You choose whatever suits you and works for you. There is a problem using the value SMBIOS provides instead of the calculated fsb passed to kernel, your clock will not count correctly. And alot depends on correct timings in OS X. OSX doesn not poll for correct timings, but just go on and on with the timing calculated at startup. One place its easy to see is that your clock will not be correct after a while (you might not experience this if your clock updates from internet).

Anyways, if you use my smbios kext, you can edit alot of values in the Info.plist in the kext. (FSB will not be used unless there is no FSB available from boot or SMBIOS.)

Thanks for clearing all of that up, I understand now :D

I noticed something quite strange with the behaviour of my FSB though. Whilst in Vista, it seems to be overclocking itself by around 16-20 MHz during intensive operations, causing the CPU to jump to around 2.6 GHz :P

I'm not sure if this is normal for Penryn users, can anyone else with a Dell XPS confirm this also? check the reported info on CPU-Z or Lavalys Everest.

Not that I'm complaining about the seemingly auto overclock, everything seems stable and my RAM is running faster than usual.

Thats called Intel Dynamic Acceleration (IDA), came with the Santa Rosa platform. If the application is single threaded, CPU can shut down the second core and overclock the first one and still maintain its thermal profile.

My temporary solution is to use modbin's kernel (the clock runs fine with this kernel and the 64_bit boot flag) but I'd rather use vanilla if possible. Do you think I could tweak the SMBIOSResolver plist to fix this clock problem when im using the vanilla kernel? Im using M1330 with penryn 2.6ghz. How would I go about adding in the correct FSB info?

I am trying to find methods that will kepp correct timings in osx. But it is not easy at all. The problem is that it is not documented at all. I think that AppleInteCPUPowerManagement, and AppleHPET does that on real apples. It cant be done with the smbios.kext. The problem is also related to unstable tsc and poor bioses. If you have a different fsb in system-profiler than expected, the change has to be done at boot level. It is one of the "efi" values kernel depends on.

Just have a fairly simple question... I just got a 1530 in, and thanks to all you guys / gals I have it work quite well. The one thing that doesn't seem to be working at the current moment however is the mic. I was trying to vid conf my brother earlier and the Mic didn't seem to work. I used the kext from the first post and haven't tried taruga's plain one yet.

When I look in the sound properties, it shows "internal microphone" however it is not capturing anything that I can tell.

I am sure i'll have more questions as the time comes but so far this bad boy is rocking hard. Loving it.

"internal microphone" is the Microphone Jack, is the name that Mac OS uses as "default".

I have tried updating to 10.5.3 three times on my m1530. I have Leo4allv3 installed right now, can someone tell me what 10.5.3 installation package to use? and what guide? also what kext I should backup? Thanks!

Dell M1530

4GB Ram 667mhz

8600m gt w/ gddr3 256mb

2.4ghz T7700

320gb Hard Drive

Leo4allv3 - 10.5.2 w/ Vanilla Kernel installed.

Used Dell Package 0.3.3 to get sleep to work.

Used AppleHda supplied by DevilHood for sound w/ mute to work

So now I have m1330 with iAtkos 2.0 + 10.5.3 +10.5.4 Delta Update by Mysticus (vanila 9.4)

works:

- wifi

- sound

- battery status

no:

- video (which one Nvinject do I need?)

- keyboard&trackpad (killed during updates, ps2 fix?)

i've already tried, but it says for NvinjectGo is not installed normally and can't be used

I've just upload a new build (0.34b).

Recently i've reorganized kexts on my computer, so i think it was a problem with files permissions. I think it's now fixed.

I've also add mute fix for 9200/92005 and ACPIBattery.

So I guess the one built into the screen is a "no go" for now? Any fix to get that working?

Next up, I am going to attempt to upgrade from 10.5.2 to .3 then .4.... I keep seeing people talking about sata issues on the higher up version, so time to read up I guess. :)

Hehe, now it really works on 10.5.2. Thank you very much

but one more, after update on 10.5.3(same as with clear 10.5.3 on 10.5.4) during loading i get a message to restart pc.

is that macgirl was about?

Keep in mind that on 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 NVinject needs the IOProbeScore, NVkush and Natit have it already, also using GFX String has no problems.

Devilhood,

Can you post the STC9228 TXT file that you used to get the mute file working? The codec file you drag to Taruga's AppleHDA patcher? For some reason directly installing the HDA kext gives me no sound until sleep, but it seems like when I install using the drag and drop into the AppleHDA patcher, it works. Can you make a txt codec for the patcher and post it with working mute?

I am posting this here since this is a huge discussion about Dell notebooks and running iAtkos OSX on them.

These are my notebook specs

M1530

Intel Dual Core 2.0 Ghz

3GB Memory

256MB GeForce 8600M GT

200GB SATA drive

DVD+RW Drive

Purchased 03-25-08

I have downloaded iAtkos v2.0i

I burned the ISO to DVD

Booted my notebook to it

I got com.apple.Boot.Plist not found

After some research I come upon the JMicron IDE DVD ppf patch for iATKOS 2.0i

So I downloaded this file iATKOS_2.0i-Chameleon-1.0.11-JMicron-fix.zip

Applied the patch

Now I see Darwin/x86 boot v5.0.132 - Chameleon v1.0.11

The patch obviously applied

Instead of Plist not found though I am not getting com.apple.Boot.Slist not found

Additionally, sometimes it will say iAtkosv2.0i as the startup volume and sometimes it will say Ethernet PXE Client

I am sure there are people that have gotten OSX to install of their M1530 without issue

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have spent most of the day so far trying to figure this out.

Thanks in advance

For the moment with the actual patched kext "buil in" microphone no go, possibly in future releases of AppleHDA.

Why bother to update to 10.5.3 and then 10.5.4, go directly to 10.5.4 (with combo update of course, but take the same steps as 10.5.2 or .3 updates).

well I guess that would make more sense now wouldn't it. :P I'm going to give it a shot tonight! just got this thing running VMware Fusion hitting my Vista "partition" (not a real bootcamp but fusion thinks it is). Oh boy is it nice...

next up is the upgrade to 10.5.4 tonight then.

Thanks guys / gals

If you had read my earlier post, you'd realise that it is a bug with AppleHDA patcher and has nothing to do with the codec dump from linux.

I also explain how to fix mute :D

Just follow my instructions and you'll be fine.

I have found using the codec dump from this thread here

that audio works at every start up without ever having to sleep on my M1530, I've also added to newly discovered mute fix thanks to devilhood

but, the second headphone jack and mic don't work at all, so yeah if M1530 users are annoyed with having to sleep sometimes to get audio output, this kext will resolve the problem and as is already known HDAEnabler/ALCinject is required to be used in conjunction with this kext. Sometimes I have found headphone output also to be very quiet, this kext always gives me similar headphone volume as that I experience in Vista(much louder!) Other Sigmatel 9228 users feel free to try this out although it has only been tested on the M1530. Thanks. Since installing this kext my sound output has never stopped working! ;)

I use Temperature Monitor (on my Macs and my hacks) try to add more sensors, dock can only display 2 of them).

Also try to reinstall driver extended x86 support.

Only in my new Desktop Hackintosh I cannot see the Processor temp ;)
