Hi Mariusz,

What device did you plug into the firewire port? Brand name or information on that device? Do you have other devices using the firewire port to test?

Chun-Nan

I'll check exact device name later when I'm at work, but this is similiar to this one XtraStor.

Unfortunately this only one device FW I have.

Regards,

Mariusz.

Hi snam11,

Did you put any device on both "standard and express" pccard? Is the smartcard reader built-in?

Where/when did you get that kernel panic? with rev7 or other revision?

Chun-Nan

hi Chun-Nan,

i didn't tested yet simultaneously pcmcia slots (normal and express). i've tested once per time, but i can do it if you need to test.

i have only a multicard reader as express card, and of course some pcmcia card (firewire, wifi, multicardreader)

i don't think i can't do a complete test if you want me to check the full speed of both pcmcia slot, but if you want only to check if both works at same time, piece of cake.

the smarcard reader (is used in windows like the fingerprint reader, without the proper smartcard plugged in, the pc will lock, won't do a thing)is built in, and i have no chance to disable it (also in bios).

so the "full" o2micro controller has 2 pcmcia slot, 1 smartcard reader, 1 firewire.

the kp is present since the beginning, but i thought you was busy focusing the job on pcmcia slots. If you can have a look also to this prob i'd appreciate it.

this nic (intel pro 100pm 82573e vendor 8086 id 108c) should be one of the most compatible chipset, but seems not.

The appleintel8254xethernet.kext (is located into ionetworkingfamily)generates kp related to ipcifamily. I dunno yet if this kext is ppc or macintel native (there is no such open source for it).

regards.

snam11,

If the kext loads, it's intel.

Kexts only work on the arch they're compiled for - so it's intel or ppc. Only one type is installed.

Have you tried manually editing the stock kext for it from a clean install?

Do you get the KP even with stock IOPCIFamily & IOPCCardFamily ?

hi equate,

the main problem with that kext is: there is no such usefull parameter to edit.i've done a compare with working and non working plist, same parameters.

the kext worked fine with stock tiger 10.4.1-3. kp from .5 to latest leopard

if i try to use old working kext with newest iopci and ionetwork i get a superclass error on loading.

Hrm.. Sounds like it's shockingly like the brcm57xx kext stuff then.. Dirty hack. Probably a binary hack?

Does leopard have a version of that kext normally? (w/o replacing all the network kexts)

hi equate,

the only kext that works with that kind of nic is the appleintel8254xethernet kext inside ionetworkingfamily.

leo and tiger have same kext, kp on both.

afaik there is a 3rd party driver (smalltree communications), it loads fine but doesn't work for me..... probably needs tweaking or hack

and with rev7 i get kp also with that driver, so i'm stucked

So the driver is a stock one from Apple? You're using it w/o any modifications, but still see kernel panics?

yes... plain kext in earliest version of osx works out of the box... kp with newest

kp also with smalltree alternative drivers kp using rev7

i did some test booting in standard mode:

the alf error is still present.

intenal firewire (FireWire (OHCI) VendorID 1217) has still the firewire capture problem, and the no image shown problem, ,this time if i plug a firewire hdd it works at 400 as max speed.

pcmcia firewire 800 card (FireWire (OHCI) TI ID 8025)works fine with dv cam capture, but the hdd max speed is locked at 400 (instead of 800).

some improvements, but this "share" problem, and dv capture is not solved yet.

Hi Chun-Nan,

I've tried test10 but without success.

The situation looks like this:

when I boot system, System Profiler says "cannot list firewire devices". Then I have to insert or remove PCMCIA, relaunch SystemProfiler so I can see "Unknown Device" under FireWire tab .... strange.

Here is dmesg from test10 +rev7:

@OP thanks for this. It works perfectly now, but I had to do a couple extra (odd) steps.

My laptop is a NC6000 on Kalyway 10.5.1 SSE2

After the first boot it contiunously cycled in the GUI boot.

Restarted with -f -v. Got stuck on a crash log but no kernel panic. I waited about 20 minutes, and didn't do anything.

Restarted my computer again and pulled out the PCMCIA wireless card.

Now the boot got stuck on a ethernet error. (Again no kernel panic).

Restarted the computer, and before boot I unplugged the network cable (so now both the network cable and PCMCIA Linksys wireless card are out). Used the trigger -f -v.

This booted into the OS perfectly.

Inserted my ethernet cable and IP detected perfectly.

Inserted the Linksys card and right away the Airport logo appeared.

Problem with the wireless card (and fix)

I have a WEP encryption code on my wireless router.

When I went to connct to it, it would immedietly say connection failed.

Repair your permissions again (with the card in).

Pull out the card from you laptop.

Plug it back it, it will automatically connect you into your wireless network.

Great fix, works awesome! Thanks again OP!

Here is the test11 IOPCIFamily. Use this one with IOPCCardFamily on rev7.

First:

Please boot with "-s" to enter single user mode. Let me know the dmesg result.

Second:

After that, please boot with standard mode. Check if both firewire and pccard function correctly.

Don't forget to backup your original file before trying it. Thanks a lot.

Hi Chun-Nan,

I've just tried rev7+test11 but it hangs during boot (see attached screen).

I've noticed that my DVD drive connected to FW starts to spin the inserted disc when it boots, so looks like FW port recognized attached FW device. It is something new.

Regards,

Mariusz.

with rev11 i can't boot with -s, no matter if any pcmcia is plugged into the slot, the system hangs after the pcmcia messages

i've attached the pic.

booting with standard mode, the internal firewire is detected but has same probs of earliest releases.

alf error is still present.

pcmcia slot doesn't work anymore. smartcard slot is not detected, only the pcmcia.but no matter which device is plugged in, it doesn't work.

i cannot dump the dmesg because log is too long so dmesg buffer doesn't show pcmcia infos.

Hi guys,

I just tested rev7 kext file to see if rev7 IOPCIFamily.kext file can properly detect my PCI-express bus. I don't have prove but I believe if my PCI-express bus properly detected/supported, my internal wireless (also my ethernet card) should be detected & working. My internal wireless device id & vendor id already listed in AirPortAtheros.kext file. But I always get "loaded unsuccessfully" error in dmesg.

However, this is not the reason why I post. I just want to ask what this message mean:-

ALF ALERT: sockwall_cntl_updaterules ctl_enqueuedata rts err 55

It look like firewall log. I attached here my full dmesg after using rev7 kexts file.

Thank you. :)

Mariusz, snam11,

Interesting that you both see essentially the same hang..

snam11: One thing you could try - look in /var/log/system.log - you may find the info there.

More interesting is that I tried this one before it was released here, and it worked fine for me - in fact I'm using it now..

I've attached my dmesg output for reference, but Chun-Nan already has it.

Hi Kizwan,

I don't know what caused "ALF ALERT" to happen yet. It didn't show up on my machine.

I tried to google it and found the link: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1269756

That is what I have so far.

If possible, you can try test12 to see if it still shows up. Thanks.
