I want to re-install using the boot-132 method but I can't get the retail DVD to load properly.

 

Dell XPS M 1530 - nvidia 8600gt

 

I have tried the generic boot disk, the dell boot disk and the xps boot disk but the DVD will not load properly. It is always hanging.

 

What image have you used to get this going on this hardware?

 

Also, my retail DVD is version 10.5.0, do I need a later version or should this work?

I used the 10.5.0 retail disk.

 

For me the easiest way to use the boot 132 is the syslinux method, either on USB memory stick or on a little fat 32 partition.

 

Did you try to use -v at boot with your DVD to see where it hangs?

Hi, I am trying to get my audio working on my M1530.

 

As described on the first post, I have used the patched AppleHDA.kext

 

However, when I boot up I get the sound icon, but no sound!

 

Next, I tried deleting AppleAzalia.kext as described, but I have not got this kext. I do have AppleAzaliaAudio.kext, but when I delete this I no longer get the speaker icon, and my bluetooth behaves erratically!

 

I have installed iAtkos v4i and ran Sonotones Dell package for my Nvidia graphics.

 

Any ideas?

Thanks macgirl once again! I removed the EFI string and used NVinject.kext and it works perfectly with my 10.5.5 (no stress!).

Maybe you can answer this one.

 

First macgirl:

Your screenshot in the About System differs from mine (just slightly)...yours shows 256MB RAM which our Dells xps m1330's only have 128MB...mine shows just the 128MB. Is it the AppleSMBIOS version thats causing this? I'm using Sonotone's install (choosing Macbook).

 

Second, wingrunr21,

 

Also, I did the leopard graphics update/pacifist BEFORE I used macgirl's modded NVinject.kext am now unsure if I'm using the most up-to-date drivers (since I fear that it copied over them). Can you help identify which drivers/specific files I should re-copy over (if needed) from the 10.5.5 package. I can use Pacifist to do this, correct?

It did copy over them. What I'd do is re-download the 10.5.5 combo update and reinstall it. That'll upgrade you to the latest kexts and allow you to use macgirl's NVinject.

I have a dell 1720 with iAtkos 4.0i 10.5.4 installed and working great. I have noticed though that many usb devices, such as flash drives, will boot and work in safe mode but not under regular boot. is there any fix for this?

 

Are you saying that these devices do not work when you boot in normal mode or that you have OS X installed to one of these devices and it will not boot without safe mode?

 

Quick update for those of you who are dying to get their onboard ethernet working. I have been working on porting the bge driver from BSD for the past few weeks. At the moment I've made some good progress. My network card is detected and OS X grabs the correct MAC address. I am still, however, working out some deal-killing bugs. Once those are fixed I will post an alpha for people to test.

I have a tomtom, 8gb flash drive, and a 120 gb external, all fat 32, which seem to work with the -x flag into safe mode, but when i run a normal boot, they are not detected. My external drive and tomtom get power, but do not mount and my flash drive doesnt get power at all. I have a 2gb that works just fine and a mouse too.

It sounds to me like something is keeping some USB kexts from loading properly in normal mode. Have you checked the error logs for errors like that?

 

Does anyone know how to get rid of this Chameleon error:

 

boot0: GPT
boot0: HFS+
boot0: booting
boot0: done
boot1: error

 

It just sits there afterward. I've googled and gotten on IRC and it doesn't work. Tried using OSx86 Tools and Chameleon installer. I'm pretty sure I set the partition as active correctly. Any ideas?

Funny, after a few restarts, it seems to be recognizing them. Ive been reading people have been experienceing flakey behavior with USB items. Im also running the ToH 9.2.0 kernel. I think i might try the vanilla 9.4.0 kernel. Sounds to me like people are having success with my model. Here is some of the last entries:

This may be a really dumb question, but I hope macgirl or someone can answer.

 

If I already installed off retail and have chameleon booting me without the boot-132 CD, but missed some kexts i wanted to use in the original ISO, if I just throw those kexts into Chameleon's "Extras/Extensions" folder that it made in the root, is that good enough?

I just put my in /System/Library/Extensions. You usually only have to replace AppleHDA after an update.

Hi again, How can I know if my graphics card its working hardware acelerated? I ask because I feel that some videos use a lot of cpu and for example internal webcam, works like 1 fps per second. Anyone? there is a test or something?

That's beacuse I take the snapshots before I modify the NVinject, my 8400GS has also 128MB.

 

But what windows show is another size because this car can use shared memory.

Macgirl, your nvinject kext got my m1530's 128mb 8400 GS to show proper under 10.5.5, but still no QE/CI. Any luck on your end or are you gonna drop back to 10.5.4? That's all I seem to be missing and it sure would be nice to stay at 10.5.5.

Lol!

 

The only thing you have to take care of is deleting the AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement kext as soon as it is written on your disk. (also dsmos kext)

 

If not it is loaded by the install script and that's what cause your kernel panic...

 

Updates are safe for intel sse3 with intel chipsets. Just backup your specific kext and replace them after update.

 

Not so complicated... :(

How would I delete those files as they are written to disk? Do you mean as the update is being installed?

 

I see there's a process posted on another site but it's in Indonesian, and that's not a language I even pretend to know.

 

I'm not one to ask for someone to hold my hand through something, but if you can point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.

UPDATE: OK, so I figured out how to install 10.5.5 and will post the procedure below for those other fellow slightly clueless newbies out there :)

 

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open Terminal

 

sudo -s

 

*type password*

 

while sleep 1;

do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done

 

Open 10.5.5 Update Installer

 

Run update BUT DO NOT RESTART

 

Go back to your terminal and press Control C to end the script

 

In terminal type:

 

nano /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1

 

Replace the line Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext with dsmos.kext

 

Restart and boot with -v

 

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 

The only problem is the mouse/keyboard isn't working, but I know there's a solution for that a few posts up :)

Alright, tried adding the EHCISleepenabler.kext using kexthelper, repaired permissons and still nothing. The laptop just sits there and does nothing when slept. Any other suggestions?

 

Edit: The mouse also goes wonky for a minute or two after having "resumed" from the nonsleep state.

I used the nvinject.kext from macgirl with 10.5.5 nvidia kexts. My games running very slow since this. I have reinstalled the leopard graphic update 1.0 and all games working fast again. I have testet Spore and Command & Conquer and both games be nearly unplayable with 10.5.5 kexts. I testet the performance with OpenGL Extension Viewer and i got ca 400fps with old kexts and with 10.5.5 i have ca 800fps.

 

Has anyone an idea how to fix this?
