No there were a 10.5.2 TOH sleep kernel, and there are some new non-vanilla kernels that permit sleep.

The kernels that doesn't permit sleep are speedstep ones, but those are for previous versions of Mac OS.

Read back a few pages. There is a fix that seems to work for some but not for others. Your 8400m GS shouldn't be giving you sleep problems. There are many XPS 1330 users with that card that can sleep fine. It actually seems like I'm the only one who cannot get sleep working properly.

It works! Cool!!! Thank you!

Now in my Dell Vostro 1400 iAtkos v4i (10.5.4, vanilla kernel):

nVidia GeForce 8400m gs - works with Open GL/CI (macgirl's efi string and Leopard Graphics update)

WiFi Dell 1395 - works

Bluetooth - works

Sound stac9228 - works speaker/phones/mic-in

Lid sleep

SpeedStep

Doesn't work:

Ethernet

Built-in mic

Shutdown/reboot

CardReader

Apple Software Update to 10.5.5 (even if I install Safe Update from Sonatone's Dell Post Installer)

Well if you don't use ScreenSharing (which is an easy way to turn Mirror off) you need to delete some preferences, I just did a change resolution and the files that were modified are: com.apple.windowserver.ramdom_chars.plist and com.apple.preference.displays, they are on my user preferences located at: ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/

Thanks, I fixed it by opening up ~/Library/Preferences/, adding read/write perms to com.apple.windowserver.plist and deleting "Item 2" under DisplaySets and rebooting.

Edit: Oh, and the new external is a 40" 1080p Samsung LN40A550. My first HD, and my family's first new TV in +15 years. It makes Xcode look pretty. :(

When I first installed OSX, I didn't think I would use it often, but now it is all I use. So I only created the partition to be 40 gb and 200gb for the vista partition. Does anyone know of a safe way to add space to the OSX partition without loosing any data? Thank you so much.

Hi,

first of all thanks again to MacGirl, this is a very informative Thread! I currently run 10.5.4 just fine on my XPS 1530. I just didn't read much at insanelymac the last months, so I wonder about how some things changed. I just lost the overview. It would be very nice, if somebody could just briefly post the latest development.

I installed 10.5.4 using iAtkos 10.5.1 with vanilla kernel and several updates. Sound, Graphics Card, Sleep etc. do work at the moment. What does not work is Shutdown/Restart and Speedstep. As far as I know Software Updates are also still a bit complicated, for 10.5.5 I would have to use timeout patch, etc...

Now my question: which is currently the best way to install OSX on 1530 (iAtkos, PC_EFI8, Chameleon, ...)? If, let's say PC_Efi provides advantages, is switching possible for current installations? Is there now a way to get Speedstep working using Vanilla Kernel? Is there now a way to get the Updates working flawlessly? (I read something about a second Extensions Folder with the hacked kexts inside) And is there now a way to get Shutdown/Restart working (e.g. with this OpenHaltRestart.kext by Psystar)?

A brief answer would be very nice. The newly gained information everyday is just too much if you don't visit insanelymac.com regularly!

This looks like my kind of thread ;)

Ok, So ive had this Dell XPS M1530 for a couple of months now (Mainly as a desktop replacement). I used to run Hackintosh on my desktop as main O/S, Now I would like to have it on here too :)

Specs:

Dell XPS M1530

CPU: T8300 2.4GHZ Intel C2D [(S)SSE3/SSE4.1/EM64T supported]

RAM: 3GB DDR2

GPU: 8600M GT 256mb DDR3 [1280x800 RESO]

HDD: 320GB [5200RPM]

WLAN: Intel 4569AGN (I understand this wont work? I'm quite willing to buy another card here)

ETH: Marvell Yukon 88E8040 (I understand this wont work at all?)

Current Partitions:

partiaw9.th.jpgthpix.gif

The Situation:

As you can see all 4 partitions are taken up, I do eventually want to have the main OS as Leopard then have Vista/Xp as 2ndary OS. The problem lies with File storage, I don't have any backup devices...:S? Should I delete all of the partitions apart from Vista > Resize Vista > Create a 'Media' Partition to copy my files to (Leaving 2 partitions) > Then Delete Vista > And create Leopard/Vista > Install both O/S...?

Also:

Which Distributions should I be using, and what's not going to work with Leopard on this laptop.

HELP PLEASE :D

An M1530 can be used with a retail install or with any of the distributions (probably iAtkos or iDeneb would be your best shot). The only things that won't work are the Intel wireless and the wired ethernet. As for your partitioning, it really is up to you. You could also just buy an external hard drive. They are very cheap nowadays.

Ok yeah. Sounds like a good idea :) So everything will work out of the box? With an Iatkos install and the Dell post installer? What about the sleep and sound problems? Thanks for the reply though :D

I just read myself through several boot-123, Chameleon for Hard Drives, .... Threads. So I figured out that installing Leo this way might be the perfect way because once the right Image with Bootloader/Kext/... is created, one would only have to insert Leo and just install like on a mac.

So now my question: is there anyone out there who got such an sinstallation working and who got knowledge to like post this Image as a "format, copy and paste, install retail Leo" Version vor XPS m1530?

If someone tries something like that, a thousand thanks to him/her!!!!!! That would be what the community waited for!

Edit: Is it possible to adpot ones bootloader image incl. kexts?

How can I increase the performance of my 8400m gs in my Inspiron 1520?

As it is now (using NVInjectGo) any 3d stuff is choppy, even screensavers. Is there a better driver for my card?

Make the display or the whole system sleep, it just need a fraction of a second to gain better performance.

That is a retail install. Since distributing full disk images of OS X is of questionable legality, you would probably be best suited simply installing from a retail disk like everyone else.

I think he may have meant distributing an image of the EFI Partition containing kexts used to get particular hardware working not the Leopard install itself.. even if he didn't I think this would be a neat way to do it provided it doesn't step in legal muddy waters.

hi again :(

i want to format my current osx86 partition and install iAtkos 4.1i on it. does that mean that after installation i have to go through all the process of using fdisk and chain0 to get dual boot with vista, or the current setup will still work ? i am asking beacause last time i used fdisk i screwed up my computer a bit, and i wanted to avoid all that again -_-

thanks

For XPS M1530 Sigmatel 9228

Works after reboot.

Use this kext. Install it in the normal way.

In case you cannot, follow the instructions on http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=938427

Internal Mic not working though

Dagrimripper, you can you the gparted live cd and create partitions and format them. I has always worked for me best. If you wish you can use the Darwin Bootloader but there is no way to make Vista as the default boot target with Darwin. If you want Vista as default boot target you have to use chain0 or Grub on a separate partition (possibly logical).

Kosteg: You might have figured how to update to 10.5.5 from iatkos v4i already, but just in case.... read this

I did not need to do the "Don't Steal Mac" part.... but lets be careful....

Does anyone have a confirmed working boot-132 image that they can post for an M1530?

This is also exactly what I wanted :D It would be wonderful if somebody could post a working boot 123, dfe Chameleon.... Image with 1530 kexts!

Ps: I can't us a second quote but yes, I meant an image of the BOOTLOADER, of course not an image of Leo.
