talisman
Talisman, i figured out the problem! It's my processor that's defective! Someone sold me a defective processor about a month ago and it has been doing this ever since, I don't know why I didn't realize this earlier. Just figured leopard didn't like my new processor. I tried installing vista and kept getting a blue screen error, and vista installed fine when I had my old processor. good... coz I was about to suggest a system hardware check that Dell ships out wits its machines... Urthwhyte
After updating to 10.5.6 and enabling the new trackpad pref pane alongside dnoyeb's modified PS2Controller.kext for tap-to-click after sleep and Chun-Nans ACPI nub, I've found that changing the settings there for functions such as enabling Ignore Accidental Input or even changing the tracking speed has no effect. Anyone else have this same behavior?
jake123
I'm back... I'm having a difficult problem. It takes my computer over 10 minutes to go from hitting the power button, to my desktop. I have the console log if that helps. I also chose the "sleep kernel" because my computer doesn't like to boot from the DVD voodoo (IOAPIC errors) kernel, so I figure it doesnt like to use the regular Voodoo kernel. Any help is GREAT. It could also be related to this problem.... QI/CE works with NVkush, but when I open Photobooth it always crashes after turning on for a few seconds. Lastly my sleep isn't working. Besides these power issues the computer is responding wonderfully in osx. Thanks EDIT: I properly attached the file EDIT2: I figured out the problem. To get the SD card reader working, IOSDHCIBlockDevice.kext is required. But that kext lags out my computer like CRAZY, removing it makes this computer fast again. All that remains is my photobooth and a few other programs that don't work (I also switched to a vanilla kernel, or at least the one on an alum macbook). Any help on programs not operating properly would be great! Console.rtf
SilveRain
Hi to all! A have some trouble with system tray. Sometimes there is no any icons! No time, no battery, no wi-fi, no bluetooth. When I go to the SysPreferences in each tab, I can see that all checkboxes about "show item in menubar" are disabled. (I was on Date and Time tab, on Network Settings tab, on bluetooth tab and others) If I check it manually, there still no icons. If I do "Log out" and then "Log in" (with or without actions in SysPreferences), all icons comes back as it should be. The important feature: This trouble I receive after I installed Little Snitch. Icon of Little Snitch Monitor are situated in menubar everytime. Even if I uncheck it in LS Preferences. Even if there is no any other icons. LS icon is loaded first. When I uncheck it in LS Preferences, it disappears until next reboot. Well, do you know something about such problems? Why log out and log in helps me anyway? And when I want to install iAtkos 5i the problem is that the OS does not load the setup. It tries to boot and then it says: "Waiting for root device" ... and nothing happens since this message. With a different computer I have - a dell xps m1530 - I got a completely different problem. The system does not start after installing it. The first restart after the installation it hanged up at this apple-logo-watch ... Does anybody know an solution for this problem? Thx

thisisplayback
@ Sunlite.... You might need a new download for iAtkos 5i. I have a Dell 1420 Inspiron and I have full function (aside from my speakers and ethernet). The forums here and on uphuck.com should be a help. MacGirl also has some AppleHDA kext fixes on here that I used after updating to 10.5.6. The update actually fixed all my video problems I was having. If one can deal with just not having speakers, your hardware should respond the same as mine, unless you don't have a Dell Wireless card and have one of the Intel ones that there's no patch for. My media keys even work....it's been a great changeover process, so DON'T GIVE UP on it. By the way, I am using Safari from my Inspiron/Mac now. I didn't want a dual boot, so I'm just on Mac OSx. sunlite
@thisisplayback: hi. thank you very much for your help. hmm. the funny thing is, that i already had macOSX installed on my xps m1530, once ago. at this time it was version iatkos 2. and it worked, more or less. graphic was ok, audio worked fine and ethernet also worked. the only things which were not working: wifi and the shutdown-process. this was the reason why i decided not to keep it on my system because i didn't want to shutdown my laptop by pressing the on/off-key. and i also wanted to have wifi work. therefore i downloaded iatkos 5i some days/weeks ago to retry it. but after installation i restarted my system and then there was the error. when trying to load macosx the computer hang up at this macosx-logo (kind of watch). hmm. of course i never will give trying and trying. maybe i wait for the next iatkos-release and then i am going to try it again. i believe in getting it working some day

Thx You have a "waiting for root device" problem because you burnt the dvd too fast. Burn it at the slowest seed on your slowest dvd drive. That should take care of this As far as hanging at the "No Smoking" Apple sign, boot with the -v option at the bootloader and take a picture of the screen and post it. If you cannot take a picture let us know where it is getting stuck and if there are any yellow lines and what they say. Chances are it is a AHCI problem. And Ethernet never worked on any 1530. If you got that working you should try it again and post. If you succeed, the forum will breathe a sigh of relief!!! Thanks for replying .. The best comprehensive guide that you will get is wingrunr21's guide to M1330/M1530. You will find the guide in his signature. I have triple boot with Vista/Mac0SX/Fedora. Never had a problem with any buttons. Don't have Media Direct and don't use it. You can leave your vista alone and install Mac in a separate partition but then you will have to have something like Gparted Live to boot the machine and mark Vista as active after the install and then repair the Vista Boot Manager with the Vista Install CD that Dell provided. Then you can mark Mac as active and carry on with life.
sunlite
@talisman, thank you very much for the information. i will try this at the end of the week because for now, i need my laptop. and yes. i am pretty sure that my xps m1530 worked with iatkos 2 very well except shutdown and wifi. i put the ethernet-cable in my ethernet-slot and without any questions i went online with safari. i was pretty happy but without a working shutdown and a working wifi i didn't want to have macosx installed. but i have other problems then most of all the people here, having a dell xps m1530. maybe it's because i got a german xps m1530. i really don't know but on friday i will try your tips and hints with a new macosx on my dell. if it will not work this way i will reinstall iatkos 2 just for test-purposes and just to show you that it really works for me ... this ethernet-stuff. of course i want to support you guys with hackosx
Urthwhyte
Can anybody running a 10.5.6 vanilla install test with something? 1. Make sure your computer is fully charged 2. Unplug from mains power and then wait one minute. 3. Check the battery indicator and record the amount of battery life you have left (hours & minutes) 4. Sleep your computer 5. Wake the computer and wait one minute. 6. Recheck the battery indicator and record the amount of battery life left. My results seem to indicate that as soon as I sleep the laptop I lose 40 minutes of battery life (from 2:40 to 2:00), and further testing indicated that if I actually work with the laptop without sleeping I'll get between 2:20 and 2:35 of productivity, whereas with sleeping I'll get around 2:00 to 2:20. I'm using VoodooPower 1.21 and ACPIBattery.kext 1.16 for Speedstep and battery meter respectively.
jjones
Hi to all! I have Dell media remote and I use it with Front Row. But Dell media remote don't have button 'Esc'. In Front Row I can go to the previous menu with 'Esc'. Well, there is button Backspace on Remote (button #4, see image). One thing that we need - remap FrontRow and add alias 'Backspace = Esc'. How we can do it? I go to the System preferences, Keyboard shortcuts. Add shortcut for the FrontRow. (see screenshot in attachment) so, the question is: where I can see name of frontrow's actions? Name of frontrow's menu item, that allows go to the previous level? I have application 'Butler', but it also needs names of actions for the mapping. I have same situation with a bluetooth remote. No escape. Please let me know if you come up with solution. Seems ludicrous that this isn't possible. Thanks!
