Ps: I can't us a second quote but yes, I meant an image of the BOOTLOADER, of course not an image of Leo.

Hello everyone. Been a while since I worked on getting Leopard running on my machine. I'm currently using iDeneb 10.5.5. I have found that my CD/DVD drive is no longer recognized. Everything else (Except Built in Ethernet and Restart/shutdown are still not working). Any suggestions on what to do about the CD/DVD drive?

I spent the last few days going in circles trying to get a good 10.5.5 install on my m1330 and finally got it done. A lot of the old guides have some steps that really aren't needed anymore, so I thought I'd share my experiences. (note that I still need to get sound and sleep taken care of, but I think that'll be painless compared to the rest by following macgirl's posts)

 

I used: Leo4Allv3 10.5.2, boot-132 ... and that's it.

 

Burn leo4all and boot-132 to a DVD and CD.

 

Install Leo4All as normal with one important caveat ... make sure you pick GUID as your partition scheme. I'm not sure that this is required, but it seemed to help with some other problems I was having. Make sure you customize it and install the intel ACH chipset driver.

 

Let it reboot, do the usual welcome-to-mac fill out routine. Download the 10.5.5 combo installer from Apple.

 

I ran netkas' script to delete "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext", even though I'm not positive that this is required with this method.

 

Install the 10.5.5 update and reboot. You don't need to edit anything. HOWEVER, and this is *IMPORTANT* do NOT let your computer reboot off the HD or you'll brick it. You MUST boot off of the boot-132 CD now. Let it boot on its own and it'll reboot once without going into the GUI, then everything will be fine.

 

Now you can install all of the remaining updates (including 2008-07) from Software update. When it reboots make sure you pass -f -v to the kernel or you may end up without keyboard or touchpad (this happened to me once).

 

This is where I'm at now. Next up is chameleon I think so I can stop booting off CD, then the few remaining driver issues. I just wanted to post this so people didn't feel like they had to do 10.5.2->5.3->5.4->5.5 ... because that's not required at all.

Got 95% working with all the patch and i am having issue with sound can someone please help me on this..

screen res, Wireless, Ethernet, cam, finger print reader, most of it expect the Sound can any one point me to right path..

Maybe not, but it's relevant to this thread. I install OS X on the 1330 using this thread, and a lot of people interested in purchasing an M1330 to install OS X on post in this thread.

 

Not selling it to make a profit, figured I'd offer it to people interested in this particular laptop to run OS X, save them some money and time.

It will also sleep with clamshell without clamshelldisplay.kext (but i still recommend that kext, and to avoid appleintelcpupowermanagement anyway) It will also show pci devices in system profiler. Also change audio acpi id from AZAL to HDEF. Etc.

M1530 BIOS update A11 is out.

Adds support for 8GB RAM if anyone is using that much.

A13 for XPS 1330 is also available. Don't know about the release notes. Most likely the same as the M1530 release.

Edit: Running it right now. Seems fine so far. Did not fix my sleep issue.

 

Edit2: I think Dell kicked the CPU fan up another notch. It is noticeably louder than before.

Is this suitable if you are still dual booting, or only if you runn fully OSX??

Finally I got my XPS M1330 and try to install the Leopard on a USB drive as a test to see how good it works! (before formatting the whole internal drive!)

 

Now, I have a small issue, hope you guys can help:

 

After Installing the Sonotone Package, I got kernel panic! (Right after installation finished, without even pressing a single button!)

After rebooting, I lost my keyboard! I tried all I knew, but didn't help at all!

 

Now the question is, which part did I go wrong?? this is the my selection from Sonotone package:

 

Graphics -> Nvidia -> Models -> 8400M

Sound -> Sigmatel 9228 (not sure, how should I know which one is mine???)

Network -> Broadcom 440X! (just to make sure my Ethernet will not work)

Apple SMBIOS: MacBook Pro

Power Management: SpeedStep Enabler, Battery Meter, Lid Sleep, USB EHCI SLeep Enabler

TrackPad Scrolling: XPS M1330

Keyboard Layout: ---

Others: Media Keys Enabler

Safe Update

 

 

P.S: I tried to install the package while I was running on 10.5.1... can it be the problem? do you have to be on 10.5.5??

I tried again to install Retail Leopard, but I stuck again!!

What I did:

Boot from My ISO disc that wingrunr21 provided

Replace Retail Disc & Boot up

Partitioning, formating and installing Leopard on a single partition of internal drive (GUID)

Restart and boot again from My ISO

Boot from HDD, get in to Leopard for the first time

Install 10.5.5 Combo Update

Delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext

 

NOW! If I restart here, It never boots up! just stuck in middle! even verbos mode doesn't give any useful information!! I think I need to do some more modification between installing 10.5.5 & Restarting, but I couldn't find any post to talk about it! (unfortunately most of people use iAtkos 4i)

 

So, can someone please help and tell what modifications should i do after 10.5.5 Combo Update on Retail Install? any new kext installation?? more to delete?
