So I changed my BIOS hard drive setting to ACHI and all of a sudden my desktop icons changed from the grey-disk image to the orange external image. Why it this? Also, is there a way to get a custom icon? I'd like to make my Windows drive have a Windows-looking icon. Thanks!

thats not actually a fix, all you're doing is updating the icon, they are still 'removable' drives. there are 2 things you can do to really fix this.

1: set your SATA BIOS options to be in 'IDE' mode.

2: find the patched AHCI kext that will set them as non-removable.

Hi sg,

Actually, you are right, it is not a fix as in Leo the AHCI drives are seen as e-sata. However, I find it really useful being able to add and eject drives on the e-sata back plate of my computer. There is no other speed disadvantage other than the icon showing as removable drives but all the advantages of ejectable drives.

thefinalprophecy,

On the other hand, you can set the bios to IDE mode, but you will lose speed as AHCI gives faster access times. I do not have any NTFS drives on my computer, what icon do they show up as.

they show up the same as the other internal sata drives that are being recognized as e-sata. if you look at my original screenshot at the top, the one labeled "Untitled" is my Windows partition on an internal sata drive. Neither my internal windows NTFS drive, nor my external NTFS My Book drive show up in CandyBar for some reason.
