grnavigator
Do you have the SATA disk in AHCI mode in BIOS? thanks macgirl! i switched to the ATA mode through the bios and i can now install it on the hd. Will I have to use this mode from now on or is there a patch I can apply to switch back to AHCI mode? thanks again
macgirl
Some say there is no difference in performance, some say there is. Personally I prefer AHCI.
jake123
There is a dos version, so you could copy it to a memory stick and make it bootable, or a cd or whatever. Where can I get this DOS version to put on my flash drive?

meusername
Interesting, I'm trying to install 10.5.2 with the Apple Package and netkas instructions, but I get the white Apple Screen with the rotating thing and it takes forever... I think I performed all steps correctly. Boot hangs at "Using ... buffer headers and ... Cluster IO buffer headers"...
juvius
Hi, first of all, thanks macgirl for this great guide. Is it possible to run netkas pc efi v8 on a dual boot hd? I'm running vista/leopard with vista active on what I believe is a mbr scheme? Which I think the netkas efi supports now.. Is there a risk of losing everything on your hd when attempting to install this? I want to try and get vanilla kernels working. I'm running a vostro 1400 and it does have intel chipset mobo and intel cpu. Thanks!
jake123
support.dell.com :/ Dell only gives a .exe file.... NOTE: You will need to provide a bootable DOS diskette. This executable file does not create the DOS system files. Copy the file M1330A10.EXE to a bootable floppy. Boot from the floppy to the DOS prompt. Run the file by typing Y:\M1330A10.EXE (where y is the drive letter where the executable is located). So I need a DOS prompt, does anyone know of a Boot CD that gives a dos prompt? What about Herin's Boot CD

So it would be ok to just install Netkas pc efi v8 when I already have leopard 10.5.2 and Vista already installed?
jake123
Does anyone know of a partitioner resizer? One that supports HFS? And does anyone know how to do a complete backup?... yahoop
I'm having issues with the posted sound drivers for the dell m1530. I have tried both the beta package, the attached zip files with the pre-configured kexts, and even tried adding my device id to the kext manually yet nothing has worked for me. Just wondering if I'm missing something important, like I also have to delete a different kext. I'm using the kal dvd 1.5.2 right now. I'm fairly new to all of this so its probably something stupid I did or forgot to do, it took me forever to get this dell wireless 1395 wlan to work even though it was supposed to work out of the box. Gparted live CD can decrease HFS partitions but can't increase them, also manage most type of partitions (copy, resize, format, activate, etc). Thats amazing to know. I got A10 installed, but I'm still having wifi problems... I'll try using Gparted to downsize the parition... and put XP on it. I havent used Windows in a year or so , can anyone suggest what to use, vista or xp... i'll probably go with XP EDIT: I already have OS X installed, so is there some special way to install vista without messing up the boot manager? yeye
Hi, can you specify me the name of the kernel allowing speedstep. I'd like to try it to see if the temperature of my laptop goes down because I find it very hot! Moreover, if I want to boot on speedstep kernel by default, when I will want to boot with sleeping kernel (= vanilla kernel), will I have to change system.kext? (I think that kernel and system.kext are dependent) Thanks for your help

Make the new partition and activate it, only if the Mac partition is active when you install Vista breaks it, if the parttion of Mac is inactive there is no worry there. What do you mean? Do you think that my temperature problem comes from the cpu throttle kext ? To those who are using vanilla kernel: is your laptop hotter than in vista? pstrford
Ok, can someone please clarify is there a fix for the reboot/shutdown problem on the Dell XPS M1530 with the Nvidia 8400m GS chip. I've tried the "reboot fix" from irc and various other options but still can't fix it.
macgirl
Well first the M1530 has the 8600M not the 8400M, second there is no fix at the moment unless you delete the Nvidia kexts, when the Restart/Shutdown issue it will reported on the 1st post. Some M1530 do indeed have the crummy 128MB 8400M, I do believe that the base model still has that as a stock option as it is an XPS in name only. Query: MacGirl, the Bluetooth in my notebook that thus far has not been operational, now is. After having spent hours upon hours messing with the software, I finally opened it to find the wire loose! It was only slightly so, apparently enough for the BIOS to detect it, but not quiet enough for the OS, bizarre, Dell Tech Support is in complete denial of this possibility! In any case, it is only functional if the Vista boot precedes that of Leo. Is it somehow activated by that cursed excuse for an OS? It could be also possibly due to the Media Direct 3.5 serving as a Leo activator, perhaps the same BIOS startup protocols are not being run via that particular boot method. Any ideas? While at it, my new 1505 TrueMobile while being recognized as a AirPort Extreme, does not automatically connect to a preset home wireless network but has to be manually set to do so. Where is my error, MacGirl? Please advise. V.
