wingrunr21
i meant now that i am on 10.5.5 i have tried reapplying AppleHDA and it doesnt seem to take, any suggestions That is a lot different than what you said before. How have you tried re-applying it? Have you re-run Sonotone's installer? Have you checked the /System/Library/Extensions folder to ensure AppleHDA is there? Have you tried manually extracted the kext from Sonotone's installer with Pacifist and then using OSx86 Tools or Kexthelper to install the kext? Did you make sure you repaired your permissions and reset your extension cache when you were done with these operations?
ZeRoNiXxX
Yea, sorry about being so vague. I have tried all of those suggestions and i still get kextd[68]: kld_load_from_memory() failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleHDAkextd[68]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext during boot
wingrunr21
Does this happen even after deleting the kext and reapplying it? Perhaps you need to run a fsck on the filesystem. This can be done from singler user mode (boot with the -s flag).

macgirl
PLEASE GOD HELP! i am using dell inspiron 1720, with 2 hard drives. Hard drive one (seen by vista as disk0) is partitioned in 3: vista (ntfs), leopard (hfs+), data (ntfs) Hard drive 2 (seen by vista as disk1) has only one partition (ntfs) i installed iAtkos2.0i on the created partition, using this guide: http://inihilist.wordpress.com/2008/04/05/...and-fool-proof/ the thing worked and i had the OSX but in order to get vista back i had to follow these instructions after booting in safe mode [-s] fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 flag 1 quit reboot i blindly followed the instructions and it appears that rdisk0 was actually Hard drive 2 i repeated the steps for rdisk1 and then i could safely repair and boot vista, and finish the bootloader setup in order to have both OS's, but when i tried to get back to Hard drive 2, i was amazed that ALL MY DATA WAS GONE!!! although vista reported the same amount of disk space as before, the only files i see in that partition now are .DS_Store , ._.Trashes , ._.TemporaryItems , .TemporaryItems , .Trashes and, strange enough, one of the old folders of data that i had, which is still accessible please tell me what to do, all my data was on that drive and it seems as if it's still there but i can't get to it. please help Run any of the NTFS Recovery tools, I had the same problem, I updated the boot sector of the wrong disk/partition and lost the data in it, but the recvery tool worked. If the tool does not recognize the partition, try to assing manually with a partition manager of your NTFS Disk.

overshoot
Hello, Is there someone who is using the boot-132 method to boot its Xps 1530. It could be friendly if someone could upload the archive of it. Thanks in advance. Josh.
dagrimripper
Run any of the NTFS Recovery tools, I had the same problem, I updated the boot sector of the wrong disk/partition and lost the data in it, but the recvery tool worked. If the tool does not recognize the partition, try to assing manually with a partition manager of your NTFS Disk. @ macgirl, you've come to the rescue as usual thanks for the tip, it's what i should have dome from the beginning, but here's the funny part: i spend about 8 hrs trying on about 3 or 4 different recovery tool software, and surfing the web, and after hundreds of variations of my google search i figured out that the $MFT might be broken. so i came across a post about a totally different thing (dont even remember the forum), about using chkdsk /f to fix that. as you know, anyone who has windows probably has chkdsk as a default tool, ran it from vista command prompt with administrative privileges, and, of all things, it worked!! Old MS bastards still have some good stuff left in their heart ------------------------------ @ everyone On the other hand, now i have some other problems. When i installed iAtkos 2.0i i also took account of a video tutorial ( ). So i used:- Kernel 9.2.0 ToH ( @2:30) (too bad, because after that i saw in this other @2.45 that 9.2.2 stock kernel can detect your battery)- Remove thermal Kexts (also in the first tutorial @2.35) - NVInject for 256MB - NTFS-3G I later realised that the first tut was for a desktop system, while the second was for a laptop, and might have worked better. The problems that i have now are the following: - although my audio seems to be recognized by the install, and the volume keys work (the sound slider appears on the screen when i use them) - i get no output in the speakers. Do you think AppleHDA might work ? - after several minutes the computer goes to sleep (probably) - i.e. the screen goes black but the power indicator stays on, and i can't get it back except by shutting it down by force and rebooting - could this be a problem with the sleep driver ? - the battery is not recognised (probably because the OS sees it as a desktop computer) - i haven't tried closing the lid yet (that was silly - i will try that when i get home) - don't know anything about speedstep yet, probably not working, but don't know if it's that useful However, the biggest problem that i have is that i have no idea how to install the kexts! I couldnt find any tutorial basic enough for me (i am a complete noob to this and the decision to try OSX86 came more like a curiosity than a need or urge to have a mac OS). Is there somewhere i can look for step by step details ? The reason i am asking is that i don't know how to use all the resources you guys are providing. - for sound, will this be ok ? (STAC9228_0x83847616.zip from your first post) - for display lid (ClamshellDisplay.kext from superhai) ? - for sleep, i've seen that other ppl have had problem with 9.2.0 ToH, is there a solution yet? - for battery meter ? I'm sorry i am asking so many questions but your initial post has so many options and i still don;t know which one is best for me Here is my current confinguration, for clarification: Dell Inspiron 1720 Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 @2GHz 2GB DDR 2 @667 MHz Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT 256MB @ 1920x1200 2x120GB SATA @5400RPM Dell 1390 Wireless Minicard (working with stock install) Broadcom 440x Ethernet (haven't tried it, probably working) On first hard drive i have: - Vista running on primary partition (C:) - Mac running on extended partition, first logical - NTFS data on extended partition, second logical Second hard drive: - one partition, NTFS data (recently fixed with chkdsk ) I used chain0 for bootloader because i couldnt find a good enough explanation on how to set up tboot on vista. That's about all the information i can provide, and the fact that i have had close to zero experience with terminal and unix-based systems. i just know that ls means something like dir in MS-DOS thanks again, and you guys are great for helping people out the way you do ***quick edit: i found Kext Helper and this post and that will probably be of help with installing the kexts - does it work with any kext? How do u uninstall them?

Warder
Thanks for this tutorial, I have the 10.5.5 update working almost perfectly on my XPS 1330. 2 little problems, if anyone can help. I'm having a problem with sleep where the computer will go to sleep, and then wake up when I press the button. When it wakes, things look normal, but the wifi indicator never comes back in the top bar. The mouse just goes to a spinning cursor, and I am not able to do anything. I then have to hard reset. I installed the echisleepenabler from Superhai, and made the one kext change he required. I had a problem with the 2 finger scroll from sonotones pack, so I have not installed that. My touchpad is extremely sensitive and moves way too fast. Even when I set my preferences to the lowest setting, it is almost unuse able. I tried searching everywhere, but most people have the other problem, the touchpad is too slow. If anyone has any solutions, let me know.

mailman24
Hi there, quick question, I have a dell inspiron 1520, I have installed iatkos 4i successfully, and used the dell laptop post installer 1.2 to get my video working (thank god as I couldn't get qe/ci to work up till now with 10.5.4) But for the life of me I cannot get my audio to work. I have tried both the 9205 and 9228 options in the patcher, and the modified kext on the first page of this post. Does anyone have any suggestions as this is all I need to be able to actually use my laptop for final cut. Thanks!
