~pcwiz
I was looking for ways to make Win XP look like Vista and came across Vista Transformation Pack 8.0.1: http://www.windowsxlive.net/?p=1473 My question is: is this safe to use? It replaces a bunch of windows system files ad I'm just worried that if I apply some sort of windows update (like a service pack), it will screw stuff up. Morpheus Phreak
WindowsX has been putting this thing together for years. I know back when I used it it had quite a few issues for some people. My recommendation would be to read the forums and see what issues crop up and how he deals with them these days. kookitan
at most the 3rd party apps which come with it ( sidebar etc...) MIGHT slow ur comp down a lil bit. apart from that i think its really good. no probs at all. SLV
Better don't install this soft. It's not real Vista look and everything you see on the screenshot is WindowBlinds skin. And Vista Transformation pack can't be completely uninstalled if some bugs will appear, the only way will be reinstalling windows and the worth thing is that even repairing windows by booting from CD doedn't remove this pack. Of course I'm talking about ver 6.0 but people say this version isn't better. Lactobacillus P
Actually tried it on a Arconis backed up system: - it does succeed in giving you an experience similar to Vista, it does slow down your system because of all the extra stuff that is running. On duo core machines the slow down is to be neglected, on single core or pentiumM systems there is very noticable slow down. - not all Vista graphics are exactly alike and with all features turned on there still is a noticeable difference as the effect is brought about by a plethora of patches and extra applications. - quite a few XP resources are replaced and upgrading to a new Service Pack (SP3) will cause problems It works it looks nice, but it's a situation that is not stable with regard to the continuous updates and upcoming service pack. If you do not upgrade/update nothing's lost and you could try it. De-installing worked without hickups. fatshitcat
I wouldn't do it if I were you. Thist thing dives deep in your xp files and it doesn't seem safe. ~pcwiz
I've decided not to install it. If it causes this much trouble the skin isn't worth it. Is WindowBlinds safe to use? ~pcwiz
OK, I suppose I'll use that then! What is the best Vista theme for WindowBlinds? And does it make your computer slow? No system slowdown at all. Just make sure your iTunes toolbar isn't enabled, because it causes problems. Wincustomize is the best place to get WindowBlinds skins. ~pcwiz
Well, I got WindowBlinds and I DLed the jemaho skin but in the jemaho install instructions, it says that you have to apply an "LSPPatch" before installing the skin. It says its safe but is it really? It modifies explorer.exe and it says "only tested with Win XP SP2, if you have something else don't blame me when explorer.exe gets messed up" or something like that. So from that I think that theres the same problem as with the Vista Transformation Pack, it modifies Windows. Any thoughts? ~pcwiz
Vista costs too much, and why pay for a clunky OS when all you want is the UI? Edit: I think I found a safe Vista skin for WindowBlinds but it says its for WindowBlinds 5. Will it work with WindowBlinds 6? Just to tell you, the LSPPatch.exe just deletes the "Shut Down" and "Log Off" text from the Start menu shell... very very very safe. Purple Puppy
If you want to truly transform XP into a Vista look and feel, then I recommend VystalVivid: http://www.vystal.de.vu/. It emulates Windows Aero to the extent that the glass even blurs what's behind it. Dermatea
To get the look and feel of Vista I use BricoPack Vista Inspirat Ultimate 2. SpeedfreaK
i used the windowsblinds themes and the transformation pack. the themes look nicer (glass effect and "realer" aero), but it slows your pc down. the transformation pack (if you don't install the secundary programs like the gadgets stuff) doesn't slow your pc down at all because it replaces the original xp pictures with vista like pictures in your windows. it also doesn't need to load something on start up it's your decision Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/81055-is-vista-transformation-pack-801-safe-to-use/#findComment-576716 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
Paying for Windows.. lol... It's called bittorrent..
