Ray2Jerry
Hey all, I can confirm that the sound kext posted on the first page of this thread doesn't work with 10.5.5 (at least for me too). I also backed up the kext that was working perfectly on 10.5.4 but despite the volume buttons working and it showing up in System Preferences, I couldn't get sound through the speakers either. The way I fixed it was by using an old kext I found elsewhere. Mute doesn't work anymore and it doesn't work quite as well as it was, but at least there's audio I've attached what I used to get it working, at least it's something for now for those having the same issues. Hope this helps! rAy PS: As always, backup your kexts before installing, and use at your own risk! applehda_sigmatel9228_hdas.zip
dmk
Anyone know what Superhai's sleep kexts might be doing to cause sound and the trackpad to behave differently pre and post-sleep? This is on my M1530. Before Sleep: Sound works, mute works, headphone jack works and mutes sound Trackpad tap to click does not work After Sleep: Sound works, mute no longer works, headphone jack no longer produces sound Trackpad tap to click WORKS! It seems that there's a mix of the best of both worlds, if only I could understand what exactly happens with this sleep process and what makes the headphone jack stop working and the touchpad tap to click START working... Anyone made any progress in this arena? What causes things like that to change after a sleep?
macpc_mar
Hi macgirl, I think you are a GODSEND to this community. I'm a newbie and I wanted to get a hackintosh notebook which works 100% with 10.5.5. I have finally nailed down to Dell XPS M1330 or M1530 notebook which can be customized with 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS OR 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT OR HP dv6700t which can be customized with 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS. Having said that, it seems the above mentioned cards are working natively with QE/CI enabled including hardware acceleration. I know you have done a excellent compilation for these Dell notebooks. But, it is way too big and it would be fantastic if there is a updated tutorial on how to install 10.5.5 on these Dell notebooks. If one already exists, I apologize that I didn't look right and the pointer to the thread would save mine and your time. Thanks.
loudog3114
Macgirl - Any chance we can get an update to the front page of this how-to? I'm not a newbie, but I am still having a hard time following what people have done to get the 1530 as functional as possible. Also, sleep works for me but I have no video when I come out of sleep. Apps are still running, as I can hear sounds from them, but I have a black screen.
macgirl
Yes I will update te first post. But one thing certainly, you don't have proper sleep. The symptoms you describe are the same of whom uses non vanilla kernel, you can only have proper sleep with vanilla kernel or sleep kernel (a 9.2 modded kernel). wingrunr21
My NVCAP value is:<04000000 00000100 06000000 00000000 00000000> or BAAAAAAAAQAGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA= Does this nvcap maintain VGA output as well?
macgirl
Does this nvcap maintain VGA output as well? Yes but not at the same time if the DVI/HDMI is connected, only two displays are supported, this means LCD+VGA or LCD+DVI, you cannot display on VGA+DVI because they are on the same channel. The LCD is on channel 1 and the other ports are on the channel 2.

Edit: ah, that's the same nvcap you have in that nvinject you posted earlier.
dankasfuk
SO quick question... (Inspiron 1420, Nvidia 8400m) I noticed when using Macgirl's EFI string it is possible to get video out, but Quartz is no longer present. Without the string, both CI and QE are enabled. Any way to have the best of both worlds? Thanks. Mike

luaduck
Following is copy/pasta'd from the 1330 thread, as this one seems more lively. Just a quickie, I'm using iAkatosV4i on a XPS M1530, with a external USB harddrive, and I'm having some problems. Biggest : EFI. I can start up OSX86TOOLS, and install Chameleon, but when I restart it's just hanging on a flashing "_" even before it hits EFI or Darwin! There's no errors coming up in the log - I'm using OSX86Tools V1Final, and the partition table is def. GPT. I have to use the Dell BootCD to get in every time! Smaller : WiFi. When I install it, no AirPort appears, and when I use the configuration app, it kernel panics when I try to join a network. Medic!

macpc_mar
I installed that BIOS update the day it was released. I've never experienced heat issues on my 1330. The BIOS update is to extend the life of the GPU and not a permanent fix. It will make the fun run all the time to cool the GPU. Didn't you notice that? rokhoe
The last days I´ve been tweaking around my OSX installation, and I´ve managed to achieve the best results on my Vostro 1500 with 8600M GT (256 MB) until now. QE/CI, VGA OUTPUT (NO MIRRORING), SOUND, SPEEDSTEP, SLEEP, LID SLEEP, MEDIA BUTTONS, USB MOUNTING, TRACKPAD SCROLLING, BATTERY METER and HARDWARE INFO are working with the 10.5.5 Combo Update, which was installed on an iAtkos v2.0i (10.5.2) installation. The system is running on Netkas EFI v8 with 9.4.0 ToH Kernel. The most difficult part of this process was finding out the correct EFI string for my 8600m GT, as I wanted to get VGA output through a separate booting .plist (which I called tv.plist and which can be run on the boot screen just by typing "config=tv.plist"). The main reason why I made a separate .plist, was because I didn´t want to modify the nvcap values of my nvinject.kext. For those of you who are interested, I made a package with a short installation guide with all necessary apps and drivers. It will be uploaded shortly. PS: after installing Leopard Graphics Update (which was the only way to get QE/CI working with EFI strings) and all the other .kexts, I found out that my OpenGL scores were quite low (and yes, I used the sleep screen corner trick;) ). But then I tried to run Spore (the game), with the same settings I had before, but didn´t notice any performance drop. So I think it´s not a major problem, or am I wrong? EDIT: I included a folder with .plists, which you can apply if you accidentally enable Mirror mode with VGA output, instructions are also attached. Are you aware that nvidia 8xxx GPU series have terrible heat issues as mentioned in this url from dell: http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/200...top-owners.aspx. Didn't you notice that? This major issue is holding off my purchase of a Dell noteebook with nvidia 8xxx series GPU otherwise would be a excellent hackintosh machine. rokhoe
Well, under Vista I´ve overclocked my 8600m gt at about 600/475 and I didn´t experience any issues. The highest temperature I ever got was 74C, after playing several hours GRID Race Driver, which believe me, is quite GPU intensive. And I don´t exactly know if today OSX has any application which is as intensive as that. What I´m more worried about is the CPU temp. , which sometimes can be high (maybe it´s affected by the GPU?). But there are some coolers, like the Zalman, which you can use if you´re afraid of your notebook getting too hot. One thing that I recommend, is to update the BIOS to the newest version, which fixes some of the temperature problems.
