citizentony
I've gotten everything working thanks to this compilation. I'm dual boot with Vista, have sound, sleep, pretty graphics, wi-fi, etc. Just like a MacBook only with better graphics I have only one problem. My USB sometimes does not work. It works for my mouse and like. But not for some iPods and flash drives. Anyone else encounter this problem, is it solvable? Any help is truly appreciated. cosio
Just wanted to quote out that in my case Kalyway 10.5.1 installs better than iATKOS 10.5.1 iR2. While I had many boot related problems with the iATKOS, Kalyway installs perfectly with none of them on my XPS M1530. Sadly, integrated nvidia graphics don't work on none of them. I like Klayway better because no custom apple iATKOS logo appears on the system information window. I know it's silly but I prefer the OS being clean from custom graphics. In Kalyway, just select the right EFI bootloader (check your HDD partitioning: is it mbr or guid?) and voila! Leo installs with no sound nor graphics, but runs OK. Anyway I decided to test other alternatives before choosing the final OS package for my lappy, so now I'm burning the Leo4All image and will share my experience when I install it. I hope it works fine, as it's 10.5.2 ready, while the graphics drivers posted in the begining of the thread do not seem to install correctly on my machine after I run the Kalyway 10.5.2 Comboupdate on neither iATKOS nor Kalyway 10.5.1 itself. UPDATE: Just installed Leo4All. Very smooth install with no difficulties with booting whatsoever. Whats more, the installation script automatically sets up the boot options, so no need to search on mbr/guid info here. Another great thing is that you do not need to manually delete the NVDAResman.kext, as this work is done automatically by the installer too. So after restarting you simply boot into gui mode, no need to run the -s option! Nevertheless, there are no supported sound or video with the installation. Oh, by the way Leo4All comes with the "space" (not sure if that's the real name) wallpaper which I didn't find in the other installs, so another point for this lol! Having said that, but still having in mind my microscopical knowledge of os x, as a newbie user I definitely prefer installing Leo4All to Kalyway and Kalyway to iATKOS. So that's my ranking for my M1530 and I hope it helps other users of this wonderful machine to skip the booting nightmares which I had to deal with a couple of days ago (iATKOS R2 install). Now for my problem in 10.5.2, which I hope Leo4All was going to resolve, but it didn't. What worries me is that the video drivers (latest NVidia kexts and NVinject installer, NEW v.41) that worked perfectly in 10.5.1 do not seem to be installing correctly in 10.5.2 environment, this now being confirmed in iATKOS and Kalyway 10.5.1, both updated with the 10.5.2 Comboupdate and in Leo4All which comes 10.5.2 clean. I would really be thankful if somebody gives me a hint on finding and installing manually the graphics drivers for Nvidia 8600M GT. For some reason I kept deleting NVDAResman.kext after installation of v.41, and obiously there was no need to do that. Now graphics work perfectly. Sleep, restart and shut down do not though. macintoshy
Here is a ApplePS2Keyboard.kext that enble the key that is near of the "left shift" is a modification with the diif file from Jape, the "next" of media keys is also working (work on the iTunes) so maybe the remote control also work. I am trying to enable the previous, stop, play/pause media keys. Replace it at /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ Hm, testing around: - ^ instedd of < - ° instead of > - iTunes: Next ok. Back, Stop, Play do not work (we all already know it) My german keyboard layout seems to fit better to the last PS2Controller.kext release. Thanks again. I will switch back. macgirl
@ MacGirl how to i install the sound update, were do i place them? also i installed the NVInstallerV.41.pkg but now i have to boot up with -v Unzip the STAC9228 kext and put the contents on /System/Library/Extensions You can do it easily with kext_helper b7 (it will set the correct permissions and ownership). hi MacGirl, i am running Leo on my Dell vostro 1400, almost flawless, but i have a minor problem , the startup is takin around four minutes, before i can see the finder(starts without sleep display trick but for sound , i have to use that)..secondly..i am gettin a batterylife of under two hours...i am a noob, i really donnow much abt intelspeed step and stuff...adn did not dare to mess with efi's ..j can u tell me anuthing i could do to fix this..i could not open energy saver in preferences Replace /System/Library/PreferencePanes/EnergySaver.prefPane with one of the install DVD, you can extract it with Pacifist. For SpeedStep/better battery life you need 3 things: -speedstep kernel -modified AppleSMBIOS (latest of mac.nub works) -package with powermanagement.bundle, the throttler kext and application (guide linked in the first post) I've gotten everything working thanks to this compilation. I'm dual boot with Vista, have sound, sleep, pretty graphics, wi-fi, etc. Just like a MacBook only with better graphics I have only one problem. My USB sometimes does not work. Try PCGenUSBEHCI.kext, look at Hardware->Other peripherals subforum Just wanted to quote out that in my case Kalyway 10.5.1 installs better than iATKOS 10.5.1 iR2. While I had many boot related problems with the iATKOS, Kalyway installs perfectly with none of them on my XPS M1530. Sadly, integrated nvidia graphics don't work on none of them. Of course none of iATKOS or Kalyway can give you Graphics Acceleration (QE/CI) because they install 10.5.1 kexts, and NVidia 8x00 cards only work with 10.5.2 kext, but you can have VESA graphics, just deleting Nvidia kexts. Hm, testing around: - ^ instedd of - ° instead of > - iTunes: Next ok. Did you try the 2nd appleps2kb kext I attached? Anyway yesterday I attached an USB MS multimedia keyboard, prev, play/pause, next and volume buttons worked ok, so maybe the PS2 to ADB mapping are not working. raphk
First i have to thank macgirl (and everyone else!) for this thread, it's been a tremendous help! I just have a couple questions.. First, macgirl I see you mention that you can boot to either the speedstep OR the vanilla kernel. how are you doing this? I want to try to the speedstep kernel but I'd like to have the option of going back to the vanilla incase the speedstep kernel panics or bricks my install. Secondly, from reading this thread it seems you can have either sleep OR speedstep, but not both. is this true? if so are there major differences in battery life when not using the speedstep kernel? I have an M1330 w/ a 9 cell battery. I'm tripple booting ubuntu / XP / osx 10.5.2 with grub currently, if that helps.

Yes, my last test was done when I downloaded the 2nd PS2Controller.kext Nice Idea to test another keyboard. I will test it with a Logitech Elite keyboard and multimdedia keys that might work, because there are drivers availble. My testing before was based to the onboard Vostro keyboard. I keep various kernels, only with different names: mach_kernel mach_kernel.sleep mach_kernel.speedstep mach_kernel.9.1 mach_kernel.9.2 All coexist because they have different names. In the comm.apple.Boot.plist the default kernel is "mach_kernel" but you could edit and put anything you want. If I want to boot with another kernel I just write its name at boot options, something like this: mach_kernel.speedstep -s -x cpus=1 then only restriction is that you have to write the name of the kernel first than other options you can't get both SpeedSetp and Sleep because the Sleep kernel prevents something at wake, netkas already said that, I tested on my M1330 and the result was a black screen after wake. I didn't test the battery life with both kernels, maybe other users can give us their experiences. macgirl
just root "/", I never tested on other directory, and I think I read somewhere if you put in other location it wont work. cpus=n is to set the number of Porcessors or Cores, some previous versions of laptops need that because they have stuttering when bothe cores are enabled, like the Inspiron 6400 or 9400 Even the XPS M1x30 need this with Mac OS 10.4.

jessieqwert
Encouraged by the number of success stories and hope to add to them soon. I successfully installed Kalyway 10.5.1 on my 1530 with vanilla kernel, nvidia (laptop) driver. However, when I went to boot it the load screen with the apple and abstract clock spinner freezes after a few revolutions and never makes it to the desktop. I've searched but can't even find what kind of problem this is indicative of. Any ideas? Here is the screen I'm stuck on. In order to boot I have to use the boot to cd trick to start OSX and not get B0 error. When I remove the cd and press f8 I'm never given the option to start with -v. Ideas? Thanks! macgirl
F8 is just one time, if you are booting from the instalation DVD and using the rd=diskxsy option you can get another change to write kernel options, but you can boot from the DVD and put the -v option together with the "rd" option. Follow the manual installation of bootloader guide, is linked several times on the thread and first post.
Micman
Hi all, First post, first stupid question ;-) I am a total noob at OS X. Anyway I managed to install Iatkos R2 on my XPS M1530. However I do not manage to get my wireless nor my ethernet working. I do have a Intel® Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-PCI Card. As i've read through the 37 pages now here , it should be possible to get it work. Can anyone help me ? BTW, if you need anything from DELL. I work there ;-) Thanks a lot in advance. Cheers Micman I
macgirl
That is no "stupid question", a stupid question is the one you never asked. The Intel Wireless driver is in development, so for now there is no option for that card, but there iw a better option, and for you that work at Dell is easy, get a Dell True Mobile Wireless card 1390, 1490 or 1505, they work "out of the box" as an Airpot card. gumblecosby
I can't get 2 finger scrolling working on vostro 1400. Has anyone else with this laptop. I have attached an Appleps2trackpad.kext file that will allow tap to left click functionality to your touchpad for anyone who does not have it. it goes in the plugins folder appleps2controller.kext (just use kext kelper to install). PS. For audio to work everythime I have to sleep the computer (and not just the display) but, when i do this i lose the ability to tap click ApplePS2Trackpad.kext.zip
macgirl
There are "better" guides for installing, since this isn't covering the basic installation I sugest you the iATKOS or the Kalyway Installation guides. But if your Dell has an AMD processor you better go with Zephyroth (AMD) or Leo4All (AMD and Intel). This guide could help you, on desktop PCs are easier to install because they don't use battery settings and the Internal Display of laptops sometimes are {censored}. Tell us which are your specs and we tell you what guides are better for your RIG.
