I made a little experiment for adding fan and temp to the istat menus. Here is a kext which should replace fakesmc.kext.

Should work on most dell laptops. If you like it, thats nice.

SoftSMC.kext.zip SoftSMC.kext.leo.zip

Have the following after installing:

Temperature Sensors:

Ambient

Ambient 2

Enclosure

Enclosure 2

Fans:

Dell-18K

What are the temp sensors representative of? Also the fan speed doesn't change from 3080rpm at all.

Thanks,

Brett

There is lack of documentation of the temp sensors on dell computers. So exactly where they are is not clear. I guess two are from the CPU. Do you know if you have one or two fans?

Thanks. I'm assuming one is the GPU temperature sensor as well.

Only one fan that I know of in my 1530. I only saw one when the mainboard was replaced. Even driving the temp up to the mid to high 50˚C range for 10 mins didn't move the fan RPM at all.

I assumed the top one is for Snow, and it works. iStat only seems to update every few seconds though. Just realised this is a setting in iStat.

However, the values seem realistic, and far more stable than CoolBook. It also shows disk temperature which is great. Fan speed shows correctly.

Also, I had some strange error messages from fakesmc in my boot log that are now gone. So awesome, thanks. :D

Ok, could be that it is not reported from the xps m1530, I can try to add fan id 1 also maybe it works.

I made a two fan version, intended for dell laptops with two fans.

SoftSMC.kext.twofan.zip

Thank you Sir

Some feed back report

I have 2 fans on XPS M1330

Dell-18k1 and Dell-18k2

K2 always runs @ about 922rpm

K1 rests at 0rpm most of the time, but kicks in to 3200rpm when either ambient temp or enclosure temp exceed 50C.

BTW temp report is more accurate than fakesmc ( 70C plus )

Can you make the "ambient" label becomes CPU A, B?

I will make some better naming for the temp and fans, I just need to determine and identify better the devices from the SMM. And I doubt you have two fans on your M1330, I have only one.

Hum maybe the fan#2 which always run at 922rpm is the ghostly one. Will try the one-fan version. Thanks and best wishes.

Anyone got the External Monitor (VGA) working on the M1530/8600M GT with Snow Leopard?, i just cant get it working! ;).

I love answering myself, for those having issues, you can use the NVCaps from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p=1242766, replace them in your DSDT :D (or copy the whole AGP to yours in case you dont have the 8600M YET working).

Props to Chrysaor of course, :D.

@Superhai: So far, on my 1530, it seems that Ambient and Enclosure Base represents the CPU, since they're closer to what Windows report as idle, and the closer between each other (representing the 2 cores which are usually the same temp), using a T5450. Enclosure 2 could be a candidate 2, Ambient 2 seems way too high here to be any Core.

Use the latest chameleon bootloader. Graphic drivers included with HDMI and VGA !!!

I have a sleep problem on my M1530..

I've copied Superhai's VoodooUSBEHCI.kext to /S/L/E/ via Kexthelper

Then I edited a kext, as exactly as in his readme.

Repaired permissons, reboot with -f

Didn't work.

M1530, 10.5.8 (iPC), Vanilla...

I think the problem is my AppleACPIPlatform.kext

Can somebody upload his working ACPIPlatform for 10.5.8, or knows another solution?

Many thanks

Hi there, I'm a bit of a newb on this but I'm trying to install SL on my 1330. I'm using Superhai's Dell CD v0.5. When booting that CD I get a few EBIOS Read Error's (3 of them, with some hex values) befor the GUI pops up.

When I remove the CD, insert the SL install DVD and press F5 nothing shows up. It gives a load of EBIOS Read Error's again before returning to the start GUI. What could be the cause here?

Hi.. First Post. I've been reading this and other forums for days. I've searched, I've downloaded, and downloaded, but for the life of me I cannot get any version to install on my 1330. I apologize if there is a thread that addresses this, but i've read, and read, and searched, and searched, and didn't find one. Though I admit I could be over looking it, I do have probably over 30 tabs open between 5 windows right now.

I've tried iAtkos v1, v5, and v7. I've read that v4 works well but have been unable to download it. I've tried iPC 10.5.6, Leo4All 10.5.2, Kalyway 10.5.2, iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6 and iDeneb v1.6 10.5.8 Lite. None of these will install.

iAtkos v1 comes closest. The installer will load, I do the necessary work in disk utility, it verifies the disc and starts to install, but not long after it fails with the error "the installer could not validate the contents of the 10.5.1 intel package" I've tried searching for solutions to this error to no avail. I tried installing darwin beforehand, I've tried not installing it before.

iAtkos 5, Kalyway & Leo4All don't even finish loading, they all give me the same message of "Extention "com.apple.driver.apci_smc_platformplugin" has immediate dependencies and bot com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use one style"

I've googled these errors and tried all the solutions I was able to find- often trying a different version, all with no success.

iAtkos 7, iPC, and both iDeneb versions all just stop without any error given just after the "Mac framework enabled" line. Enabling the Dual Core will result in a kernel panic for at least 1 of these, I've tried so many versions at this point I can't keep them straight.

From the best I could gather, I have my bios settings correct. I've disabled the multi-core and all the other cpu enhancements, but I've also tried with them enabled as well. My drive is set to AHCI.

I know from reading all these posts that it's very possible to install OS-X to the 1330. The majority of the posts I've found deal with resolving post-installation issues, I can't seem to find one that addresses the problems I'm having getting it installed in the first place.

Any help, suggestions, nudges in the right direction would be appreciated.

Like you, I, and most likely "we", have spent hours researching this forum for clues, and still find ourselves clueless. Many post are out of date, and so convuloted. But welcome to the club!

1. You need to learn how to make a dsdt.aml first. Consult the this thread by immo

2. You need to tell folks here your computer's configuration, then some one can help you with the right, and specific question. Mainly, you need thr right set of kext's. Search under superhai's name for his boot CD. ( I forgot the link )

3. M1330 can run Snow Leopard fairly well with the right dsdt and right kext. In my cade I am extremely satisfied with my old M1330.

4. Good luck

Literally the moment I add VoodooHDA 2.5.2 to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on my M1530 using Kext Helper, I get a kernel panic. If I put it in Extra, in panics at boot.

Am I missing something? Do I need to do some custom config to the VoodooHDA kext before I install it?

Got 10.6.2 up and running on my M1530, sound/graphics/sleep/restart/mic/ethernet all working perfectly.

Only issues that remain to be fixed:

USB Drive wakeup on sleep

Poor Webcam Performance (Hardware Limitation, not OS X's fault)

Expect a guide either Saturday or Sunday of the week after next, if people could email me the proper DSDT's for the following processors w. Nvidia 8600m Graphics I can include them in the ZIP.

Proccessor List (M1530)

T8100

T8300

T9300

T9500

Hi there! Could you also include the proper DSDT for the x9000 processor? I haven an m1530 with nVidia 8600m too ;)

If you do, that would be great!!

Thanks in advance for your help!! :)

Not sure why you guys wouldn't use Brett Whinnen's DSDT found here which works on any CPU. There is really no benefit to the CPU specific ones unless you want to customize your P-states. Just follow the instructions on installing it carefully. There's also a DSDT there for any CPU for M1330's with NVidia graphics.

I get about 3.5-4 hrs on a 9 cell with SL. Of course, I keep my display brightness really low as I like it that ways. P-states work in snow. You need the right DSDT and Vanilla speedstep works. Have a look at immo's guide on custom DSDT. Try using my version of the T8300 DSDT and remove any NullCPU or Disabler kexts and any VoodooPower you might have.

talisman

Does your C and P state script in your DSDT for the T8300 work on your T9300 Processor?

I have the T9500 2.6GHZ. Is there a DSDT which has all the fixes and the C and P state script that is working for the T9500?

Thanks

Yes that's normal I had the same issue. You have to do something but don't remember what ...

It's a conflict between VoodaHDA and a default kext(AppleHDA I think).

I'm having some trouble with a MBR installation on a m1330. I am using Superhai's boot cd to boot a usb drive with a vanilla SL image on it. With no modifications I am able to boot up the install but cannot install SL because the partition I am installing on is MBR. I have tried

I’ve zipped up the required patched materials here (I believe its made by Kabyl , modbin and the crew of ToH). Download it and place OSInstall.mpkg in /Volumes/OSX86/System/Installation/Packages (Alternatively go to Next go to your USB stick (“OSX86″)or simply to make your its your System/Installation/Packages folder which is located in your USB stick). Not quite there yet – rocket pants. We’ll still have to patch another file. If you’ve done retail installation before (that is with Leopard) , you’ll just have to patch this. However with Snow Leopard , apple has included another check. Now , copy OSInstall to /Volumes/OSX86/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/ ) .

However after making those changes the usb boot never gets past the initial screen (i have waited about 20 minutes before giving up). Can anybody who did a successful MBR install detail their steps please?
