20,000 members. That’s incredible! I had no idea when we started this site back in July that it would grow so large – thanks to you it’s become one of the best Mac forums online in just a few months time.

To celebrate our 20,000th member, I’m giving away my iPod. There’s no gimmick, we’re not doing it to be cool or trendy – I just have a pristine 40 gig Click Wheel iPod (along with cables and cases) that I want to give to a member of our forum . You may be saying, “Why would I want a 4G when the 5G iPods are so much better?” Well, the main reason this one is better because it’s free. The second reason is that it comes fully stocked with 40 gig of my favorite music, ranging from The Beatles to Beethoven to… well… just about everything. Since the giving away of digital music is still a legal grey area (the courts haven't figured it out yet), just be sure to delete all the music when you get the iPod. Mkay? Mkay.

Anyway, getting this iPod couldn’t be any simpler. Here’s how:

1. Post on the forum. The winner must have at least 231 posts by the contest’s end on March 1. The site staff will be making sure that your posts are substantial, helpful, and kind.

2. Post in the new forums. That means that helpful guides in the Genius Bar and threads in “Reviews” will score you more (imaginary) points.

3. Nominations. Who you think should win? Every forum member can send one nomination to ipod@osx86project.org with the subject of “iPod Nomination”. And yes, you can nominate yourself. :graduated:

Pretty easy, huh? On March 1, the site staff will compile all that data and decide who should win. The contest starts today and it’s a blank slate – someone with 500 posts right now isn’t any better off than the person who only has 3.

I hope this will be a fun contest – we’re doing it because we like to do crazy things and this is a good way to reward you for helping us make The OSx86 Project the excellent community it has become.

I would nominate Maxxuss too but I think he could afford 100 of those and some, had he put up google ads on his site .

I have a better idea, ebay that pod thingy and get some OSx86 Project case badges, stickers, hats, t-shirts, bras/panties, and condoms made and distribute them to the 4 corners of the world.

Do you think that there would really be a market for OSx86 bras and panties?

[Comment inserted by Metrogirl - before anyone suggests it I am NOT volunteering to model said bras and panties - no how, no way!]

Oh, and just email the nominations to the address. But yeah, I'm sure we'll get a lot of nominations for maxxuss, but posting is also key.

You don't see that as selling out? :)

Yeah, we have had some conversations about selling some "swag", but like shard points out, that does seem like going out of the way just to make money, which isn't what we're about at all.

I'll be posting a poll about it soon, but let's keep this thread on topic. :)

231... because its 2/3/..06 wait nvmd scrap that. My theory doesn't work.

1st choice nomination: Maxxuss

2nd choice nomination: munky

3rd choice domination: Mashugly himself (yeah, I mean he'd literally have to mail the iPod.. to himself. I'm just nominating him because that'd be mad funny and I have no life and I think it'd be cool)

:)... - there is none. We thought it should be over 200 and that number sounded like a good one.

Haha takuro - I can see it now. "Mashugly, I want to present you this, your own iPod..."

I know shard thinks this is selling out, but where are the 'proof of concept' panty/bra pics with models? heh

Selling out? HAHA, I didn't mean to imply "distribute" meaning to "sell". I meant like have a monthly draw for prices. Prices would be either a software or hardware donated by someone.

Case badges would be of course free and plentyfull. I know a geat hardware site that have a distro point in asia, europe, the americas. They would be contacted if you lived in that zone and they would mail it to you for free. t-shirts, bras/panties, and condoms was a joke, but the model concept looks interesting.

I'd vote for Maxxuss, but he'll already get enough wins. I'll vote for you Mash. :)

Vote for Mash? Come on now, all he does is Admin, pays for hosting, makes our stay here as pleasant as possible, moderate, post news, organize, and gives out free stuff. I think he's over rated! :)

That's true. It's not like he put out the first bootable installation patches or anything.

Not too sound like a party pooper or a troll , but for the peeps that do mostly reading, the requirements are too steep or too much favor for the regulars, BUT im not the one to complain and not come with an idea, Why not just raffle it?

really. one entry per person that has posted. then raffle , if they dont respond withing 48hr's , move to the next.

seems fair instead of requireing 200+ posts

I know shard thinks this is selling out, but where are the 'proof of concept' panty/bra pics with models? heh

NOW that makes sense!!! ebay it and put the procedes towards something useful or a non profit or a charity in the name of OSX86project.org

somehow am i clinbimg towards the 231 posts required? .. bah.. oh well

Well, I think the idea is that we want someone who has posted some in the past, so that someone doesn't just show up for the iPod. However, I've seem some people easily get over a hundred in a few weeks, so it's definitely doable if you're dedicated enough. :)

Whats the significance of the number 231?

I found it! 231 backwards is 132, which is quintal for 42 in the decimal number system! Behold my mathematical skills! :)

Also, 231 in quintal is equal to 42 in hexadecimal! Oh, Mash and your number systems! :)
