Hopefully, I used to be so good at this lol. I never had trouble with my video before and now I get trouble with it on almost every install, it's weird.I too only have a few hacked kexts. 4 for ICH9 AHCI, SMBIOS, AppleHDA and RealtekR100. That's it.Didn't work. Did all the updates, restarted, replaced the Boot.plist with the one with ONLY the graphics EFI string and I was booted with a blank/black screen. Same as before, any ideas?

Ok you guys, this weekend I'll buy all the stuff needed to bring my own hackintosh alive and kicking.

The only thing I'm not sure off is the motherboard.

I'm still hesitating between the GA-P35-DS3P rev 2.x and GA-P35-DS4 rev 2.x. Any thoughts or remarks are greatly appreciated

EDIT: Or maybe just another mobo :P

I always install retail 10.5.0> update everything > put EFI strings for my 2 gpu's (so no NVInject or other kexts are needed), one for audio (so no ALCInject is needed), and one for ethernet (to fix Time Machine).

Like you,, I'm shooting for as close to a vanilla install as possible. I have used the EFI strings to get my 800GT 512MB Geforce card working, but can you post your plist files for audio and ethernet? I keep making the same mistakes over and over and do not see what is wrong. Thanks.

PS: Asus P5W DH Deluxe if that matters.

You can't go wrong with a P35-DS3L/R/P or a P35-DS4 :D

I have a feeling I might be getting this issue because of an incorrect NVCAP setting so I will mess around with that and post back if I can get it to work.

Good idea, you must be absolutely sure that the values in your EFI string are correct. Just keep trying until it works

I see some differences between de DS3P and DS4. As I understand by finding out here on the forum there are some issues with shutdown/reboot/sleep on those boards.

Therefore LTL, can you manage to get those 3 working? Get the pc out of sleep after several days instantly?

Sleep/Wake works perfectly on my DS3P board, Shutdown and Reboot do not (vanilla 9.2.2 kernel).

I think you can fix shutdown/reboot with the netkas sleep kernel LTL mentioned earlier, but i haven't tried this myself.

Sleep works on the GA-EP35-DS4 once you update the BIOS to the most recent (F3). Shutdown and restart work too. EFI strings fixed my video, audio, and time machine.
It can't be NVCAP stuff because that is only changeable in NVinject. I'm stuck.
I think I read somwhere that EFI strings don't work with NVInject installed.

I'm not using NVinject with EFI. And actually I was wrong, you can change the NVCAP with an EFI string.

Hi LTL,

Thanks for the great guide. I went out and bought the parts identical to yours, well almost. I followed your instructions step by step and it worked out very well. I learned alot from this post and the forum. However I have some questions. I have a Dell LCD right now, I want to get another LCD. I have a CRT, but when I connected it, it's not showing anything. Another thing, how did you get your xbench score to over 200? I could only get a little over 180, but my geekbench score is around 5100. That's it for now. Again, thanks for a great guide. I was inspired by it and decided to do it. Never been happier...

first i did'not install from a kalyway hard drive install ie i install from kalyway dvd leopard 10,5,2 (my two hard drive sata were blank formated ;-)

so i do everything from kaliway dvd (very powerfull) diskutility and terminal

the only thing that is boring me (but everything works oob for a leopard 10,5 server install) i canno't do the vsdbutil -a /Volumes/Macintosh command ... it said :

/usr/sbin/vsdbutil can't take ownerships read only file system .... but no problem after reboot etc

I CONFIRM that os x server leo 10,5,2 is working

any idea , must i reinstall ? (because of this {censored}y vsdbutil ?)..

Installed the TimeMachine and Airport update as well as the 10.5.3 with no problem. Everything still works, although apple seems to have missed (or didn't bother with) a few bugs.

I booted from my 2nd leopard partition. Ran the installer package (the one from apple) and installed on my main leopard partition, then reran the post-script with most of the stuff edited out (faster than typing them). Sleep, shutdown, restart, and time machine all working. :)

[edit] scratch that, I had to repatch audio

I am getting ready to install 10.5.3 on my test partition. I am curious about what 3vj3 edited out of the post patch script? I am most curious about the mach kernel? Did you install the 9.2.0 from LTL's v2? (NOTE: I did this with 10.5.2 after the TM update and also had to add the matching system kext to get USB and Firewire to work.) I have become very accustomed to having sleep reboot and shutdown working.

I will post my results and I am looking forward to LTL's report on 10.5.3

Oh yes, i'm still deciding what TFT's to buy to get 4 screens :D

I'm also gonna try 10.5.3 this weekend, so i'll report if it works (or trashes everything).

I got a pair of the Samsung 245T LCD's.. S-PVA based panels. They are nice, very bright. One has a bit of a buzz. They need a lot of adjustment, but i'm starting to get used to them and they are really really nice. Do lots of homework and if you can afford, get x-IPS based screens, they are pricy, but its what Apple uses and ... man they are so nice, of course PVA based are second best and the affordable ones are TN based

hope that helps

Thanks, I'll look into them!

Update to 10.5.3 went flawless, only had to patch AppleHDA again with Taruga's (thx!) patcher.

I'm still using his v1. Don't see any need to do the v2 yet since everything is working fine. The stuff I edited out was backup kexts, boot.plist, HDA, just stuff I didn't need to do again. You really don't have to edit anything out, except maybe the "sudo cp -r extra/com.apple.boot.plist /Volumes/$DESTINATION/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/" so you can keep your own one. I kept the rest because I didn't know what 10.5.3 replaced.

On my Leopard test partition that I installed using the v2 script, I was able the install the v1 script over it with no problems (since my main drive uses the v1).

I can't mount any USB devices now. :) I looked at the USB mounting problem thread and it said that the problem is caused by non-matching kernals. mach_kernal is 9.2.0 and system.kext is 9.3.0. Going to see if upgrading to 9.2.2 fixes it.

You need a 9.3.0 kernel to match 9.3.0 system.kext...Just look at what you typed.

I know, but there isn't a 9.3.0 one yet right?

Ignore my previous posts. :) I just need to install the one from the update. Guess I replaced it with the old one when I reran the scripts. It works now lol

That's it, I'm going to bed.

--------

Ok got some sleep. With the 9.3.0 vanilla kernel the USB drives mount, but sleep, restart, shutdown, and the security lock for my screen saver don't work ( ). With the 9.2.x only the USB mounting don't work. I can live with the USB drives not mounting for now, but not the security lock. So I'll be sticking with 9.2.0 for now.
