbled and my system clock funs slow). After some research it comes down to the Vanilla kernel not being compatible with my processor, the Q9300. Others solve the problem by using the Modbin kernel from the Kalyway kernel installer (not sure if there are other sources for the kernel). I am curious if you have tried that kernel? The only advantage i can think of over the kernels that you include in V3 is this one is a modified 9.3.0 kernel so the 9.3.0 system kext can be used.

The last question that I have is what kernel was included in your v2? I see that in v3 there are three kernel, kernelSS and KernelSR I perhaps wrongly assume that one of them is the kernel i had been using with v2. EDIT- I have looked again and now see that the default from the post patch script was the sleep kernel.

as always-thanks again

3vj3-

I see in your signature that you have USB trouble because of mismatched kernel to system kext. My question is why dont you replace the system kext with the correct version for the kernel that you want to use? At one point I had the same problem LTL's v2 9.2.0 kernel with the 10.5.2 system kext (9.2.2) I replaced the system kext with the 9.2.0 and usb came back to life.

Red Oak, I have similar CPU to yours. Sure wish I find this thread before I bought my gear. Currently running Kalyway 10.5.3 with sleep kernel 9.2 (sleep and shutdown OK). I intend to install retail DVD over this weekend. Hope can share experience with you.

Intel Q9300

2GB RAM

Motherboard GA-EP35-DS3

Nvidia 8800GT

One of the kernels that LTL includes in the v3 file pack is the is the 9.2.0 sleep kernel. You will discover that the Q9300 requires a modified kernel to work 100%. I have been using the Modbin 9.3.0 kernel with 10.5.3. It works well but lacks support for s3 sleep. I have been tempted to go back to the 9.2 sleep kernel when I update to 10.5.4. but I am beginning to be concerned about running the older kernel with the newer updates.

All Bad Axe 2 owners seem to need to have to reapply EFI after installing for some reason, for more information look at BadMooses guide :)

EDIT: Anyone finds there Retail Install takes for bloudy ever to boot? Takes effing ages too boot for me :/

I wonder for those who is using Q6600, whether they have similar problem.
