Hi,

I'm new to these forums, but I hope someone can help me. I have an Asus G1S-A1 laptop and have been trying to install Leopard on it, first with an iATKOS DVD (which ran into some ACPI kernel dependency bug thing) and now the Kalyway release (several guides say this is the only one that works). But for some reason, when I burn the ISO (~4.37GB big) to the DVD and try to boot it, it doesn't load the darwin bootloader at all. It just starts loading Windows like normal. Is the Kalyway DVD bootable, or am I missing something? I've tried burning the DVD twice to no avail. I even tried loading Darwin with the iATKOS DVD and then switching to the Kalyway when it asked for boot options, but that just made the computer reboot or continually tell me to press any key to install OSX. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but i'm stumped. Any help is most appreciated.

alright this might sound real wierd, but it was the solution to a problem i had that took weeks to sort out.

I have a rock laptop, and i tried atkos 1st, but it wouldnt boot, and the tried kalaway, and although initially promising, it wouldnt book either.

Basically throughout the install proccess, the loading bar would freeze, then move again when i moved the mouse (i dont know if it happened with you). Anyway, this would happen, then it would stop at saying "less than a minute to install". I would restart and it might boot once, but only once.

What i did to solve this is throughout the whole install, i kept the mouse moving all the time. I know it sounds stupid, but i tried installing about 12 times, and this was the only successful way i found of installing it (and yes i was running off the main elec all the time)

Let me knwow if this wierd way works for u.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. My problem is that I can't even run the Kalyway INSTALLATION from the disc. It skips right over it and starts loading Windows. Almost like the Darwin bootloader is missing. So I can't even get to the point where you're supposed to press F8 to install with extra options, because Darwin doesn't show up at all. And yes, I have set the boot priority in BIOS to DVD first. Thanks for the attempt, though.

Yes, I have enabled booting the DVD drive, and it's been tested and working with an iATKOS DVD, but I can't access the installer on that release because it gets stuck on the notorious ACPI kernel dependency bug i've been hearing about a lot. The Kalyway release doesn't boot, but the iATKOS one does.

Edit: If it helps, i've been burning the DVDs with MagicISO. iATKOS burns fine, but I guess Kalyway's boot info doesn't get burned properly? Do you think the problem's related to that?

Exact same problem on my Presario 2500 except it wouldnt load iAtkos. What I did was swap hd out, put in other laptop, install, and swap back in. Works perfectly but not everybody has an extra laptop.

Okay, I think i've found out (one of) my problem(s). According to the Hardware compatibility wiki, my laptop needs the older ACPI kexts from 10.4.8. I had been replacing those files and deleting the Firewire kexts from the ISO and re-saving it. Apparently, the boot information doesn't get saved in MagicISO, so that's why it wouldnt' boot from the DVD. However, I tried burning the normal release, and it did boot, but it just got stuck on some buffer screen (similar to where it gets stuck in iATKOS). So how can I modify the ISO but still allow it to keep its boot information when saving it? Is there a better program out there than MagicISO that will do that?

I have the same problem here too.

I built a system (p5w DH, E6550 c2d), and tried booting from DVD (setting all the bios settings exactly like http://lifehacker.com/348653/install-os-x-...acking-required ) but it just says "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

The bios detects my dvd reader/writer (its on an IDE port) but doenst boot. Tried burning the ISO with Toast and with DiskUtility on different kinds of DVD's (dvd-r and dvd+r) but won't help either way.

Any ideas??? It's a completely fresh system...

*edit* switching cables works... which is VERY strange because other OS are bootable. Well, first problem solved (just reminds me how many things will make a difference when installing).

  • 1 month later...

welll i cant switch my HD to another laptop, and i have the same dvd as you. I have it burnt to a dvd-r and I have no idea why it wont boot up.

I am on a dell inspiron 1525, everyone else doesnt seem to have the problem, and ive had them on both of my computers with different dvds, i remember using a 10.4.5 one on my desktop, couldnt boot, and the 10.5.1 on this laptop, and wouldnt boot

There has to be an easy way to fix this seeing as barely anyone else post about this
